I've saved the best till last.. Black Country No Roads Mission [PART 3]

PATREONS:

Here is the final episode. Few things to say to accompany it..

Firstly, I've had to put adverts on this one because I'm going abroad tomorrow (hence the early release also)  and can only place ads on my computer. Hope you don't mind too much.

Secondly, and I definitely should have told you this, but there will be no bonus footage for this series. The edit on this one was such (3 episodes for one day) that it left very little by way of decent unused clips.

$4 Patreons can expect to see the next instalment in the London to Budapest story series next week when I return from my Algarve golfing stag do (never even played golf till last week so that should be interesting) ..and I'm also going to make a video in which I go through all my 16 bit adventure tracks and talk about the inspiration for each one.

There's so much more lined up for the rest of the year too of course.

Finally, THANK YOU ALL for signing up and supporting me. You are such a big part of why I'm still able to do these crazy adventures. How not to travel America is going to have a BIG budget, and it would not be possible without Patreon, so thanks again everyone for being such an integral part of this channel!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and here it is.. once again, the subtitles might come in very useful at times.

While this might be the final episode of this cretinous urban adventure, but with over half of it's total distance still remaining and a fair share of obstacles to go with it, the fun is far from over.

You re-join me at the most pivotal moment in the mission - the tram construction site in southern Wednesbury. At some point my claustrophobic wait for the gates to open will come to an end. Will I be able to run past the security? or will I have to search for another way round?

Later obstacles include an old flooded Victorian tunnel and two of the sketchiest fences of the mission, all of which will slow my desperately dehydrated figure down even more. The result is an anxious final mission through the famous black country living museum, in an increasingly unlikely bid to reach the gates of Dudley zoo before they close..

Speaking of Dudley zoo, whether I made it there or not, it's a fantastic place. Check out all the animals and activities they have on offer! https://www.dudleyzoo.org.uk/plan-your-visit/zoo-map/

Mate... If that electric fence were working and you got shocked right above that spiky fence... Would have been gruesome.

I think she knows that by now

Yeah, the essence of the challenge to me is that most of the time when you walk through an urban area you are walking along roads. You don't walk along private sites in that situation so it subverts from the norm regardless of if there's a road there.

If it's private property (which it clearly is cos of the gate etc) then it's not a road. Not a fail.

Great adventure, you do worry me getting over some of those fences though, would hate to see you come to any real harm.

Don't do it Verity !! The bloke is a Nutter !!

That gate you snuck through was the staff car park for the Metro so I wouldn't class it as a road . I used to work there before I got a job driving trains 👍

Awesome mission, mate. Cheers to your girl, who seems to be the anchor of all your work.

Wait, YOUR Stag do? Have you popped the question to Verity (or someone else!) and I've missed it?

To me, the 'No Roads' rule is just nice a way of formalising the true spirit of the Mission, which I think is really to get from A-B off the beaten (drivable?) path. Even though you went on a road briefly at the tram site, it's not publicly accessible to drive or walk on, so I feel like it's not cheating in the spirit of Missioning. Other kinds of roads which I reckon are OK are roads in construction sites, private car parks, driveways, or roads which are normally illegal to walk on. Like it would be fucked, but I reckon if you had to walk on the M6 for a bit, I might even still count it because of the pure madness of it. With the straight line missions and with this, I really enjoy the discussion around 'the rules', because it makes people think about what actually constitutes a proper adventure. Ultimately with this one, you avoided prescribed routes the whole way, and explored new spots you'd otherwise not have discovered, so we gotta deem it a success!

*Has a pint and a bag of pork scratchings; runs to a zoo in full camo* “I just don’t know why I’m so dehydrated?”
