Have you ever seen a kid crying in the public? Crying so loud that she attracted the attention of many people... Well, Sophia was currently doing it right now.
She was crying, lying on the ground, kicking her feet in the air... She looked pitiful to be honest.
However, no matter how much I try to pacify her, Sophia would still cry. She was like an unstoppable wave of water, slowly drowning you.
I tried to approach Sophia but my wife stopped me.
Penelope glanced at me and muttered, "I can handle this."
Well, Penelope had a better experience in terms of babysitting. I'm sure she had a way to convince Sophia to stop crying.
However, what I witnessed was shocking.
Penelope did nothing! She just looked at Sophia, keeping her eyes on her to make sure that Sophia would not do something bad.
Our baby's request was unreasonable. She wanted to return to the province to swim in the sea. I talked to her and tried to convince her that we could swim in the swimming pool instead but Sophia was not happy.
"Waaahhh-- waaahhh--!"
Sophia kept crying and crying... but it didn't take a long time for her to stop.
When Sophia realized that her crying didn't work, she stopped crying.
I was dumbfounded and looked at Penelope.
"That works?"
"Hm. A kid will stop crying once he realized that crying will not solve a thing."
"..."
Was that even a thing?
Is this even the right parenting? Watch your kid cry until she stops.
Considering that it worked on Sophia, I guess this kinda works.
"You're always at work so you didn't know how Sophia use this tactic many times. At first I tried to pacify and soothe her feelings, but it didn't work. So in the end, I just watched her until she stopped crying."
... Okay.
I'm not the mother.
At least Penelope didn't hurt Sophia.
I remembered when I used tantrums in front of my mother, she smiled at me and pinched the fuck out of my skin! That hurts even now even though I'm already a grownup adult.
I know the trouble of stopping a child from crying because I was one of the spoiled brats. In my opinion, Penelope's watching-till-baby-stopped-crying is far more humanized than pinching the soul out of the kid.
"Mommy? Do you wuv me?"
"Aww, of course I love you baby~ It's just I know that you will never stop crying once I gave you my attention."
Penelope carried her and wiped her face. Sophia had tears and snot all over her face.
"... Mommy you bad!"
Sophia pouted. In the end, she didn't bother crying again.
"Well, since we're back in Manila. How about we go to a mall and buy some things for the kid?"
Because I felt bad that Roman and Sophia didn't see the sea, I decided to bring them to the mall.
"Yesh!" Sophia became excited when she heard me.
Roman nodded and Penelope smiled as well.
"You have to carry our belongings though. Are you sure you can do it?" Penelope asked me worriedly.
"Don't worry, I'm confident in myself."
I drank my Energy Pill because I know that this trip would be tiring. Adding a few kilograms would never bother me.
We went to the nearest mall and bought things for the kids. Roman bought coloring sets for his kindergarten.
As for Sophia, we bought her a baby walker to help her practice walking. Once we put her into the baby walker, Sophia became happy because she could walk without any problem.
"Mommy! Look! I don't stumble anymore!"
"My baby is really cute!"
They giggled.
I want to take a picture but I don't have a camera. Hm, I heard that Nokia had a phone with a built-in camera, I wonder how much it costs.
Although I prefer a real camera because it had a higher resolution.
After we ate in a restaurant, we returned to our apartment with content... Only to realize that there was bad news.
Before we could even enter the building, we found that there were people protesting in the streets.
We were confused as we reached the building.
"Penelope, so you have returned."
"Mrs. De Guzman."
We didn't see each other for just two weeks and Mrs. De Guzman aged a lot. It seemed that it was really a piece of bad news.
"Sigh... You have to listen to me."
Listening to what Mrs. De Guzman said, my wife and I had a terrible expression. I touched my wife's hand and assured her.
Apparently, the government issued a road widening and our apartment building was caught in the project. The government promised that every house affected would receive compensation.
"You don't have to worry, they gave us six months to relocate."
"Are you okay Mrs. De Guzman?"
"To be honest, I'm just dissatisfied. What they offer is not equivalent to the whole apartment building. I have to talk to them later to clarify some things. As for you guys... I know a place where you can stay. But the rent will be expensive."
"Thanks, Mrs. De Guzman."
The kids were confused as they watched the people protesting.
When we entered the old apartment, my wife sighed and sat on the sofa.
"Mommy? Awe you okay?"
"Baby, looks like we have to find another place to live."
"Hm." Sophia nodded innocently. She didn't understand what her mother said.
We lived in this apartment for five years and we treat it as our home. Furthermore, it was hard to find another place with cheap rent like this.
Penelope looked at me and smiled. We both smiled, trying to assure each other.
Another ordeal happened to our family.
