Behind The Spotlight Chapter 17

"It says here that there's an audition going on in this building..."

Lawrence Terrence muttered to himself while staring at the five-story building. He was holding a note; on the note was the address, building, and room number where the audition was going to happen.

Lawrence looked at the building, it looked old and unmanaged. Ivies crawled up the walls, and there were broken windows and graffiti of a cartoon character in front of the building.

He could say that this was the last building he expected to go to in an audition. Still, Lawrence decided to go inside.

Lawrence saw on the casting notice board in the Writer's Guild that this certain project was looking for actors. He had no idea what the project was except for the fact that it was a comedy movie. The title wasn't even in the notice.

He felt like it was a scam, but Lawrence decided to go anyway. He had tried to audition in so many projects but he always failed. He was a theater actor in his high school before he decided to go to Hollywood to find opportunities...

So far, he couldn't find even one opportunity. It was tough. He had been in Hollywood for almost a year now and he couldn't help but feel like his dream was impossible to achieve. He tried to apply in agencies but no one took him seriously.

As of now, Lawrence was just a newspaper seller in the streets to make money.

"This building doesn't have an elevator..." He had no choice but to use the stairs.

When he reached the fourth floor, where the audition room was, Lawrence was already sweating. He found a broken mirror hanging on a wall and looked at himself. He wiped himself using his palms as he didn't want to wet his t-shirt... The best T-shirt he had.

While walking, he found that a few people were also in the hallway, sitting around or standing. They were men and women who were also going to the audition.

When he reached a dozen people waiting, Lawrence sighed in relief.

"It looks like this audition is real and not a scam."

Based on what he was seeing, this movie was probably a small-budget comedy movie. Hollywood makes thousands of movies every year, and small-budget movies make up around 80% of that.

Still, despite being a small-budget movie, the fact that dozens of people showed up to audition showed that the small-budget was not taken lightly.

For these actors and actresses, starring in a small-budget movie was already an honor. They knew how hard it was to even become part of the cast.

As long as their faces were shown on the screen, it was considered great exposure, working experience, and additional credentials to their resumes.

Lawrence also had the same mindset. His chances of getting an imposter role were low. After all, most of the time, the important roles in the movies were already taken the moment the project started. The director, producer, and agents knew actors whom they could introduce to the star in the movie.

At best, Lawrence hoped he could become a minor role. It didn't matter if he had to be a robber, waiter, or whatsoever. As long as he had lines, at least one line, then Lawrence was already satisfied.

In fact, Lawrence knew that small-budget movies like this one usually pay a minimum wage salary, so he was not expecting a lot.

As long as he became a part of a movie, then his credentials would increase and he could present that to other projects in hopes that he would be hired.

"I don't even have a copy of the script."

He looked at the others, and only a few people had copies of the scripts. These people were probably from ANT, they were quite lucky as the director of this project was also from ANT. He didn't have a problem sharing a portion of the scripts with them.

"... Maybe I can apply to ANT." He recalled that he still hasn't tried applying to this agency.

As time went by, the line moved up until Lawrence was next in to call.

A person came out of the room, he was tall and looked tough. He glanced at Lawrence and said, "I'm done with my audition, the directors are calling for the next one."

"O- Okay."

Lawrence stood up, a bit nervous.
