Mae West, Hollywood sex star from the 30’s, helps me be a Rad-woman. She quipped, “I believe in censorship—I made a fortune out of it.” See her documentary on Amazon, Dirty Blonde. Mae radiates confidence, and here’s a video of me doing a few of her one-liners…
Mae was a pattern breaker—she broke the Patriarchy mold…
Boys—get to know and reason Girls—get to feel and emote
Boys—get angry Girls—get to be good
Boys—are tough and violent Girls—are silent, submissive, obedient…and so on.
Mae knew good lovers aren’t ‘1/2 people;’ and she took on the man part of her as well as the female. She liked men who were caring, vulnerable, and not know-it-alls. And women, heck, there’s no relationship if a woman can’t trust and express herself..
Our greatest strength is our capacity for relationship; it’s integral to human survival. Relationships built on mutuality are the cornerstone of intimacy. And right below the surface of contrived Patriarchy, each of us possess the strong, preserving seeds of total selfhood! It’s our natural condition, the real self. The human condition of longs for completion. No more Pat-men and Pat-women.
So…Women, take a hit of Mae West, find your voice! Speak it in the boardroom and the bedroom. You are not too self-centered, angry, or aggressive. Men, express your vulnerability, your tender compassion and desire for love and connection. You are not too weak, passive, or dependent.
Ask a women what she thinks, and then ask her again, “What do you really think?” It’s right below the surface for one who is ready to radically listen. Ask a man what he wants—ask again what he wants in the deep down part of his being—and give him space to report his findings.
Let’s be Rad-men and Rad-women!
