GeoWizard Shorts - I need your help

I'll be making some top tier GeoWizard shorts (short clips) on YouTube and I'd very much like your help with ideas for clips, titles or even thumbnails.

The clips will be anything from 5 to 20 seconds(ish), but the idea is to make them short, sweet and to the point. I also want to them to be classy, not cringey or clickbaity, and with their own distinct style of humour that reflects me and my channel. When I have enough, they'll be trickled out onto a separate, brand new channel called "GeoWizard Shorts" so as to keep everything uncluttered and organised.

The clips will be plucked from both the real life stuff, and the geoguessr stuff. As long as it's funny, (Buongiorno Island) shocking/scary, (Peat bog) impressive (Insane guess) or just interesting or remarkable, (some mad thing I stumble across in some random game of geoguessr) then it could make the grade. Whatever the clip is though, it will need a good title to compliment it. The title is key. It must be quite short and to the point, draw the viewer in and make them want to click, but also remain humble and not too clickbaity. So far I'm thinking along the lines of: "Welsh Greg greets an entire village and butchers the Italian language" or "GeoWizard almost drowns himself in peat bog" but maybe some of you guys can come up with something better. I'm hoping you know my humour well enough to have a stab and enjoy yourselves in the process.

In terms of the Geoguessr content, I'm hoping that some of you have a favorite moment that you remember from a certain video, a funny one liner, an awkward moment, something unusual we found whilst scrolling the streets, a bad sentence taken out of context (within reason) and of course, your favorite insane guess.
If you know the video and it's not too much trouble to find it, simply comment the link, a time stamp of the clip and a title if you so wish. If you can't think of a good title, just explain roughly what happens.

If you don't have time or can't be arsed, that's totally fine. Even if a handful of you reply I'd be over the moon. I get that you have your own lives. On the flip side, if you're super eager and I'm really impressed by your clip/title combos, I would be happy to come to an arrangement where I pay you for your efforts going forward.

Finally, I'll be posting this publicly on YouTube at some point in the near future, but I just thought I'd ask you guys first, as any ideas I end up using will credit your name in the description.

I'll look forward to hearing whatever ideas you may have, thanks for your time.

Tom :)

I think “insane guesses” would make great shorts

The “is that a cock” incident from one of your Geoguessr videos comes to mind.

Perefect!

Ethan Brier

Would love to see something satirical related to Wetherspoons. That series has been excellent, and it’s always fun to see the folks outside.

All your impressions. Love the bear grylls one especially

I would already enjoy a compilation of you running from ambulances or police cars crashing your video's audio. Not sure if there's already enough of that, however. My title would be along the lines of "GeoWizard's magic backfires" - too clickbaity maybe...

Also do some from Ludwig and Cody Ko's videos with you (might need permission though)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JSBNJT-tu4&t=1120s No clue what the title could be for this, but this whole series is filled with great content

"Get in!" compilation, although that would end up being too long.

Yes TikTok would be much better for this type of content

Josette Reynolds

I would say uploading them to tiktok would be a better than good idea, tiktok is expressly made for 10-20 seconds clips and has huge reach if you crqcknthe algorithm, you can get millions of views in a very short period

Tom Cooney

I think the first clip of the police siren where you stop playing geoguessr and run off camera 😂

Tom Cooney

accent compilation - (welsh, scottish, etc...)

"Happy Birthday from India" @ 3:39 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwT0GuES85I

Steven Hocker

Try Tiktok for shorts - to reach new audiences, and don’t faff by setting up a new channel from scratch. That’s my Ill-informed advice anyway.

"Tom meets the Bin Lady" @ 9:20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3B72lu2WdEo

I liked that moment in a fairly recent GeoGuessr video where you misguessed Strasbourg because it looked so German and mumbled "perhaps they should give it back?¯_(ツ)_/¯"

I think the peat bog clip should be called 'How To Touch The Centre of The Earth'. Sort of dry sarcasm the channels known for, but married with the absurdness of popular YouTube shorts

Great submissions, got a good laugh!

Markus Schumacher

This is a lesser appreciated mission moment, but it's what hooked me on the channel: "Geowizard Catches Tourettes": https://youtu.be/kwzIwFPEGbA?t=1268 Here are some more: "EH LA TOM" https://youtu.be/cBxPAdVBzSE?t=328 "How They Give Directions in Wales" https://youtu.be/dv1X37r_NkY?t=2235 "Brit Explains The Black Country" https://youtu.be/BuZ-ld13p1I?t=460 "Africa Comes Thick and Fast" https://youtu.be/Fdv4jcJrLkY?t=83 "ABBA Bank" https://youtu.be/NsUjPBgFJGw?t=445 There's also one that I can't find where Tom over-pronounces the word "Buurminghm" and then says something like "why do we do that?". I would title it "Brit Becomes Self Aware". I might add to this list. I hope Tom sees it

https://youtu.be/fw-yGI9n7Ok?t=2318 - A bloke called Ross stole GeoWizard's ladder https://youtu.be/fw-yGI9n7Ok?t=1979 - GeoWizard laughing with the Scottish cops about rugby https://youtu.be/_iaRV_31uJ4?t=66 - GeoWizard doesn't know much about phones https://youtu.be/BuZ-ld13p1I?t=463 - GeoWizard admiring drunk Brits A few ones I found. Sorry if I'm too late for this but I'd appreciate if you could take a look.

Would this be for inside jokes for regular viewers or stuff for a more general audience that could go a bit “viral”?

I really want to see how Dean, 22, Walsall is doing. "Dean reviews Adventure Food pack" would be incredible.

I remember you got Beirut on Geoguessr once and you said something that had me pissing myself with laughter. Can't find the video though.

Based on what I've seen that has been successful on the channels I subscribe; whilst you can create original content, its also really useful to use as a highlights reels. So including some of your insane guesses — I think a short of an insane guess backed up with a 5-10 seconds of your thought process not only has a pull for new people but it then adds an additional element for your existing audience too.

Chris Colouryum

EVERYONE: thanks so much for your ideas. There are some great ones here. I shall now sift through them all and log them all down in a word document. Peace!

tom davies

A 20 second montage of you having a pint in every Whetherspoons in the UK 😉

Rob the Nog

Great idea, I surely have a few highlights from some of your videos. I suggest you create a Google Forms (or alike) where we can enter the video link, timestamp(s), title suggestion, short comment if useful and our email address. This way there is a place to maintain it long term as sort of an "inbox" for you and your viewers.

Markus Schumacher

Your kayak over the lake looks triumphant- do that

Sparky

I've got bugger all in the way of clip ideas, but I can say this about the titles - *Don't think too hard about it.* As long as it kind of makes sense and has a few eye-catching words it'll do well. My first (and only) successful video used the phrase "disintegrates at the thought of". I don't really know what that means myself but the view count says it didn't matter...

That Eswatini guess has to be an all time favourite

First 6:39, THEN 10:34 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ5xYrb28Bo&t=591s

Your end to the Norway run on the football pitch is pretty great. From the beginning of this clip until about 34:30 shows you climbing fences and going through a yard without revealing where it was in the trip or if you finished. I think it shows a cool highlight of the trip with a taste of action to finish it. https://youtu.be/kwzIwFPEGbA?t=1976

A thumbnail will have to be a screen grab of a particular scene in one of the Wales missions (don’t recall which episode off the top of my head) but you were walking down to a road as a car went by and you said jokingly ‘you alright mate?’ And the thumbs up and the doofy facial expression that followed was hilarious, we rewound it like 5 times over and I made it into a gif and use it to this day 😅 I’ll comment again if I have any other ideas, plenty of material to think through!

Mistaking Atlantic City for Ulaanbaatar is probably the hardest I ever laughed at a geogusser video

A compilation of alternative US state pronunciations - I-oh-a, O-Ray-Gun etc. I also spat out my drink when you referred to Hebrew as "Jew Language" but I wouldn't recommend uploading that one.

Are we recording?compilation. Graffiti compilation

On your missions with Greg when you make a joke and after, say ‘no no no’ or ‘I don’t know’ it makes the joke all the funnier

American Tom and/or mispronouncing places in general and American places especially (Oraygon, Ar-Kansas and so on)

Anton

Tom gets dicey with geopolitics 😂

Leaving phone in a strangers car *wholesome* :) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=79Gl1PLpC5Y&t=3m20s

Compilation of 'hiding' from the police whilst playing Geoguessr.

Phil Reid

personally not into youtube shorts at all so just wanted to say thanks for putting it all on a separate channel! too many youtube channels I sub to have been ruined for me because of shorts spam lol

kiiturii

loved that part of this video XD

Also: you could do loads of "Curb your X" videos. Like all those "what could go wrong" type moments would fit perfectly!

Rémy Hauspie

That clip where you pressed the emergency brake thinking it was the clutch. I'll look for it!

Remi Barron

MAW Attempt 2 (part 1): 30:56 - 31:11

Rémy Hauspie

"Hot Wheels - So hot you could cook an egg" Recutting the bit from 16:55-23:30 in https://youtu.be/7JSBNJT-tu4 down into 30 seconds A series of clips of all the nice people you've met on missions/adventures

Noel Raley

On that note, offtopic: "Get in!" Merch

Jo Weiser

"Get in!" Compilation

Jo Weiser

There were a couple of good moments in the Weatherspoons ones

Jo Weiser

I would say that in my experience with YouTube Shorts, the thumbnail and title are almost irrelevant, as people don't choose to click or search for the videos, they're just shown to people in the Shorts feed by the algorithm. The title and description are important to ensure the algorithm knows what category the video is in and therefore who to show it to, but by far the driving factor seems to be the audience retention. Very short videos do best as they tend to get over 100% retention, and videos that can somehow get people to watch multiple times (as the vids loop by default) that is treated as gold by the algorithm.

Title "it was at that moment I realised that a peat bog wasn't my friend"? "Act like you belong, and walk in a straight line" (crossing the lumber mill)

Ben Naylor

Straight Line Mission Across Wales: Attempt 2 (Part 3) 10:50 - 11:10 "GeoWizard is baffled by the Welsh landscape"

GeoWizard gets caught by the police while sleeping on a private property

In terms of ideas, any video where you say "it was at that moment that I realised....". Everyone loves a moment of "oh shit", or "well this isn't going as planned" (people like to see other people's "failures")

Ben Naylor

Hahaha awesome - sounds fun (: FWIW, might be worth making a Google form of some sort for people to submit them, might just be easier to look through!

ZackC__

Bud, finish all your shorts with a "Get In", or if you're stuck in a peat bog "Get Out" maybe.

Ben Naylor

Two funny moments come straight to mind but they're naughty! The City Guesser episode where you saw the statues from around 2:09 - https://youtu.be/hoxhx0E_V6s?t=127 - "All statues have todgers!" The one where you saw the graffitied willy in Sicily at 7:29 - https://youtu.be/1kwoT-9ClV4?t=449 - "GeoWizard comes across mad Sicilian bellend" I also recalled a particularly funny one-liner when you found a drunk guy outside one of the Wetherspoons episodes although I couldn't find the exact moment. But I did laugh at this, it could make a funny short clip from 2:53 https://youtu.be/BuZ-ld13p1I?t=173 - "How does one wain a cord?" (I might rewatch some old videos over the next few evenings and will report back if I come across any other top quality one-liners)

Dan Schaumann

Make us guess. Have a clip that's either going to be an insane guess or an abysmal one!!

https://youtu.be/zT52TKJdQ40?t=1038 do you mind? :)

Geowizard fails to cast a fishing rod miserably (from survival in the woods)

Found it: https://youtu.be/1kwoT-9ClV4 from 7:27

https://youtu.be/uh4guW7aYXc?t=841 <-- GeoWizard attempts to translate. Just a 5 second clip but was hilarious. (the let me try and translate this... )

How Not To Travel Europe Episode 4, I agree this should be one lol

Geowizard narrowly escapes prison- 3:54-4:09 Capital Cities #4 The 30 second run of Aldrige, titled "Geowizard smashes hometown Geoguessr record" or something along those lines The rollerskate Wipeout from Barcelona to Berlin, could be titled the same as on the main channel Really anything from the How Not To Travel Europe series, trying to get into the wedding, getting laughed at by a Dutch man for thinking there was a field full of weed, picking potatos with a flea ridden dog, working in the bakery, etc. Thats just a few off the top of my head

Englishman caught on Scottish soil? I feel like that whole bit could have some potential. Or since you can't use the railway crossing footage, maybe you could use the edit that shows the dog in the railyard and your edit of zooming into that.

I know this will not be a popular suggestion, but if you already have short clips, you can also put them on TikTok.

A bit of a throwback but i loved this scene from the "How not to travel Europe" Series: https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxUYASiXHv21szwP1nBti7-ekJZiFrSl14 You could call it "GeoWizard joins a local Football game in Slovakia and scores"

What about when you tried to score a goal on the Norway straight line mission

Thanks Scott, I may well upload all the clips to TikTok if they're a success

tom davies

Thanks Azor, I may well upload all the clips to TikTok if they're a success!

tom davies

Trip across Norway, The football bit at the end. Title something like : Fjord Football Failure (he let his nation down). Only joking, you didn't let anyone down, but titles like that.

Paul Cooke

You could do some insane guesses as shorts

JeroenL

I'd say looking at top comments on videos you upload are a good place to look for ideas. Where people have mentioned a certain snippet of the video that made them laugh. For example in the last upload where you ran away from your desk after hearing the sirens outside🤣

Jack Brown

You gotta get on the TikTok grind too. You could easily upload short edits of all your encounters on your missions

I like this idea

JeroenL

You need to get in on TikTok if you're gonna be making short clips like this. I know what you're probably thinking about it, but it's absolutely huge and might just inspire a new generation of GeoGuessr's - and adventurers.

Azortharion

My favourite moment that comes to mind is the one where you found a dick drawing in some Italian or French city and got distracted by it. Can't find the video though, so if anyone has it...

Football

Ayle

I quite like the format "this can't possibly be..." *cut to insane guess* iirc there was one in Argentina a few months ago

Anton

Short breakdowns of the kit you use on your missions. Always enough those parts in your analysis vids. Or anything with Future Tom - no offence I just prefer that guy

30 second mashup of "are we recording?"

Jacob Anderson

I think you should put them on the original channel. I get that you may not want to flood your subscribers feeds with shorts, but I think it would have a better effect in attracting new viewers

Anton

Also real life geoguessr when you interact with that potential drug dealer/buyer

You getting stressed trying to guess the African countries. Was in tears laughing at that 😂

Not good with titles but you gotta have one of when you’re drunk with those American guys and things get a bit hairy with that one guy Or where you get burnt / attempt to cook an egg on the scooter brake

Every time gloves are mentioned trip 1

A compilation of Bear Grylls impressions or Harry Potter references maybe. I feel like I've heard you say Peter Pettigrew a few times, though I cannot remember the context.

My personal favourite GeoWizard moment: Wales Mission I, EP 4 when you lose your phone. Happens to the best of us. https://youtu.be/QGkcTufp56A, ~3:30-4:00

See how many pringles you can stack on your nose...

Laura Newton

It would probably require too much effort in terms of editing to be worth it but one of those videos that syncs up a certain common phrase, like this Joe Rogan one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYrAdwuxIxM. i.e. "Get in!" or "Are we recording?"

Mistaking Ulaanbaatar and Atlantic City and pointing out the embarrassment of Atlantic City

I can't be arsed to answer this question. (Okay only for you: On the top of my head this moment was very funny in my opinion. I laughed out loud! https://youtu.be/3xm58Ccps1c?t=245 )

For me, your best content ever was How not to Travel Europe. I'll try to find some of my favorite moments.

Remi Barron

Make one for every time you say "Are we recording?"

I always like the bits in the straight line missions where you sing, eg. "What can I do to get through this swamp?", "Hey, I've got some new shoes on and I've ruined them straightaway" and "How deep is the Wye" so some of those would be my pick.
