Chapter 50

The place was lively green, a plain with grass, and goats eat without a problem. There were chickens and ducks squeaking and quacking, walking around with their small ducklings and chicks.

Corazon and Alberto owned 5 hectares and they sold half of it. Their family usually plant corn so their land was not wet and muddy, unlike rice paddies.

They told us that they wanted to start a chicken farm and a duck farm. A free range at that.

In my opinion, 2.5 hectares were damn well enough. Heck, he could even buy more goats if they wanted to.

Three days already passed after Christmas and our family quickly adjusted to life here in the village. Because this place was called a 'village', there was no entertainment at all.

Even the television in the house was small black-and-white television, Sophia and Roman didn't like black-and-white television so they lost interest in watching. Instead, the kids decided to walk around with Penelope. The village was wide, and full of greeneries.

'As for me... I'm currently digging holes to create a fence around the farm.'

To make sure that chickens and ducks would not escape and would be protected, Alberto bought a metal net fence. The fence was only four feet tall and they were confident that the chickens and ducks would not escape.

Next to me was the youngest child of their family, Santiago.

"I think that's already enough, Brother-in-law."

"Then, let's put the pole."

"Okay."

We put the pole that would be the post to connect the metal net. We filled the hole with soil and made sure that it would not fall.

I wiped my sweat. It was a good thing that I was keeping up with my exercise mission, or else I will never last long. Now, I can see that my stamina improved.

Then, we went to our next destination and I dig a hole again. Just like the process last time, we put another post in a hole and filled it with soil.

Alberto and the others were doing the same job as us. Because their parents announced that they wanted to start rearing chickens and ducks, both sons and husbands, and decided to help. Of course, I was one of the people who volunteered.

'No one would ask for a salary since all of us already received a great amount last time.'

In a way, I'm helping my in-laws because I want to return the favor.

[Ding! Mission Complete]

'What?'

I was confused for a second. However, I recalled that it was already 30 minutes before I started this job.

'Does that mean the doing arduous task like digging holes can be recognized as an exercise?'

Considering that I accomplished the task, I guess it is.

I nodded in satisfaction. I was helping my in-laws out of goodwill, and I received another system point, this is definitely worth it.

"It's my turn now, Brother-in-law."

"Then," I gave the pickaxe to him and wiped my face.

They were farmers so their equipment was mostly related to farming. So we were using pickaxe because they only have one shovel and Alberto was using it.

Well, a pickaxe can do the job too! It can dig into the ground.

"You said that you want to go to college. Are you still sure about that?" I asked Santiago to make the atmosphere better.

"About that... I asked my friends and they said that there was no Electrical Engineering in the city, I have to go to the next if I want to study Electrical Engineering."

"The next city? Penelope said that the next city is quite far."

"Indeed, that's why I'm having hesitation." Santiago started digging the ground. Unlike me who was an amateur, Santiago was much better. He knew the best method of digging.

"Do you have other plans?"

I asked casually.

"Well..." It was clear that he was hesitant to speak. He almost lost his balance in axe picking.

"Just say it. You don't have to be afraid."

"Brother-in-law... Do you think it's better to enroll in the capital instead? I heard that their curriculum is far better than the provinces."

"Heh!" I chuckled.

"Kid, if you want me to be honest, don't believe in what they say. That's not true at all. In my opinion, teaching in the provinces is far better than in the capital. That universities in the capital are nothing but a money sucker."

I have seen graduates from many colleges in the provinces. In my opinion, they were more intelligent and healthy. Penelope is the best example.

She studied in a public high school, yet she was smarter than me who went to a prestigious school. Of course, hard work was a factor too.

'Maybe it's because of the difference in mentality. I didn't study because I feel like I'm gonna inherit the family business.'

"Is that so?" Santiago was shocked when he heard what I said.

'Kid, I'm not lying to you. In my opinion, the capital is nothing but a deep shit, especially in the next two decades.'

"If you want to enroll in the capital, then you can stay with us. But you have to sleep in the living room." I muttered.

"That's..."

"I know, it's obvious that you want to ask me that. You're just hesitant. If you want to, you have to convince Penelope, not me."

"Okay."

Santiago wanted to study in Manila.

'That's a good thing then, I can hire him to work on my upcoming business.'

That was the exact reason why I didn't have a problem letting him live with us because I could have another manpower... I'm not a bad guy, okay?

I don't have any intention of stopping him from going to college. He can work part-time instead, that's good because his salary would be lower. Again, I'm not a bad guy...
