Person of Interest S02E16: Relevance (Full Reaction)

Comments

Relevance- Yay! Thank you again for another fantastic reaction for Person of Interest, Reds!!! I really, really love this episode! It's certainly another of my favorite episodes this season! And you've now been introduced to Sameen, or Sam Shaw, played by fantastic actress, Sarah Shahi. A great actress whom I really love in other shows too. Shows such as Fairly Legal, Alias, Reverie, and The Rookie. And I absolutely love Shaw's character here in Person of Interest the most, out of any role she's ever played. As well as her partner's character, Michael Cole, played by actor... Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Who also guest starred in three episodes of the Star Wars series... Andor, too. He's been in a few other shows I've seen, as well as in a beautiful romance movie I absolutely love, titled... The Lake House. First, regarding Shaw and Cole working for another organization that has access to the numbers similar to the numbers given to Reese and Finch through the Machine... If you remember from previous episodes, Finch and Nathan sold the Machine to various government organizations such as the CIA, NSA, etc... And there are, or were originally only eight people in total who knew about the Machine and its numbers, including Finch, Nathan, and Alicia Corwin, whom Root killed in season one's finale. Root also tortured and killed Denton Weeks... another one of these eight people who knew about the Machine, back in this season's second episode, titled... Bad Code. She wanted to know more about the Machine. Which is why she is now posing as a secretary to the man Shaw spared the life of here in this episode. This man Hersh is working for, known only as Special Cousel. Yet another person within the eight who knows about the Machine. However, Finch is the only person with access to the Machine itself. And each of these eight people know, or knew of the Machine, and are/were sent only numbers just like Finch and Reese. Only the numbers sent to everyone else are all relevant numbers such as terrorists, or the numbers of people who could be responsible for the death of multiple lives. Whereas, Finch and Reese receive irrelevant numbers. The numbers for people not important to National Security. Shaw and her partner, Cole, are, or were operatives working for Special Counsel and Control, and they were given relevant numbers to either save or kill. Unfortunately, Cole discovered that their organization has become corrupt, and might be possibly sending them numbers for them to kill, when these people like Akino, are actually innocent. Akino... The innocent whom Cole talked to Shaw about just before he was tragically killed saving Shaw's life. Which is why a kill squad was sent to kill both Shaw and Cole. I hope this long explanation makes sense and helps clears things up for you. I always feel so sad when Shaw's partner, Cole, is killed off every time I watch this episode. His death is most certainly tragic, because his character really is great, and he and Shaw did have great chemistry. However, I love the moment in this episode when Cole immediately jumps between Shaw and the bullets to protect her, giving his life for her. He definitely cared about her very much, and while Shaw tells the drug dealers that she doesn't feel emotions or empathy like everyone else, from her reaction you can tell that she really did care about Cole. I love Shaw's determination to go after their boss upon finding out he set them both up to be killed. Also... I love when she shoots her former boss, Wilson, to get her revenge in the end. What a brilliant moment for Shaw! And yet she also understands that she's done good for the government and protected good people, or killed bad people, and therefore I love how she still wants to protect the project, no matter how the numbers she's been getting are given to her. Because this project does still do some good too. Sadly... Until the very ending, she's still just naive enough to believe that the people she was working for aside from Wilson, were still on the up and up, when she is very, very wrong to have believed as such. Unfortunately, Special Counsel orders Hersh to kill her anyways, and they would have succeeded were it not for Reese, Finch, Carter, Fusco, and Tao all working together to fake her death in order to save her life. Had Shaw taken Finch's advice, this might not have happened to her. I love how this episode was shown through Shaw's point of view, making Reese and Finch more like secondary characters throughout this episode. And I love each of their interactions! Especially in the very end after Reese, Finch, Fusco, Carter, and even Leon Tao saves her life when she's "killed" by Control's number one thug... Hersh. Brilliant! I love how they save Shaw, then how Finch offers her his card for a second time, which sets up the possibility for Shaw to come back into the show at some point. Like you... I love that she's someone who can fight like Reese and that there's a good chance of her being a recurring character in the future. :) Overall... This is a brilliant episode! And I love it! So... Thank you so much for another great reaction, my dear friend!!! Until next time... Sincerely, Heidi
