Chapter 46

"Haahh..."

I yawned after a short sleep. The Christmas Eve party last was exhausting, it ended around 3 am. We clearly didn't have enough sleep.

Sophia and Roman didn't even reach midnight to greet Christmas. They quickly fell asleep after eating a delicious meal. Unlike them, Penelope and I stayed up all and night joined the party. We didn't want to be called party poopers, of course, my wife made sure that I didn't touch any alcohol.

Penelope knew the consequences once I got drunk.

I weakly stretched my body after a soft moan. I tell you, there's something good about stretching in the morning. I feel like every fiber in my body is invigorated.

Just as I expected, everyone was still sleeping except for me. Penelope was resting her head on my shoulder and putting her arm on my chest like I'm a pillow.

Fortunately, my right hand was free and I easily grabbed my phone. I checked the time and realized that it was already 8 am... So we basically slept for five hours I guess.

I was still yawning and I feel I don't have any will to stand up. So I close my eyes again and hugged my wife.

"Mm."

She muttered in her sleep as I put my arms around her. She smells nice and her body is soft. How can a person be fragile and soft like this!?

We stayed like that for a few minutes when a noise came from outside.

"Jingle bell, jingle bell, jingle all the way~"

"Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one-horse open sleigh, hey!"

"Jingle bells, jingle bells

Jingle all the way

Oh what fun it is to ride

In a one-horse open sleigh"

The neighborhood kids started singing Christmas songs in front of the house.

"Hm?"

Penelope gradually woke up because of the noise. She looked at me and weakly smiled.

"Merry Christmas."

"Merry Christmas."

We greeted each other. Her face was so close, she licked her lips and then... pushed me away.

"Looks like the kids are singing."

She stood up and looked out of the window. She saw kids with their brand new clothes, clanging their own made musical instruments.

"Merry Christmas kids!"

We heard the door opening and Corazon greeted the kids. It seemed that she gave the kids nice Christmas gifts because they excitedly thanked her.

"Thanks, Grandma Corazon! Merry Christmas!"

"Come on, let's go to the next house!"

The kids in this village knew each other. There were only 50+ houses in the village and each had a distance from the other.

Corazon laughed heartily and decided to let the door open. A few minutes later, I started hearing movements inside the house.

Because of the Christmas carols earlier, the other families realized that it was already morning.

Even Roman woke up.

"Mom... I want to eat cake."

I almost chuckled when I heard his response. It seemed that Roman fell in love with the black forest cake last night.

"Oh sweetheart, we will buy it once we get to the city again. Don't worry, we will stay till the new year and you will have the time to eat it again."

She approached her son and wiped the dirt from his eyes... By the way, what do you call the built-up fluid around the eyes after a good sleep, is it eye goober or sleepy dust?

"Thanks, Mom."

Roman was easily reconciled.

"I promised Billy and the others that I will join today. We are going to sing Christmas carols to each house to earn money."

Here in the Philippines, kids will receive money every Christmas. They can casually sing in front of a stranger's house and they will receive money.

Christmas was an important part of their lives because kids will receive a lot of money to buy toys.

'I remembered when I was a child, I asked Uncle for a Christmas gift and he gave me remote control car... Now that I think about it, that's kinda cheap considering that Uncle owns a Tire Company and Repair Shops.'

'I should have asked for a remote control helicopter toy.'

Heck, if I asked, maybe he would give me a real car.

I was the youngest child in the family and both my grandparents dote me. Perhaps that was the reason why I grew up being an arrogant spoiled person.

I understood it very well.

Roman wiped his sweat, changed his attire, and excitedly ate the remaining food.

"Roman, make sure that you will stay with your cousins. Don't run away from them. They know this place more than you. And don't enter the field, sometimes there are snakes there."

Snakes? I'm afraid of snakes!

"Yes, Mom."

Roman nodded seriously. He knew that his mother would be mad once she found that Roman didn't obey her orders. Especially entering the fields... I don't like snakes at all.

I can face rats and insects but snakes are different beings. Let's hope that's not a foreshadowing because God damn.

Roman's cousins knocked on the door and asked for Roman. Our son happily greeted them with merry Christmas and followed them out of the house.

"Roman, remember what I told you. Stay with your cousins."

"Yes, I will Mom."

He waved his hand and walked away together with his cousins.

"Do you want coffee, Honey? I'll get down and make you a coffee if you want."

"Thanks, Honey, I like it black," I answered.

"I don't know how can you like something bitter as that." She frowned.

"Hey, who's the one who drank coffee rice last time? In my opinion, that's more bitter and tasteless." I chuckled.

"Humph! I get you bread too. I think there's a leftover bread in the kitchen."

"It's in the closet."

Today was Christmas and the kids were having the best day of their lives. As for us, adults, this day was our rest day. Especially after an all-night-long party.
