Tenner in my pocket Cornwall (PART 2)

Comments

Can't thank you enough, Tom, for my favorite entertainment. Such a gay(happy) spark ignites in me when I get an email you've uploaded. If you don't mind me asking, (maybe you've answered but I've missed it) why no hot drinks? A Mormon Brit? Or health related?

Jack Ross

Italy is beckoning i think..

tom davies

That headlock technique was sick and so funny! And I would deffo be interested in seeing some pirate exploration (or the pirate thing you mentioned)

Edward

Loved this one, from Porthpean onwards you’re on the route of a coast path run that some guys called Mud Crew put on in August, I’ve been a long this coast path and through these villages numerous times, but to see a bit of the real everyday life of these places puts them in a whole new light. I’ll keep an eye out for Helen next time I’m on the way through Mevagissey!

Stephen Burr

Show us the loot!

Christine Monahan

Another cracking vid Tom. I love the whole journey and the stories that arise organically from yours (and others) shenanigans.

Stuart Duncan

Nice job on the video! This is a top tier series. Maybe the next one could be somewhere continental?

TJ

LOVED the description of how you used the bottle cap to fill your water bottle. Had me cackling. Love this vid and this series!

Matthew Fossum

absolutely loved the video and generally the vibe of the tenner in my pocket adventures keep it up Tom :)

Benjamin

Would love to see you do one of these in Scotland! or in Italy I feel like people would be really accommodating and have lots of stories to tell!

Zac Vernon

He just made it public it on YouTube. You must have caught it in limbo. It's up now.

Kevin Tabb

Video just gone private?

Fxshire

This is without a doubt the best video series on YouTube.

Metalkiddo

A piece of advice for your next adventure - bring the Collins Gem Mushrooms pocket book with you. It's tiny so shouldn't add much weight, and gives you enough information to do some basic mushroom foraging as a beginner. Also check out Wild Food UK on YouTube :)

Ed Shelton

That chicken of the woods find was incredible. Can confirm with 100% certainty that that was definitely the real deal (I've been a big mushroom forager for a few years). There are no poisonous lookalikes in the UK, so as long as it's not been pissed on or next to a busy motorway, you're good! The outer rim of each lobe will always be more fresh, but the specimen you found looked fresh all over to me. Great vid Tom!

Ed Shelton

I'm not sure, it was a random guy I saw who retrieved it. It looked pretty clean (as did he!) and he seemed pretty proud of himself, so I think it was in pretty decent shape! If you're ever down this way again, I'd happily help with "plan pub" or anything you need assistance with 🤜

Grant Kennett

Brilliant! Entertaining, inspiring but somehow relaxing content, absolutely love it 👍 would love to see more of these types of adventures! It's also making me want to do something similar next summer!

George Lunn

tracks by Bert Jansch and the Stone temple pilots - licenses obtained from Lickd

tom davies

I just chopped it up to make it sound instrumental!

tom davies

That's insane! bravo for retrieving it. Was it as dirty as i suspected?

tom davies

I will do just that"

tom davies

I haven't mate but I'll check that out!

tom davies

This is amazing! I've been to Cornwall years ago and these videos make me want to go back there and have my own little adventure! Great work!

Mattis Rinsche

Absolutely loved these videos!

Abbie

Love these Tom! I think it's your best series since How not to Travel, excited to see more in the future!

Ben Silver

I can't tell if this is a bit or not.

Ben Silver

I wonder if you could get sponsored by a tourist board somewhere (in the UK or elsewhere) to do similar videos. I've been resisting moving back to the UK for a while now but these videos make cornwall look like a pretty good option...

Alex Parr

Just love it , this is my style of content , keep up the adventure videos Tom!!

Dan

Lovely two episodes. I did know nothing about Cornwall. But it seems to be such a beautiful place. Definitely put it on my list of places to visit. Cheers mate

Albreax

Brilliant video once again. Love the adventures you come up with and your approach to them.

Paul Bragg

Not sure Tom’s baby and a mollusk are comparable, ridiculous comment

Will Fairman

Love these Tom, and I wonder if you've read Samuel Beckett's Molloy? Much of it is about wandering aimlessly down country roads, and it's something that lives on in my memory every time I'm doing the same, even a quarter of a century after I read it.

James M Errington

I'm from cornwall this is giving every nostalgia hit i ever wanted on a sunday love the series sm

Scarlett

Got my shitty beer and looking forward to this adventure. Call it escapism , but there’s something really calming about these videos. Thanks Tom

Mac Eckstrand

I respect your concern and your opinion but please stop referring to Tom's child like this. It is not appropriate.

Damien Fenton

A life is a life? You're killing microscopic living things every day. You can't avoid it. If all life is equal, the best thing a person could do is kill oneself immediately - now I would never suggest that because I value more complex organisms higher than single-cell organisms, or organism without a central nervous system, or organisms that only have very simple reptile brains. Listen, I'm not trying to harrass you. But just try to engage honestly with this thought for a second. You were the one who suggested I should educate myself, and I agree with that sentiment (I'm a teacher by profession). But again, if killing a mollusk is EQUAL to killing a human child, how is killing a dustmite or a mosqueto by just moving around in the world not also a heinous act? I'm not just trying to win this argument, I honestly want to know what you think about this.

Johannes Wiberg

If you are gonna do the kayak thing, take Uncle Ed with ya

Ewoud van Aalst

I admire that you are standing up for your beliefs. But birds and rats eat mollusks alive. If humans didn't exist, there would still be a massive amount of animal death, pain and suffering due to predators eating their prey. That happens daily worldwide. Aside from the cooking part which is necessary for food safety, Tom didn't really do anything that isn't done by animals to each other. As I said, nothing wrong though with voicing your concerns, but bringing Tom's child into the argument is out of order in my opinion.

Damien Fenton

Is there actually any extra information in the subtitles? Great series, loving it. I'd love to see you and Greg depart on an adventure together again. You guys have such a strong bond. Liebe Grüße aus Deutschland

Jean Voyage

40 minutes in honestly some of the best content Ive ever seen on youtube. Such a great a adventure and perfectly captures how amazing and interesting life can be if you just keep pushing yourself that one step out of your comfortzone.

Joseph Alfasi

Cracking video mate!

Theodor Hübel

Perhaps I shouldn't get into this but... Mollusks do not have brains, and the organisms would not "experience" anything in any way similar to human-like creatures. The scientific research on whether there is anything similar to "pain" is unclear, the most affirmative statement I could find was, paraphrasing, that "we don't know but we ought not to harm them unneccessarily" (SOURCE: https://academic.oup.com/ilarjournal/article-pdf/52/2/185/6763941/ilar-52-185.pdf) while other scientists claim more conclusively that they do not feel pain (SOURCE: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6088194/) . So while I haven't "done my research" since I'm not a scientist, I have looked into it, and I would personally NOT claim that putting them in a fire where they die in a matter of seconds is anything REMOTELY as cruel as keeping pigs in ridiculously small enclosures for their entire lives just to sell people cheaper pork chops. BUT, if you saw Tom eat pork chops, you probably would complain, would you? Even if the animal cruelty behind that act is MASSIVELY worse. Pigs are as smart as dogs and cats, while mollusks are similar to worms. Again, I appreciate your stance, but don't lash out just because the imagery is disturbing to you. Think about what is actually taking place, and compare it to what else is happening in our society. If you don't want to watch it because it upsets you, that very understandable. But calling Tom "cruel" and comparing it to cooking his baby alive is just ridiculous - unless you also threaten to unsubscribe every time anyone eats meat of any kind. Being vegan is great - being inconsistent and rude is not.

Johannes Wiberg

My hubby and I were lucky enough to spend a few weeks driving around Cornwall in 2018. We travelled from Australia just to have an extended British pub crawl! This is such a cool series Tom, thank you so much for making our favourite YouTube content. Stoked to see part 1 has so many views. Geodetective is also amazing but whatever you upload is a great night for us.🍺🇦🇺🍷🍻

Sherridan Lee

Thought this was a brilliant series and hope you do more of them! Sad for it to end!

Gemma Morris

good stuff tom. would love to see you do a walking video with marek larwood/cooldudeswalkingclub.

alan doyle

so sad to see it come to an end!!

Ryun Rich

Gutted it’s over to be honest, even my dad loves these videos. Heart warming and reminiscent of my childhood.

Huw Ramsay

Loved this adventure. Mostly because I live in Cornwall and have walked the whole coast path so I recognise so much of what you did. But it was also great to see you get so far with so little. If you ever return and make it as far as Penzance let me know and I'll donate a loaf of bread to help you along 😄

Kieren Jordan

Sea Kayak foraging and exploring vid sounds great

Imraduin

Excellent series. I've had a couple of holidays in the Mevagissey area, so it was good to see it again. As an idea for a future adventure how about combining previous ones. So a bit of real life Geoguesser, then once you've found out where you are on a physical map (so no Googling or other digital maps) make your way to a predetermined goal through any means in set amount of time, but with only a tenner in your pocket!

Simon Skittrell

You should ask LoveSundays Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lovesundays84/ for some places to go and look for loot

marc parry

I really love this series, Tom. I'm gonna try to be netural and give some feedback: I would have loved some more details about the argument and the other adventures with your "kooky friend" - but I do understand the decision there to protect people's privacy. This "tenner in my pocket" concept is just perfect IMO, it's less strict than a straight line mission but it gives the adventure a central thread, while both inciting you to connect with people, and giving you freedom to do what you feel like and seek out adventure opportunistically. A good mix between nature shots and path walking on the one side, and meeting people and pub crawling on the other side, makes for great varied content.

Johannes Wiberg

I appreciate your stance on not killing, but calling anyone cruel for accidentally spoiling food is a bit much. Perhaps you're vegan, but many very nice people burn their chicken or let a piece of fish go bad in the fridge - that's far from being cruel, but it's also wasting something that was living. Mollusks don't have don't have brains so even if you could claim that they can feel pain, it's far from what a pig or a chicken feels, and you wouldn't call someone cruel for wasting a pork chop. This is less indirect, but I laud anyone who actually gathers their food and sees the entire process, which might seem more cruel than "getting your meat from the shop" but is in fact often more responsible and certainly more insightful.

Johannes Wiberg

I can reassure you that the blue tent you saw below the footbridge near Spit Beach did get taken! I live locally and saw it en route to the beach, and then saw a guy walking away with it back to the car park! For a brief moment watching this, I thought it might've been you I saw taking it! Gutted to have missed you whilst you were passing through - great videos!

Grant Kennett

Laura Newton

Definitely enjoying these videos and seeing your adventures. I'd would love to see a kayaking one

Christa

Great video! I love the tenner in my pocket videos, and would be cool to see Wales or Scotland featured. One suggestion is that you could make a bucket list of tasks you want to do or see on the trip, eg cook seafood, and get a pint by a local.

Daniel

I'm all for watching you kayak around the Cornwall area searching for pirate treasure!

Jan Are Melgård

Loved the series. Better than the first one imo. I personally would like to see more interaction with locals. Makes for interesting stories. Liked the bloke who told you all about his village. That was great. Its just stories on top of all the walking and finding food (which is also great, don't get me wrong).

Missie

Really enjoyed this, Tom. Your knack for ‘finding the adventure’ never seems to fail. I love long distance trail walking, so this was right up my street. I’d happily watch you documenting more long distance trails, £10 budget or not!

Tom Hughes

Another great video, any way you could point me in the direction of where you found the instrumental version of Bert Jansch's running from home?

Ben

Possibly your best series yet. I think a good place for another one of these would be Lancaster PA Amish country (the place you tried to find an Amish person in HNTTA). Lots of nice countryside and small towns.

BP Gaming 175

I really love these easygoing adventures. And you could be doing these almost anywhere. I think you should ask people for water. Running out of water makes me really anxious.

Christian Weber

Tom you have a real art for storytelling, it's fully what makes these videos so good. I reckon you could film a trip to tesco and make it into a riveting half hour video.

Max Jones

And yes to pirate loot!

RHYS

Never seen anyone eat fish & chips like that.

RHYS

Definitely would like to see some exploring for pirate loot! Would make for a great video.

Dom T

My weekend can now truly begin!!

Dustin Geddes

You could do a tenner in my pocket on the Isle of Skye

exploring with ashley

Never thought I would want to go to Britain for but after this series I want to go to Cornwall

SchnarcheNoah

Looking forward to this! Thanks! Great series, this.

Michael Springer

Hey Tom. Loving this new tenner series as I live down here also. I have a friend who explores old tin mines and thought that would be up your street. Happy to organise a meeting if it’s something you’d be interested in.

Ryan Hopewell

Who does the guitar music on these Tom?

Geoff Bushill

Family duties over everything!

Charlie Psillas

Havent even watched it yet but I bet it's another banger of a vid!

Stefan Hakso

Gwych! Excellent timing

RHYS

The first part was brilliant 🤩 Are we recording?

Bjørn Ravnås

Edit: Thoroughly enjoyed this episode too, Tom! Thank you for continuing to create great content. Kettle on! So excited 😁

Marte Kjelsberg

Home from a nice 3pm kickoff FA Cup first round game, dinner made, and geowizard posts. What a Saturday 👍
