Realistic robot is just normal sf show with a lot of theories, background information, how is the mechanics work. Super robot is in the opposite way. They just minimize all of the details and the main theme is mostly passion and love. The louder you shout, the higher power you get.

The things he tries absolutely shouldn't work, like the combining, but because it's just that kind of show, it actually works. (There is an actual explanation for why it works, which I won't spoil, but Kamina had no way of knowing - he just believed it would). Or, to put it in Kamina's words: Kick reason to the kerb and make the impossible possible!

Oh yeah you watched 86, so this is technically your second mecha since to my understanding 86 is a mecha or at least mecha adjacent Kamina is the realest So you were saying author but since its an anime original the one who made most of those creative decisions was the Director, Imaishi Hiroyuki and he is the GOAT. Besides Gurren Lagan, other anime he has directed include Cyberpunk Edge-runners, Kill La Kill, Panty and Stocking, and the movie Promare THAT IS THE TRUE MEANING OF GURREN LAGAN! If you think this is peak you aint seen nothing yet, it only gets better Kamina did not know that it would work, man just does things with his full chest and believes it will work. How it worked will make more sense later when you understand how the Lagan is actually powered So combining is very common in Super Robot Mecha, which this is, Gurren Lagan does aura farming like like no other
