The Devizes to Westminster kayak race is probably not going to happen this year due to the realisation that training for it would require a ridiculous amount of dedication and time, something that doesn't fit with our busy schedules. However, me and Ed were keen to get out on the water again for another adventure. Last time we bravely ventured out into the slimy canals of the black country where violent youths were the main threat. This time, in the peace and quiet of the Staffordshire countryside between the village of Hopwas and the Brewing town of Burton, there would be no such problem. What we did need to be wary of this time was falling into the icy waters of the rivers Tame and Trent, fast moving waters that our racing kayak isn't really designed to navigate.
This humorous jaunt down these seldom paddled rivers offered an interesting perspective of the countryside and some of it's hidden historic treasures, including an old flour mill that refused to let us leave the river without a fight!
We plan to film a "MAN VS KAYAK" video down this same stretch, with Ed in the kayak and me battling my way through the countryside in a bid to beat him to Burton for a crisp pint from the Brewery! What do you reckon, is that something you'd like to see?
