Polanski, who won an Oscar for directing this movie, lived through this period in Poland as a child. He was sheltered by some families after being separated from his parents, and managed to hide his Jewish descent - so he must have identified strongly with his protagonist's experience.

I never watched this on my own cos I thought it would be too upsetting but it was great. When he tasted the jam for the first time in a long time, I nearly shed a tear. If you haven't read the kommandants' girl, I highly suggest it. Im not a huge novel person but its one of my favorite books.

Mami's Gatos

Hosenfeld was against the regime and saved many others. Definitely look him up - I'm still learning more info on him as well.

May we never come close to repeating this again. No matter where you come from, background, ethnicity.. we cannot go back to treating others as such and separating families. =(

I'm a professional pianist, and had a grandfather who fought in World War II. I'm not Jewish but have Jewish people in my extended family. This movie hits hard for me. Thanks for watching it!

As a Jewish person, thanks for reacting to this one. Yeah Roman Polanski is not a good person, but this movie is great.
