Time passed and evening came. They already cooked all of the dishes and prepared the tables too.
Keith and Penelope helped Corazon and Alberto set the plates. The goat, duck, chicken, and pork dishes were on the table and ready to feast on.
The kids were excited as they saw a two-layer cake in the middle of the table. Even though they haven't eaten black forest cake in their entire life, they knew that the cake was delicious.
"I only saw a big cake like this television..." One of them muttered and the others agreed.
"Simeon, you bought this cake?" Corazon glanced at his son.
"Yes, Mother. There was a bakery in the city that sells cake and I ordered this cake two days."
"So you're confident that you will have money and already ordered this cake. What if we didn't get the money yesterday, what will you do?"
"Mother, I have money. I can afford a cake like this once in a while." Simeon shrugged.
Everyone had money and they could buy a lot of things if they wanted. Corazon and Alberto decided to use their own money to put food on the table. They didn't ask their children to provide and contribute, they were the parents and it was their responsibility to feed their children, although everyone was already an adult.
In fact, only Simeon and Penelope had bought food to contribute for Christmas Eve.
Simeon bought the big two-layer cake while Penelope's side bought Edam Cheese (Queso De Bola), Ham, and Fruits.
As for the other families, they didn't think of contributing because they know that their parents just received a million pesos.
"Okay, it's already ten-thirty. Let's eat now." Corazon clapped her hands.
"Let's pray for grace before eating." She added and started praying.
"Let's eat!"
The kids, like hungry uncomfortable beasts, started asking their parents what they want to eat. Most of them wanted to eat the cake, cheese, and fruits. Even the adults were fighting over the sweet stuff.
A few minutes later, the cake and cheese already lost 2/3 of its size.
"Mommy, I want to eat cake too."
"Me too, Mom."
"Don't worry, your Dad is already slicing cake and cheese for you guys."
Keith Castillo approached them with a big plate filled with dishes and fruits.
"This is for the kids, I will get another for the both of us," Keith said after putting the plate in front of the kids.
The dishes on the plate were too many and both parents know that Sophia and Roman could never eat all of them. Whenever there was food left, Keith Castillo would eat them.
Wasting food was a sin. Many people are starving right now and having food on the table was a blessing.
After another round of taking food, Keith returned with two plates for himself and his wife.
The atmosphere was lively and everyone was taking their time eating these delicious delicacies.
It didn't take a long time for the cake and fruits to disappear. There were almost fifty people in the house and every one of them wanted to eat.
"Tch, Simeon why didn't you buy another cake? Look what happened, the cake's already gone and I haven't even tasted it yet!"
Señorita glared at her brother, gritting her teeth in madness. The family was poor and eating cake was almost impossible, of course, Señorita wanted to eat it.
"I'm sorry, sister."
"Tch! Once I bought my own cake, don't ever try to ask me for a slice."
"You're never gonna give me one anyway."
Simeon whispered while eating. Everyone knows that Señorita was the cheapskate of them all. She would rather ask their parents for food than use her money.
"Señorita, I'm warning you. Tomorrow is Christmas, don't waste it playing poker and mahjong. You will only lose your money playing gamble."
"Mother I'm already old. I don't need your lessons, I know what I'm doing."
Señorita loved gambling and she usually lost her money playing. In fact, her husband was the one who encouraged her to play. He said that gambling released stress. Kinda bullshit.
Señorita's husband was a farmer and works on their farm. Now that they received money, Señorita and her husband decided to go to the city and live there. They can live in the wet market since Señorita was selling vegetables there.
"Dad, look."
While the Christmas Eve party was ongoing, Roman found someone sulking in the corner.
A young boy was wiping his tears. He was holding a broken beyblade, almost as if he lost his loved ones.
"Is that Billy?"
Billy, Señorita's son, was weeping in sadness.
"Hey Billy, what happened to you? Why are you crying?"
Penelope was concerned about her young nephew. Billy was the same age as Roman but he was smaller and thinner, almost as if his parents never feed him right.
"A- Auntie Penelope... Sniff sniff... Wwuuuu, Mother destroyed my Beyblade." He was heartbroken.
"Why did she do that?"
"Hick... Hick... I don't know."
"Here, let's eat first. Sophia had a leftover cake, you can eat it. Don't worry, it's not dirty."
"Thank you, Auntie..."
The boy started eating while weeping with tears. Penelope worriedly rubbed his head.
"Hey, Billy! You didn't say that you have a cake! Give it to me. I'm your mother, I didn't taste it earlier. Come!"
Señorita glared at her son.
"Yes..." Billy looked down and approached her awkwardly.
"Humph!"
Penelope and Keith watched the whole scene and they didn't know how to respond. Señorita was being unbelievable right now.
Unfortunately, Keith and Penelope were just the Auntie and Uncle. It would only be detrimental to talk to Señorita knowing that the woman and a grumpy attitude.
Keith whispered something to Roman.
"Roman, I remember that we bought a Yo-yo for Billy. Give it to him tomorrow, but make sure that Señorita will not see it."
"Yes, Dad."
