The left shoe is on but not closed the second is still on the floor and her foot hangs on the edge of the footplate. She gives up and goes to the door. The door opens and there he stands. He smiles and he is holding a big bouquet of flowers. She is a little nervous and tries to greet him welcome while she feels annoyed that she is wearing just one shoe. She is hoping he didn’t noticed it. She welcomes him to the house and turns to roll ahead towards the living room. He puts the flowers on the table and she apologies for not being ready. ‘Just give me one minute’. She rolls to bathroom where the other shoe lays in the same spot she left it. She comes back with it on her lap. In the meanwhile he took a seat on the sofa. She tries to put on the shoe again while making conversation. Her bare legs look great with the dress she picked to wear for this meeting. The muscles are barely visible, the skin looks like its just wrapped around the bones. Her toe nails on her feet are painted dark purple. He observes her from this distance while she is forcing he heel onto her foot. She turns slightly red on her cheeks. Her hair moves across her face while she smiles to cover the frustration. He asks her ‘Can I help?’. ‘No, I do this everyday’ she replies.
Finally the shoe is on and she bends over to put them straight on the foot plate. Her hands correct the heels and they look like they are made for her. He admirers her effort and compliments her on her beauty.
She smiles and reminds herself to put the flowers in a vase. She rolls to the table, grabs the flowers and takes them to the kitchen. He follows her and offers to help. She takes of the wrapping foil that’s wrapped around the flowers he picked out for her. He stands next to her but blocks the access to the drawer with cutlery. She looks up to meet his eyes and her hand seem to reach for his hip but goes to the handle to get a pair of scissors out the drawer.
He steps aside and she asks him to take a vase out of the closet. She could never reach it if she was by herself. He takes it off the shelf and fills it with water. She undoes some flowers of a few leaves and puts them in the vase one by one.
The take drinks with them back to the living while talking about music. As he sits down at the table she admits she never danced since she is in the wheelchair. He looks surprised. ‘Come let’s try it!’. He stands up again, bends over towards her, takes her hand and tries to roll her closer to him to the open space in the living room. She laughs but doesn’t know what to do. He tries to be smooth and dances around her but sees her feeling uncomfortable. ‘I don’t know how to move in this chair’ she says. He looks at her with piercing eyes and goes on one knee in front of her. He puts one hand on her knee and asks’ May I lift you out the chair?’. She smiles and reaches for his neck with both hands. He takes her legs and her waist and lifts her up. Swirls around and then gently walks towards the table. He puts her on the table but still holds her. She tries to sit up straight without falling. Holding him. Her legs hanging down and he moves close so she can hug him around his waist with her head on his chest. She looks up and he leans in. They start kissing and his hands carefully lay her down on the table. He makes sure her legs are safe. And kisses her again passionately.
