Most of the time I work in multiple psd's and looking through them can be pretty confusing, so considering this I'd rather spend time on more sketches for you than refine the PSD files so it's suitable for pleasant viewing.

It's a nice plus but if you want use more time on the illustrations. It isn't necessary but its a nice addon.

Although I am not sure what other people use them for, they can be useful for making your own variations if they are available. Sometimes they are supported by gimp, other times you must own photoshop, which is now subscription only, to even get the layers to mask properly. I would hate to feed you bad information, but I am hesitant to think many people are genuinely interested in PSDs for the sake of them being PSDs (that is, outside of removing an intrusive watermark or making their own versions).
