I don't know if you remember it since it's a very old episode but the dream scenes reminded a little of the Supernatural episode where the djinn have Dean dream about a life where his mother didn't get killed so he and Sam don't become hunters etc and the way he gets out of it is by killing himself so that is what I thought would happen here too. I'm the same as your husband, I only watch Flash, Legends etc during the crossovers or if Felicity makes an appearance. It can get confusing at times but the previously usually helps, they usually also sprinkle in little things for those who don't watch all of the shows like Cisco quickly explaining what his vibe thing was. If you didn't know, this was Arrow's 100th episode so I especially liked all of the callbacks to the earlier seasons like Oliver's first bow, previous bad guys etc.
