FGO Camelot Movie 1 (UNCUT REACTION)

And this movie was "bad"?

FGO Camelot Movie 1 (UNCUT REACTION)

There's a lot I wish these adaptations had done better (there are a couple of cool characters and a very important subplot that got cut entirely, and a lot of what did get included is heavily abridged) but I can forgive it all because of how beautifully they did Arash's heroic sacrifice. Seriously, I can't watch that scene without tearing up, they did our bro justice. Also as others have said, the reason F/GO fans had such high expectations for this was that this was the chapter where the story and really the game as a whole got good. The first four singularities had pretty bad writing, and 5 was where the writers started putting actual effort in, but this one, the 6th singularity, was where it really stopped being just a cash grab gacha game and started being a story worthy of standing alongside the rest of the franchise. So, people were super excited when the movies got announced and then disappointed by how much got cut. Especially since this actually came out after Babylonia, despite occurring before it in the story, and Babylonia got a full 24 episodes to cover its material so ended up being a much more faithful and therefore beloved adaptation. People were hoping for the same for Camelot but in 2 movies it just wasn't possible, the studio did the best they could. I'm still glad you enjoyed it though! Honestly this is still a good movie with some great scenes, and part 2 is better in a lot of ways.

No hate on the staff, but honestly this adaptation is quite bad. Perhaps ok compared to other non-TM works, but if brought in line with the original script? Yes it is. Basically, they took a 9.5/10 story and brought it down to a 6. First, it took off a couple of characters which serve a lot of purpose in the later story because of limited time for 2 movies. Secondly, the pacing is quite wrong. It seems as if it's just trying to lay a story out rather than actually telling it well, very monotonic. Thirdly, which is perhaps the worst, it had very out-of-character lines, especially on Bedivere. As you may have learned or may learn in the next movie, he is a very kind and strongly-willed person. The fact that he got triggered just because someone touched his arm accidentally simply would not happen and did not happen in the original. Last but not least, it had serious problems in setting the power levels of the characters. Specifically, Bedi's NP would not be able to neutralise and knock Gawain's NP down. He is not a particularly strong character in terms of powers (and kind of the point of his character development). In the original text, this NP from Bedi only temporarily caught Gawain off guard and bought them time to get away. And the change makes no sense, since Gawain is the strongest currently in the Round, if Bedi could single-handedly beat Gawain down, they would not need to go through all the fuzz of making alliances with others. The main cause is the scriptwriter. He had his own thoughts and clearly, they don't stand to nearly the same quality as Nasu's work. He is also responsible for a lot of the boring Boruto TV original episodes. The second movie is much better since the director did not listen to him and instead tried to do justice after what happened to the first one. Unfortunately, he is also in some of the Babylonia episodes, and the rest of the team had to clean up after his mess. If something feels off in all the FGO animes, mostly it's him.

1:07:20 We already knew from a prevous Singularity that Fujimaru is immune to any poison due to his contract with Mash due to her shield purifying all impurities. In the 4th Singularity, London, the streets become full of Jack the Ripper's poisonous mist which would've made impossible for any humans to wander the streets. That's when Ritsuka find out that were it not for Mash's shield, he would've been dead right there.

What if they run another poll 👀

Arash might actually be the most likeable character in the entire fgo so far

CrypticBoss

Totally agree 💯

no hate for the Camelot movies, which are really well animated. But it’s tough because they started adapting these series pretty early on in FGO’s story (aniplex ran a poll in Jan 2018 asking FGO fans what stories they wanted adapted and how, and the results ranked Babylonia #1 (series) and Camelot #2 (movies)). And there are good singularity stories but imo the story really hits its peak deep into the lostbelt chapters. So I get why people hate on Camelot years after it came out when they would prefer a series adaptation of something like LB6, which is the peak of peak.

I do get why a lot of people dislike this movie as it does cut a lot from the game, whole scenes and characters, but I do think as its own movie it does a good job of delivering the main core of the story. Cuts are inevitable when adapting it into a limited time-frame like a movie. Also they did such a beautiful job adapting Arash's final attack.

Btw it's normal to be confused as the 2nd movie will show you why 'lion king' used this cruel method. Arash legend: he was on the losing side and proposed a bet that his people will get the land the arrow travelled through. Arash made the shot, some said it travelled across the mountain ranges, some said for days and nights. He managed to end conflict and regain the land for his people but at the cost of his life.

It's all good, I'd advise to be open minded to everything and taking them in deeply. Also, check out Arash story, like you did you Cu. Arash, ending a 60 years of war being raged, ended the war with a single arrow, at the cost of his life.

They cut a lot of story from the original material (from the game ofc). And plus another reason is maybe because the earlier chapters (Camelot movie 1 story) are mainly world building with less action scenes. That's maybe why they said it's bad (not meet expectation actually)

JAlterReignsSupreme

That's fair I mean I never played the game so I'd never know how much got cut off but I'm sure movie 2 does it better in that aspect. I still enjoyed this movie and even though it cut out parts, it still was able to hit me deep and emotionally move me with the introduction of these new characters as well

CrypticBoss

Despite the many, and I mean a lot was pretty somewhat disappointing and cuts made for cut character's. Gotta say, it's pretty good in the important parts of the story. A shame this could've been a series but these were meant to be only advertised to play F/GO as well. Anyway, forget my comment above, glad to see you reacting to this and I'll be waiting for Camelot 2 movie.
