Most sequels are not that good. The Godfather 2 is an exception so is this movie.

Directors Cut is definitely the superior version. Theatrical isnt bad but DC is great

First time seeing this and it was much better than I was expecting. The ending gave me House of Usher 1960 vibes. I would suggest that movie.

lol yes fair point to Asia I think Danny might have noticed; however, that was definitely not the same actress so maybe that's why.... The world may never know.
Thanks for this one, I love reactions to this film. Mike Flanagan is a great director and filmmaker.

Nice pick!! I haven't watched yet because when I told my brother I was gonna finally get to this he encouraged me to watch The Shining again first... because it has been a good while since ive seen it. So I'm gonna watch that tonight and then come back to this. I hate missing details or references to things I should know lol. Excited to watch it!!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Mike Flanagan is a great writer/director and did justice to Stephen King's novel. Some suggestions for October would be The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher. They're all miniseries with about 7-10 episodes each.

I don't think the movie showed it, but in the book Dan sits with Momo (Abra's grandmother) when she's dying and confesses that Abra's mom is Dan's half sister. He genetically was Uncle Dan to Abra and that's part of the reason they were so connected. Also, it confirmed that Jack from The Shining, had a bit of the shine too.
I agree with your opinion that this was just as good as The Shining, even better to some degree, simply because of the extra effort taken to tie up all the "loose" ends from The Shining. Both movies are brilliant in their own artistic directions. Stephen King did not like Kubrick's interpretation of The Shining at all... he was angry for a long time about it. Flanagan also changed some details, mostly with the ending, but King supported it because it is the way the book The Shining ended (the hotel burning down). I get the impression that his biggest issue with Kubrick is that he didn't stay true to the character's personalities, whereas Flanagan pretty much did. Somehow, through Flanagan's adaptation he was able to pay homage to Kubrick and get full support from King.
Truly one of the best thrillers/whatever other genre in the last decade. Itβs just so damn good

The girl that she made tell the truth was not the same little girl from the beginning . They killed Violet early and put her steam in the can at the very beginning which is what Rose mentioned later on in the movie when she opened the can. The blonde girl that you saw later was just someone else who they recruited because her gift was to make people do what she wants which was very useful to them as she used her ability on the baseball kid to get him to ride with them so they could eat and kill him.

Mike Flanagan is my favorite film maker. He is one of Stephen King's favorites and worked hard to ensure that the things King didn't like about The Shining were remedied in this movie.
Please reserve watching Flanagan's limited series (10 episodes) The Haunting of Hill House for spooky season. It's a masterpiece. He also has 3 other limited series that are exceptional (Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and Fall of the House of Usher).
