2024-08-27 10:15:56 +0000 UTCAlright one last post on this: in all fairness to miyazuki (bazett with glasses and ponytails) it is basically confirmed that she had no influence on the death of Yuuko (waver velvet in a dress). Yuuko’s last words to her “best friend” (like how two women who live together in a 1br apartment are “just roommates”) were declining miyazuki’s suicide pact and talking about the beauty of living. doesn’t sound suicidal to me! and of course, Yuuko died as one of the eight women who “committed suicide” in movie 1. those deaths were induced by kirie fujou (the ghost woman shiki fought) using her psychic powers / magecraft. Fujino Asagami (Sakura matou with a walking stick) also hints at this when she says Yuuko may have killed herself or it could’ve been “something else”. in other words Yuuko was a murder victim with a tragic life story. As for Fujino’s blindness, it is true that she can’t see anything with her eyes. For example she shows up for a split second in movie 6 where Azaka is helping Fujino as she struggles at the top of a staircase at their school. But because of Fujino’s psychic abilities, she can perceive the world as though she was looking down from 50k feet in the sky like she was God. They hint at this in the script when miyazuki says he hates Fujino’s “higher-than-thou” look on her face. Well yeah she’s looking down at you and everything everywhere. Don’t take it personally.

The main protagonist Ryougi shiki is name as “両儀 式” Ryougi is the family name which is a term of fengshui in Chinese. Ryougi mean two sides of the things (Also known as Yin and Yang) for example, light and darkness, positive and negative, male and female. Ryougi family is one of the expert of hunting evil. And the way they power up themselves is try to insert multiple personalities into one body. That why at the beginning, shiki has two soul living in her, “式”&“織”. Mikiya and shiki is in the same school but they first met in a snowy day. However shiki didn't remember becuz she is not “her” at that time. That why she feel Mikiya is rude at first. The first date in the downtown was Mikiya and the Male shiki. They separated Male shiki and Female shiki by the color of the kimono (clothing). M.shiki with yellow/orange and F.shiki with a blue one. At the same time, serial killer appeared. There are the same “Taiji” sign on all of the victim, and “Taiji” is the step before “Ryougi” in fengshui. F.Shiki always think she was the light side (affirm) and M.shiki is the dark side (denial). However M.shiki still maintain innocence. In the other sides, F.shiki absorb a lot of negative emotion and try to kill Mikiya because he break into her life. Then the accident happened. M.shiki protect Mikiya and die for F.shiki in the car accident. And shiki sleep for two years. When shiki still in hospital, Mikiya accidentally saw the puppet create by Touko which similar to shiki. After two years, shiki awake with the mystic eyes becuz she had experienced death once. When she woke up, she realized she lost M.shiki and try to destroy her eyes. Because shiki is a vessel of two soul, since M.shiki pass away, there are an empty space. That's why the ghost in the hospital try to fill her body and take control to rebirth. And at the end, shiki defeat the evil with the help from Touko. And then the fight with Fujino. In that fight, shiki's arm twisted and destroyed by Fujino. Touko then replace a prosthetic arm with the ability to grab the ghost for her. That the reason she can catch the ghost above the building. The next fight is the ghost flying above the building. These two are pretty straight forward. And the chapter paradox spiral, which is the most complicated chapter I think. And it explains why those event happen around shiki is cause by Araya. Although, it's not the final event in the story I'll still say Araya is the final boss. Since he persuade Kirie, Fujino and the gold hair bastard and change them into the opposite side of shiki. Also the scale of his purpose is different with the others. Then will be the little trouble happen in Mikiya's sister school. And the gold hair shiki imitate pervert chapter, recall to the serial killer two year ago. The rest of them is kinda like after story or some detail recap.

Since it has such a different vibe to almost everything else on the market, I was afraid it may simply not resonate with you. Congrats on almost finishing the entire series and looking forward to the last movie, which is my personal second favourite right after Paradoxical Spiral. On Aozaki, I would also strongly recommend reading Mahoyo first, perhaps even before FGO. It is currently on Steam with official English translations. I think it is a really good starting point for visual novels as a genre and the actual writing style of Nasu in general. If you enjoy Mahoyo, it is very likely that you will enjoy FGO, the OG Stay Night novel (on Steam as well) and Tsukihime remake. Apart from the story, the music and artwork show they put on in Mahoyo is just insane, a visual spectacle, literally the best in the genre. If you really want an extremely short example of Nasu's writing, I would also recommend Tsuki no Sango, which is an audiobook read by Sakamoto Maaya (Jeanne and Shiki's VA). It's very short, only about 1h30min in total and fan subs versions should be on YouTube. It is also a romance story kind of like this particular movie. If you find this style of writing from Nasu good, then Mahoyo etc. should be no problem as well.
