"... I think I'm going to die now."

Darwin weakly muttered as he looked at the sky. He was a cyclist who was traveling Junian. He had a part-time job doing food delivery. 

While traveling the region, the zombie hordes started and Darwin was caught in the turmoil. 

He tried his best but it was futile. Some parts of Junian were still suffering from small cases of zombie attacks and the region where Darwin stayed was one of them. 

Darwin was gasping for air as he looked at his wound. He was bitten by a zombie... He knew what was going to happen. 

Still, Darwin did his best to survive. To escape the zombie hordes, he went to the sewer and stayed the night.

However, his wound was getting worse. He felt like he was losing his senses. He was dying. 

"... If I knew that I will die, I should have tried to talk to girls. Dying is much worst than rejection, I guess."

His life was simple. He loved traveling the country pedaling his bicycle. It was an achievement that he was proud of. 

"Maybe I can use that as a way to attract females."

His vision was getting darker. Even his sense of hearing was already gone. 

"... I don't want to die."

With a bitter smile, a single tear rolled down and he closed his eyes. 

Suddenly, a woman who was wearing tattered clothes showed up. The woman didn't know what she was doing. She just ran for hours to escape the dungeon. 

There was a battle in the dungeon and many prisoners escaped. Because the woman was scared, she immediately ran away without looking back. 

For a long time, she was curious about life outside of the dungeon. 

"Guah guah--!"

While running, the woman met her first acquaintance. This was her first meeting with another person outside the dungeon. 

The woman curiously approached the man lying on the dirty floor. 

"Guah gauh!"

She didn't know how to speak so her mouth was just saying things. 

The woman touched the man out of curiosity. 

Suddenly, a blinding light covered the sewer and the woman screamed in fear. 

"... Huh?"

Darwin opened his eyes. He was surprised and confused at the same time. He looked at his body and realized that his wounds were healed. 

"I thought I already died?"

Darwin asked himself. He was gone for a few seconds. 

"Giih! Hiiig-!"

Darwin realized that there was a person in front of him. It was a woman. 

"A- are you okay?"

"Giih! Juuu!"

He approached the woman. He realized that the woman was scared. She was exhausted too. She wanted to run away but her body was too weak after the blinding light. 

"Did you save me?"

"Guah! Uagh!"

The woman tried to act tough and raised her hands to defend herself. 

"N- No, I'm not a bad person. Thank you so much for saving me."

Darwin was eternally grateful that the woman saved him. 

He approached her closer and realized another thing. The woman had dark skin. Her eyes were glowing green and she had long ears. Just like the Elves. 

"A Dark Elf."

Darwin unconsciously muttered. He thought Demihumans were already extinct. Yet the woman in front of him resembles a Dark Elf from the ancient world. 

"I promise to protect you with all my heart."

Darwin kneeled down and swore his loyalty. Although the woman in question was still scared of him.

"You contacted me, at last."

Esmeralda Margaret sat down. Across from her was Calix Romoel. 

"I know that you are busy these days so I didn't disturb you."

"Master, you know that I set aside my schedule just to be with you."

"I know." 

Calix had a stoic expression. 

"So... Did you meet her? My daughter?"

Margaret asked casually but the atmosphere became colder. She had a sweet smile on her face but Calix knew that the woman was nervous. 

"I did."

"So--"

"But I will not tell you a damn thing."

"What did you say?"

Margaret tilted her head. She didn't expect his answer. 

"You met my daughter but you don't want to tell me? Are you insane?"

"That's right." Calix kept his composure. 

"Calix Romoel, give me a reason why I can't kill you right now. Just because I'm being too good with you doesn't mean that I can't kill you."

Her eyes were shining dangerously. She was not joking. 

"I don't want to tell you because I love you."

"Huh?"

"I love you. So I will never tell you."

Calix was scared that Esmeralda would be heartbroken if she found that her daughter was actually the leader of the Council of Torment. 

"..."

Esmeralda stared at Calix. She could see in his eyes that he was not joking.

"Pfft--haha! Hahahaha!"

Esmeralda started laughing like a crazy woman. 

Suddenly, she jumped on Calix and grabbed her neck. Her Term Attribute didn't work on Calix so she had to use physical strength. 

She clenched his neck but Calix kept his expression. He looked at Esmeralda without fear. 

Esmeralda gritted her teeth and tried to strangle him but Calix didn't flinch. 

"... Damn it! Calix, why are you doing this to me? Why?"

Tears gathered in her eyes. Her tears landed on Calix's face. 

"I'm sorry."

That was the only thing he could do to comfort her. 

"You have to pay for this. Don't think that you can easily leave this place unscathed!"

"I understand."

"Damn it!"

Esmeralda leaned and kissed his lips. She started kissing her angrily, she was mad that she bit her lip. Yet Calix accepted everything that she did. She cried as she melted on him.
