Hiring progress, 3 months in
Added 2023-04-24 20:24:25 +0000 UTCToday marks 3 months since Inga came on board to help us with recruitment, so we wanted to take this opportunity and share an update on our hiring efforts (thanks to the suggestion from one of our Product Design candidates, Petro).
Over 3 months ago we opened 3 roles to grow the Mastodon team: DevOps Engineer, Product Designer and Software Engineer.
As of last Monday (17 April 2023), we have received a total of 1,467 applications, with the highest % of candidates applying for the Product Designer role (60%), followed by the Software Engineer role (25%) and DevOps Engineer (15%).
Here’s a slightly more detailed breakdown of how far we got with hiring for each position.
DevOps Engineer
More than a month ago we hired our second full-time team member Tim to take ownership of DevOps at Mastodon. Our hiring funnel for this role looked something like this:
- The majority (80%) of candidates completed our additional screening questions.
- We interviewed 11% of our candidates and invited the top 2.5% to our in-depth technical screening.
- Only 1% of our candidates got to the final round!
Product Designer
We decided to put the role on hold a couple of weeks ago due to the overwhelming interest and volume of applications we were receiving. To put things into perspective, 48% of our existing applications have not been screened yet.
Out of those who have been screened:
- 100 candidates were invited to complete our product design challenge,
- 67% of candidates completed the challenge and
- 24% got invited to the initial interview screening.
Software Engineer
We have recently kick-started the screening process for this role and so far had:
- 69% of candidates complete our additional screening questions.
- Out of those who completed 8% were considered for the first round of interviews, and
- Only 4% of candidates got invited to the first screening round this week.
Given the size of our team and limited resources, we will do our best to share another hiring update with you in about 2-3 months time. Thank you for your ongoing support!
Comments
I never used mastodon.social, but wanted to help development of the fediverse, it seems I should support another project in the future.
