Behind The Spotlight Chapter 2

Colin East weakly opened his eyes and groaned. He felt like his head was going to pop.

"Ugh."

"Doctor, my son is awake!"

Colin heard his mother's voice who was worried about his situation.

"Mom..."

"Son, thank God, you're alive. I don't know what to do if something happens to you too." She cried as tears fell.

Then, Colin fell asleep again.

.........

......

...

When Colin woke up for the second time, he weakly raised his head and found his mother sitting next to his hospital bed, sleeping in an uncomfortable position.

"This is the second time you wake up, hopefully you won't fall asleep again."

Colin turned to his right and found his younger sister glaring at him. Even though she had makeup, it was obvious from her swollen eyes that she cried a lot.

Colin weakly laughed and apologized.

"Yeah, sorry about that Aida."

"Dummy, you don't have to apologize. Just... Just take care of yourself."

She sighed. She knew how much Colin was working these months. They were in debt after their father died.

Their father had cancer and the family made sure that he would get treated. Unfortunately, after years of fighting, treatment, and surgery, Tony Colin, their father still died.

In the process, they lost money, their father's insurance, and the house just to make sure that Tony would get treated. They were in debt when Tony died.

Being the man in the family, Colin stepped up and worked hard to provide for them.

He made sure that his sister would get to college no matter what. He also made sure that his old mother would never work in her old age. He took all of the responsibility.

"The doctor said you overworked yourself. You need to stay in the hospital for three days."

"That's great to hear. I thought I had to stay more in this place... You know how expensive hospitals are."

He bitterly laughed. They knew how hospitals work.

The medical industry in the United States of America was a whole scam. It feels like people would rather die than face their medical bills because everyone knew how expensive it would be.

"Don't worry, your medical insurance covered most of the expenses."

"Ah, thank God."

Colin sighed in relief. He was really happy when he heard that.

"Don't make us cry again... Bro."

Aida, Colin's younger sister, sniffed and couldn't control her emotions. She tried hard not to cry but she failed.

"Don't worry, I'll never do it again."

"You better be."

She snorted, trying to stop her tears, and walked out of the room. She wiped her tears and talked to the nurse.

"Excuse me, um, the guy in room 69 is now awake."

"We will examine him later." The nurse replied.

"Thank you."

The doctor and nurse entered the room and checked Colin's status. His mother woke up and was so happy when she saw her son awake.

It took a minute for Aida and Colin to calm their mother down. Well, it was very hard for their family since they just lost Tony last year. It would be devastating if Colin disappeared like that.

The examination ended in a positive result and Colin could leave the hospital in three days. He just needed rest. Everyone was happy when they heard that.

Their mother, Evelyn East, decided to stay in the hospital to take care of Colin. Aida had to go to school so she could only visit in her free time.

The siblings tried to stop Evelyn from working too hard but the mother was adamant. Probably because she was really worried about her son.

In the end, the siblings agreed.

Just like that, two days passed, and Colin was on his last day in the hospital when one of his clients visited him.

It was Wyatt Bray. The young assistant director wanted to know if his agent was fine when he heard that Colin fainted.

Wyatt was thankful that Colin helped him find a huge gig as his first job in the industry. Yes, his position in Director Esteban's movie was still a freelancer assistant director. There was still no confirmation that he was permanent. He was sort of in an internship.

"Wyatt, it's nice to meet you."

The agent joyfully greeted his client who had the most potential to make it big. Colin didn't forget to keep the smile, the most used expression in his career.

"Good morning, Colin."

Wyatt was still not used to seeing his agent. He was actually confused as to why a handsome person like Colin East decided to become an agent instead of an actor. He definitely had the face to be one.
