Iron Man (Movie Reaction)

Comments

Iron Man- Thank you very much for such a fun reaction to this first movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Reds! And what a fun movie to begin with too! I really enjoy this first Iron Man movie, and Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man is fantastic!! I never really pictured an actor like Robert Downey Jr. to ever play such a role. I've seen him in a number of classic, or 80s and 90s movies, long before the Marvel Universe came about. And he has just always seemed like the kind of actor I would have expected to play more classic, or cinematic like roles. I guess I just never thought I would see an actor like Robert Downey Jr. playing a superhero in multiple movies, especially given that there are so many superhero movies out there. And yet... he is perfect in the role as Tony Stark. I am not a comic book fan, but I did know of this character from watching episodes here and there of the classic superhero cartoons when I was younger. So, of course I knew of his character before I first saw Iron Man back in 2008 when it first came out in theaters. And I really just love Robert Downey Jr. in these movies. Now... Tony Stark isn't one of my favorite characters within this Marvel Universe like he is for most people who love these movies. Don't get me wrong... I love his character. I think he's a fantastic character, and a lot of fun because Tony is such an eccentric and hilarious guy. And he is also incredibly intelligent, as he is a genius when it comes to technology. He has all the high tech and of course... the money too. I believe Tony Stark is said to be a billionaire, but he often seems to have an unlimited amount of money. And boy... he never lets anyone forget it. :) Tony Stark is a fantastic character for sure, and he is most certainly known for being among most fans of the Marvel Universe's favorite character. I love him, but I happen to love other characters even more for various reasons. Now... I also really love Pepper Potts played by Gwyneth Paltrow and James Rhodes, or Rhodey like Tony and Pepper often call him. As do others throughout these movies as well. He is played by Terrance Howard here in the first Iron Man movie. However, Rhodes will be played by a different actor throughout the rest of the movies that he's in down the road, starting in Iron Man 2. He will come to be played by Don Cheadle. Nonetheless... Pepper and Rhodey are Tony's closest friends and colleagues. He depends on them both to have his back and therefore, trusts in them completely. I really enjoy both of these characters throughout these movies very much too. And just as Tony trusts in his two closest friends, he also has complete trust in his smart computer that runs his home and helps him run his suit as well... Jarvis, voiced by a phenomenal actor that I love... Paul Bettany. Jarvis is amazing. I love that he has the ability to voice sarcasm and humor when bantering with Tony as they talk with one another, and when he helps Tony and Pepper to run Stark Industries. Something that you don't learn about in this movie, or in the others, but in stories and information about Tony Stark you can read about his character, and possibly in the comics and in the cartoons... we learn that Jarvis is actually named after a close friend of Tony's family, and someone who helped Tony's parents raise him. Edwin Jarvis worked for Tony's father, Howard Stark, as his butler and so much more. And he meant a lot to Tony, even though Tony doesn't ever talk about him in the movies. And yet, he names this smart computer after him. Jarvis is a very important character within these movies, as you will come to see. And more so... there is actually one of the first of all of the TV shows to come from this Marvel Universe that came out from 2015- 2016, in which you will come to meet Edwin Jarvis, Howard's closest friend... in Agent Carter. I would highly recommend you come to watch Agent Carter should you have an opening for a new show, which sadly lasted only two short seasons. And Edwin Jarvis is one of the show's major characters, along with Howard Stark, and of course... Agent Carter, whom you won't meet until the first Captain America movie. And you don't want to watch this show until after you watch Captain America: The First Avenger, where you will not only meet Agent Carter, but also Howard Stark too. As for Obediah Stain, Tony's father's old friend, and the first villain within this Marvel Universe... I agree with you that he is just okay. Jeff Bridges is the actor who plays him, and while I think Jeff Bridges is a fantastic actor in a number of other movies I've seen him in, I don't really care all that much for his role here in the first Iron Man movie. We come to see that Obediah tried to have Tony killed so that he could become the owner and leader behind Stark Industries. And that he was selling the weapons the company was making to the terrorists known as the Ten Rings. I like the idea of this character, and his overall motives for wanting to kill Tony so he could take over his and his father's company. I just feel like this character could have been better written, and possibly even better acted, in spite of the high regard I hold for Jeff Bridges as an actor. Obediah is a good first villain, but I am glad that he is also a one movie villain too. I really enjoy the overall storylines throughout this first movie. I especially love seeing how Iron Man comes to be born, and seeing Tony's motives for creating Iron Man, upon coming to see that he doesn't want his or his father's name to stand for death. I love seeing Tony grow into becoming one of this Universe's first and most beloved superheroes. Tony, Jarvis, Pepper, and Rhodey are all great characters you will continue to get to know and love as you continue to watch and hopefully continue to enjoy these movies to come. :) Thank you once again, Reds! I am happy you enjoyed Iron Man, and I am happy that you are excited to continue on with watching these entertaining movies within this Marvel Cinematic Universe! I am looking forward to you continuing on with Iron Man 2 in June. So, until then, my friend... :) Thank you! Sincerely, Heidi
