Definitely agree with what you said about the secondary characters, a big part of the appeal of the MCU is how it continually adds to and fleshes out its cast of heroes, rather than focusing just on the big names.
Also, as Rithesh mentioned, the next things chronologically would be the first two Marvel One-Shots - "The Consultant" and "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer". They're only about 4 minutes each so should be a pretty quick watch, and both take place between Iron Man 2 and Thor. Though, "The Consultant" mostly ties in to Incredible Hulk and specifically the post-credits scene from that movie, so might not make much sense sans that context. Then again, I guess it might serve as kind of a substitute for watching the Incredible Hulk movie.

First of all thanks for all this info I love it! Secondly, you're telling that Psylocke is actually in a LIVE ACTION movie??! I thought she was only in comics. I really gotta see what she looks like cuz she's so hot in Marvel rivals.
Also that kid being Peter Parker is so wholesome! I wonder if they'll bring that reference back in a Spiderman movie or avengers like if Peter meets ironman and is like wait a minute I remember u 😂 (don't answer this cuz I'll keep an eye out for that detail so no spoilers)
Lastly, are the one shots also live action or are they animated?

This movie feels slow because it's mostly setting up the characters for the Avengers and the rest of the MCU.
The Kid with the Iron Man helmet is Peter Parker(Spider-Man).
Rhodey didn't technically stole that suit since Tony wanted him to take it and let him because he was dying.
Nick Fury is the director of SHIELD, Black Widow is a SHIELD agent and Howard Stark is the Founder of SHIELD along with Peggy Carter.
During the ending scene with Nick Fury and Tony, you can see news reports on screen that show the scenes from "The Incredible Hulk", Fury also mentions that he has to deal with a bigger problem during the donut scene referring to Hulk.
The Hammer Industries scenes were shot in Elon Musk's SpaceX hangar.
The news reporter girl at the beginning plays Psylocke in "X-Men: Apocalypse" and the girl who gave Tony the Senate letter Plays Invincible Women in "Fantastic Four (2015)".
You also need to watch "Marvel One-Shot", which are 5-10 min clips that take place in between movies that give context to what some of the characters are doing during that time.
