Should I Read Fate Visual Novels? (REACTION)

This was very fun to check out since it was very different from my usual anime reactions. I hope you guys enjoy this style of content and I can't wait to hear your thoughts!!!

Should I Read Fate Visual Novels? (REACTION)

Comments

I think VN people are more mad that how anime watchers interpret the characters rather than the adaption itself. The big difference between VN shirou and anime shirou is the main cause of this. Anime shirou gets a lot of disrespect all the way back to the 2006 adaption and the UBW one didnt help that much. I know it can be hard to translate VN into anime but watching shirou get done dirty is frustrating when we think hes one of the most well written MCs in anime/manga/VN/LN.

Oh yeah, this type of video is definitely really fun. It's great to see your personal reflections and thoughts on the medium!! If people can stand a 60-hour VN with a massive amount of monologues, 1 hour of talking to yourself is nothing, if not encouraged.

To answer your question, everytime they redo a scene in anime, it gets revoiced. So when you start the 06 DEEN anime or perhaps the VN itself, it will sound kinda different from the Ufotable works. It was also fun for me personally to look at and compare how the voice actors' interpretation and acting changed throughout these 18 years as they learned more about their characters themselves. I haven't cried reading the VNs simply because I rarely rarely cry in general. But the Saber route and OG Tsukihime Arc's route as well as Akiha's route left me so destroyed and heartbroken to the point I couldn't read or watch anything else for weeks or even months. It hit me like a truck. Till this day, some of the OSTs still give chills (This includes OSTs from VNs as well as other games and FGO) because of how much weight these pieces of music carry.

Could be recency bias but the story of Remnant felt like a love letter to the OG Visual Novel while still beings completely its own thing, and Iori is now my second favorite Type Moon Protagonist Oh no, not the PC Crash, that sucks, I hope your able to figure it out,

Jarm957

Oh wow that's actually a very impressive story. Makes me even more excited to see where this anime goes

CrypticBoss

We will be getting to that dragon very soon LMAO

Thanks for this comment and Cryptic nerd arc would go crazy 🤣 For Joker, I definitely still would just check it out but it would be online whenever it releases. Also Fate/Remnant being your #1 is not what I expected at all!!! It's so sad that my pc crashed when I tried recording it again but I haven't given up on it yet

Thanks for taking your time to answer all these questions and they were super helpful! After watching this video, I've been considering the VN way more than I ever have before :)

Some thoughts and answers to your questions 1- The Visual Novel isn’t one where you choose ur own route based on decisions like other VN’s, you start with the prologue as soon as you boot up the game which starts with “Are you my master.” 2- The prologue is the same for all three routes which is why you only have to play through it once at the start of the VN, it’s all covered in episode 0 of the UBW Ufotable anime so if you do decide to read the VN I would recommend skipping it if you don’t want to practically experience it again since it’s almost 1 to 1 with the anime(the ost in the VN are much better tho, you’ll hear it immediately) 3- The choices you make in the VN are mainly between the correct path and shirou dying, so basically if you choose the wrong one shirou dies and you get to the Tiger Dojo(you’ve seen examples of this in Carnival Phantasm, its comedic advice with Taiga and Illya.) Don’t worry these are short with exception of a few of the cool scenes like Sparks Liner High which is the video of Shirou 1v1’ing Saber Alter in Heavens Feel. 4- There is another effect the choices you make have which is the ending, the Fate route only has one ending so you don’t have to worry about that one, UBW’s other ending is adapted in the Ufotable UBW OVA sunny day, these other endings in my opinion aren’t as good as the true endings but they are worth getting. Heavens Feel and UBW anime’s adapted the true endings, but in addition to Sparks Liner High, Heavens Feel has a third ending as well which is a bit more sad. 5- In response to ur question, the times I’ve shed tears were mainly in the fate route VN a couple of times, as well as one time in UBW during archers farewell , the music in the VN makes the emotions x 1000000. The non FSN VN times was when reading through FGO when Mash died, The Nursery Rhyme episodes of Last Encore(surprised you soldiered through that one). 5- Ultimately the VN really is just more of what you love, for example, the Kirei fight in the movie was great but it was only 4ish minutes, in the VN the fight is around 25-40 minutes depending on ur reading speed and has emotional Naruto esque flashbacks and OST showing Shirou’s mind deteriorating with each passing second and what he’s fighting for, all the while Kirei beats Shirou so badly the emiya theme stops playing and then that flashback plays. There are many moments like this as the VN is 60 +hours(depending on speed) compared to all the stay night anime combined run time of around 23ish hours . 6- Although I think the VN is better overall, there are definitely moments the anime does better , some of the fights obviously but one that sticks out is the last stardust scene when aimer is singing during the archer shirou fight and including Casters backstory from Hollow Ataraxia into the anime. If you’d like to see some of the UBW/Heavens Feel VN clips I can definitely link some as well as the lancer fishing scenes from Hollow Ataraxia. I also might be able to find the mini games from hollow ataraxia as there own game ripped from the VN so you can play them yourself(and select Lancer since he’s ur favorite), you’ve seen them in that carnival phantasm special episode with illyas castle and the others. 7- know the VN may seem like a long time, but splitting it into a hour or two per time you read it really helps with fatigue of reading is what I’ve seen many who’ve done it do, I don’t think anyone really expects long 4-7 hour marathon streams every day. 8- Lastly to answer ur final question, obviously from this thread I’d definitely like to see a playthrough of the VN, it’s your Chanel where you’ve been going through fate, so I’d enjoy a VN playthrough with your thoughts and commentary through-ought, since they’re unique to this Chanel. Don’t think I’d catch it live tho if you do tho cause time zones

Fate Spin Off's Ranking of the ones on screen 1)Fate/Samurai Remnant 2)Fate/Extra 3)Fate/Zero 4)Prisma Illya 5)Fate/Apocrypha 6)Case Files of Lord El Melloi 7)Carnival Phantasm 8)Fate Unlimited code The rest I have either not played/read or am in the middle of working through Fate/Unlimited Codes is a fighting game for the PS2 and PSP Fate:Lost Einherjar is a novel series set in the Apocrypha timeline, only one novel out so its not complete and the first novel only just got a fan-translated a month or two ago, still need to read it personally Prillya vs the VN is a hard one, like the VN is still my favorite thing in Fate but its also a big ask, and Prillya while peak got its own issue too so I am pretty split down the middle for which I would rather you see react to. Honestly whatever you would enjoy more, like if your checked out or miserable while reacting then it wont be fun or enjoyable. Saw Joker 2, its not as good as one but I dont think its as bad as people are maing it out to be, I gave the first one a 9/10 and I'd give Joker 2 a 6.5/10 slightly above average. THE CGI DRAGON NOOOO!!! (It is from Fate 06) Cryptic Nerd Arc So its a mix of both, you cant read UBW without reading Fate first it wont let you, but once you clear Fate a new choice appears that lets you switch to the UBW route, same goes for Heavens Feel. There also 50 Bad ends that you can get across the routes depending on your choices. Shounen and Shojo aren't genres they are demographics so Shounen are manga and anime aimed at boys and Shojo are ones aimed at girls. Because of the targets Shounen tend to have more action while shojo focus more on interpersonal relations and emotions. Examples of popular Shojo, Fruits Basket, Sailor Moon, and Ouran High School Host Club I totally cried reading the VN, each of the endings made me cry, For Stay Night all the dialogue is voiced but internal monologue is not. They do re-record lines for the anime cause its a different script, its not 100% 1:1 Adaptions are so important, despite my criticisms with hindsight if the 2006 Stay Night did not exist I would never have gotten into Fate. This was a great video, love this type of content Yeah reading VN's out loud is tough on the voice can attest to that

Jarm957

48:00 that scene plays out very differently in the VN https://youtu.be/qwtvrVxPwr8?si=zPh2wVEHXDnHbu_k

42:45 not fate related but this ties in to Dan da dan. the guy who writes that manga kept getting his battle shounen pitches turned down. eventually his editor told him to read 1000 shoujo manga so he could learn about character driven writing (and emotions lol). afterwards he came up with dan da dan and the rest is history

29:23 yeah you’re not a real fate fan till you see the dragon

Gooooooo. LETS GOOOO
