Should I try the Fate/Grand Order game? 🗡️

Hey guys! I just wanted your honest opinion on if it's worth trying out the FGO game. I've always been more of a watcher than a reader and I'm sure you guys know that by now. I don't intend to be a hardcore player or anything at all since I don't play games anymore (I get no time) but I just thought why not try it out at least once especially if you guys want me to!

I'm actually very open to it and what motivates me the most is delivering content to you guys which you enjoy and want to see. I'm not a super smart walking Fate encyclopedia like how most of you are (it's so impressive!) but I think you guys might enjoy seeing me be clueless in a new game for the first time while getting my ass beaten by every boss.

So go ahead and let me know your thoughts and feel free to vote. YOU GUYS HAVE THE POWER!

It's worth it just to experience Lostbelt 5, 6 and 7 in my humble opinion. Those are hands down THE best gacha game stories you will ever experience, absolutely phenomenal. The gameplay itself really isn't THAT bad. People neglect to mention that the games mechanics, systems, challenge content is quite fun and unique even though that's only 10% of the game while the remainder is farming. There are some super fun units in the game LIKE Bazett, Aoko, Arcueid, Tonelico, Habetrot, Draco who all have different niches and can play in different comps like multicore (don't worry too much about that, you'll learn eventually). Fun solo units like King Hassan, Kama, Baobhan Pretender, Barghest etc. I genuinely can say I do enjoy my time when I look at it this way. This game also hands you gacha currency a lot more than HSR, WW, Genshin and I feel like the devs also understand how valuable our time is. You always have time to fully complete events and some of them actually have a pretty good story like GUDAGUDA. The only time I catch myself playing more than 2-3 hours a day on FGO is if I am grinding a lottery. THAT'S the only exception and that's why I love FGO, it doesn't feel mind numbingly greedy in taking up too much of your time. I say this as someone working two jobs, this is something to consider. There are times during the beginning as a new player that your AP will be over capped and you'll have to keep playing through the story until that ends up evening out. I'd either recommend utilizing the skip button at the top right and skip all the way through until Camelot OR optionally just skim really quick through the beginning story but not pay too much attention to it just to get a general idea of what's going on. The AP cap should stop around Babylonia but I highly don't recommend letting your action points rot in excess. Another helpful tip is that NA now has something called blue/bronze apples but you only unlock it after partial completion of Lostbelt 5 if I'm not mistaken, please correct me if I'm wrong. It's the same thing as storing up your AP in HSR except it's not automatic, it'll have to be done through the Da Vinci shop. Final tip. Please, just take the time to get involved in knowledgeable FGO communities. I'm actively involved in Khadroth's community Discord and streams and highly recommend taking time in his streams and maybe asking questions and looking up his guide videos on YouTube as they helped me immensely in understanding certain aspects of the game. Lastly, just have fun. I wouldn't worry about the game being outdated, it's really not any worse than playing a classic JRPG in that regard.

You can't... we're deep in the mud of the grail

Nanaya

I mean...you can try it first. If you didn't like it, then it's fine. Most of us will understand. There's no cutscenes like in 3D, all of it were all in 2D. Imo, for the current players in general mobile games, it might not be engaging to them. Honestly, the one that felt good was the boss fights. Wish we could have a better fgo game in the future. Anyway, been playing it for 6yrs already. I want to consider myself as an f2P , but I've been spending money on fgo too. Only in the gssr though, so at least it's guaranteed.

4/5 days but not for everything I think. You gotta act fast for the main and big rewards.

K K

Barely at all. The last JP bosses did have some so we may get them in 2 years. On a serious note, JP lately started getting unheard of QoL updates, so our far future is very bright.

CrypticBoss

When does it officially end

CrypticBoss

Are there cut scenes? Like the trailers they have for the game which look like movies

CrypticBoss

Are you f2p?

CrypticBoss

Honestly, no. The gameplay is old OLD. But, If you want it, then go for it. Me personally still play it for 5 years haha

I wouldn't care if you skipped the story up to the end of babylonia, though you should to try to understand the many many things the anime skipped. The gameplay may not be for you at the start, but it is very easy up to babylonia+, so if you want to get fast to the parts where you actually feel like you are using your brain, speedrunning the story is the way. Also everything gets better each arc like I say for the anime. The further you are in the story, the better the game looks and the levels feel more new/fun. And finally if you didn't understand yet, the levels of the story ARE the gameplay 75% of the time.

Roasting other's characters as someone who joined at the 7th year of the game...

K K

The 7th Anni is about to end, this is the best time to start playing!!!

True, Nasu said himself early chapters are not plot-focused as they want new players and non-fans to grasp the concept of the franchise first. Real fate starts with Camelot.

JAlterReignsSupreme

Now's as good a time as ever to get into it with the 7th anniversary going on so you can get a good jumpstart with a couple of SSRs off the bat. The game definitely has its flaws which are glaring (what gacha doesn't lets be honest), but honestly? It's managed to stay this strong for 7+ years for a good reason. A fair warning as others have said the first 4 singularity chapters are kinda doodoo and reek of mobile game story, America is where the story starts to pick up and Camelot is where they start cooking to turn the plot from a 4/10 to a 9/10 and it only gets better from there (except Agartha but that's completely skipable). Honestly the best part about FGO for me is that unlike other gacha games I don't have to worry too much about FOMO with events or hardcore power shifts in the meta for content like PVP since the game's biggest focus is the story. Yeah there's a meta but even then it feels like lower rarity servants actually have a use and can do some good stuff as opposed to any other gacha game where rares and below are just trash. It just feels like one big, ongoing JRPG in the style of a visual novel so you can go in at whatever pace you want!

I'll be honest and say i love the game, however that's because of the story. And while there's plenty of complexity to the gameplay it's still a game that came out in 2015 so it will feel very dated. nasu has even talked about all the issues with gameplay (including coding) and how he wished they could change it, but because of all the spaghetti code it's not really possible. I will say is give it a try if you don't mind how old it feels but if it's not for you it's fine to drop the game and just go through the other games (like fate/samurai remnant). Another thing i want to mention is i have my suspicions and i won't say them, but i think it's possible that they might make another f/go game.

kuro_emiya

Nah, that's hell you are walking into

matthew bremmer

Honestly with the early chapters your millage may vary, I also don't think the gameplay itself is good, I play it for the story so idk if it's something I would recommend

Jarm957

Now is the best time, because of all the anniversary rewards. The combat is the best, simple but challenging. It’s like portal

Kaleidoscope

From an objective standpoint I do not recommend hopping into the game right now. While we who play the game love it we are also aware of the negatives that unfortunately are outweighing the positives with time. The game is amazing for true fans like me and most from the community. But as a gacha game it is lacking. The story is 10/10 the majority of the existing content. Events are mostly fun but can be time draining. Considering the fact that the story and the characters are what is holding us TYPE-MOON fans tied to this game I'd heavily recommend just going through the story and current content on YouTube until the developers unleash the true potential of the game we know as FGO. Play Wuthering Waves or watch some amazing Anime instead. I definitely understand that many people will be biased and think that just because they love it means everyone will as well. But I chose the most helpful objective and non-biased response. Hope it helped.

Mitaki

Wuthering Waves is fairly new, while FGO just went into it's 7th Anniversary (soon to be 9th on the JP Server), so there's significant differences. Of course it's ultimately down to each persona's own experience so you'll have to see for yourself. I will say this as a heads up, not a spoiler to be clear, however so you know ahead of time, FGO's story at the beginning will be lackluster for the first couple of story parts, so you'll have to bear with it until you get to the point the real FGO experience starts if you go for it.

Ps, if you do make sure to add me as your friend!

WiredLearner

I've seen many people try to do it, but those early chapters REALLY show their age nowadays. The anime adaptions skipped right to Camelot for good reason.

None None

Ngl boss, It’ll be a fun experience, but I gotta warn u this game’s story will only start cooking once u start Camelot. Not to mention that this game’s gacha RNG and pity system is pretty bad. So for a good experience play F2P till they have guarantee SSR or sumn (which is rn btw).

Ken

If you do, make sure to start the game relatively soon, as the games anniversary is going on right now and it ends on the 16th (I think?) and you get a whole bunch of bonus rewards plus some banners that give you guaranteed 5 stars (highest units in the game)

WiredLearner

Oh thats actually amazing!! I love it when i can include you guys in stuff and that would definitely be fun. Roasting your guys' characters :D

CrypticBoss

Do it. What’s fun is that you can use your friend’s servants when doing battle, so it’s fun to see the servants we spent years upgrading and loving to demolish content

GerdaSimp

I'll try to save the gang

CrypticBoss

I actually was obsessed with this game that came out recently called Wuthering Waves but I literally couldn't continue playing it cuz I had no free time so I'd like to say I can probably drop it easily whenever I want. But at the same time....you guys were right about the Fate anime to begin with. I put my toe in that rabbit hole and now I'm in all kinds of Fate holes.

CrypticBoss

Once your on that rabbit hole there's no getting out just to warn you. Still story wise it's a worthy experience, and has many great moments so its worth the Hell if your willing to.

ManiacGuy 789

That’s hell you are walking into. But the gang has been living there.

JAlterReignsSupreme
