2024-11-05 12:28:31 +0000 UTCUgh I will have to finish the depression after work, but to talk about it a bit in detail as the show never outright explains it, now that you are past the shower scene where you get the only real explanation. Anju is part Alba. Due to being mixed race she was sent to the internment camps with her mother. Due to her hair color being so close to the Alba she was abused by the other 86. At some point they carved "Whore's Daughter" into her back. She grew her hair out to cover the scars. It's why in the scene where the girls were all at the lake she kept her jacket on, and why she usually showered alone. She didn't even let the other girls see her scars. Daiya knew about the scars but instead complimented her hair. RIP Daiya.
