Chapter 39
This house had two bathrooms. It sounds amazing but these two bathrooms were not enough for almost 50 people to use, especially when time was constrained.
"I don't feel good at all..."
Penelope muttered next to me. She felt icky because she didn't take a shower yesterday and today. She only washed her hair and wiped her skin.
"It's fine," I leaned closer and smelled her neck. My nose grazed her skin. "You smell nice."
"Keith Castillo! Don't ever do that again!" My wife pushed me away and I chuckled.
"I'm not lying. You smell nice."
"Humph!" She snorted and fixed her hair. She combed her hair and looked in the mirror.
"Mommy, so gowgeous!" Sophia put her arms on her Mother's lap. She just finished washing her face. Her hair is tied in twin tails.
Penelope fixed her appearance first before taking of herself. After all, Sophia was the hardest one to wash because she loved moving.
"How sweet of my baby~"
"Hehe."
"How about you Roman? Are you okay wearing just like that?" I turned to my son. Roman was wearing a t-shirt and pants. But he didn't wear shoes, he preferred using slippers ( chancla).
To be honest, he looked comfortable. I wanted to wear slippers but I would enter the bank later and it would be awkward to wear slippers inside the bank.
At least you should have proper attire when entering the bank.
What? There's no policy like that? So you expect me to go to the bank, and showed up with nothing but boxer briefs and slippers, expecting that people would not look at me?
'I might as well wear my shoes.'
In this country, we comfortably used slippers inside the house. Even outside the house, we preferred slippers instead of shoes.
"I'm all good Dad. I don't want to wear shoes, I feel like my feet can't breathe."
When did feet have a mouth to breathe? Did they have their own lungs too or something?
"We already talked to Brother Simeon. Before 6:30, we should be outside and waiting for him."
Penelope checked her face in the mirror. She was thinking of using a bit of blush-on but she decided not to.
'Honey you don't have to worry. You're always beautiful. You don't need make-up at all.'
In my opinion, Penelope was born to become the Miss Universe. She had a natural beauty that make-up could not replicate.
Her long eyelashes. Her red eyes. Her soft supple skin that I want to kiss every day. She is perfect in my opinion.
"Everyone prepared?" She looked at us.
"Yes, Mommy." Sophia waved her hands around.
"Hm, the money is here. I already counted them and they are 115 thousand. I left the 4 thousand for us to use." I answered when my wife glanced at me.
"Then, let's go."
We came out of the room. When we went down, the others greeted us with a smile on their faces.
"Sophia, you're so cute!"
"Thank you!"
One of the aunties touched Sophia's hand. I understood it very well. My daughter's hands were soft and small, they were adorable.
"We will return early to help."
Penelope talked to her mother.
"Take your time. This is the first time you return to Dagupan after three years, you can look around. You don't have to worry about us. Besides, your Father and I will go to the city later too. We will hire a tricycle once we finished killing the goats." Corazon replied.
Only Simeon had a tricycle in the family but their neighbors had a tricycle and they could ask them for a ride.
Life in the village was about helping others and receiving help. The neighborhood support each other.
"Then, we will bring Christmas gifts later." Penelope insisted.
"You don't have to."
The pair of mother and daughter bantered gently while we were waiting for Simeon.
When the tricycle arrived, we bid farewell and entered the tricycle.
Then, we witnessed the beautiful scenery as we traveled. Roman was looking at the river, he was interested in swimming there.
"The river is cold in the morning, I recommend you to swim at noon so you don't get cold."
Penelope talked to her son. It is probably based on her experience. She grew up here after all.
"Maybe I can help you fish eels and fishes. I'm quite good at fishing." Their Uncle Simeon joined in.
"Eels?" Sophia was confused.
"You haven't seen an eel, Sophia? They are delicious. They are long and slippery. Sometimes they will be mistaken as snakes but they are not venomous."
"... Eww." She muttered.
It seemed that our baby didn't like eels at all.
We laughed seeing her reaction. In my past life, I had eaten an eel on some occasions. They have a soft yet firm texture. Somehow they reminded me of lobster, maybe it was just me.
A few minutes later, we reached the national road. Our destination was the city next to us.
Unlike the buildings in Manila, the tallest building in the city was just seven-storey. This place might be called a 'city' but it was not that type of city.
However, unlike the capital city of the Philippines. This place had better air.
'Manila's air pollution is terrible. So this place is far better.'
Seeing new places, the children were excited as they looked around.
"Kids, let's play after going to the bank. You must behave, or else we will return quickly and I will not allow you to play."
"Yes, Mommy!"
"Yes."
Just like that, Penelope convinced the kids to be good.
We talked to Simeon and we decided to meet at the city hall at 10 am.
"It's almost 7:30, perhaps the bank is already opened."
"If the bank is still not open, maybe we can go find a restaurant and eat while waiting."
"Yeah, let's do that."
