In Fate/Extra, the HGW works in a tournament like format, with each Master being paired against another Master every week. The 2 Masters have 6 days to train in the Moon Cell Dungeons and to collect information about their opponent. On the 7th day, they are brought to a closed arena where the 2 fight each other until one of the Servants is defeated. The Master/Servant pair defeated is deleated forever while the survivor go to fight for another week. This continues until the 128 Masters are withered down to only a single Master.
