Whoever said it was dehumanizing that I called Pearline an adulteress, had Stack been married to another woman, I literally would have called him an adulterer. That’s literally what it is called. I did not call her horrible names that women are often referred to nor did go on and on and on ripping her to shreds making it seem as though she was less than human. And although there is no context given as to whether or not she was in an abusive relationship, an unhappy marriage or if her husband was an adulterer, I’m simply calling her that based on information given which was in fact that she was married. Or at least she claimed to be. However, since this has now become something of which I’m being accused of dehumanizing another woman, I will kindly remove my previous comment from this post altogether as to not trigger, nor upset anyone else in this group.

Wild movie! Makes me think of my own family tree, deeply rooted in the old south, and a lot of these characters hit home. My grandfather was from Louisiana (and rumor had it, he knew Louie Armstrong very well) and my grandmother was from Mississippi and her father was Chinese, so depending on the day, growing up we might be eating peach cobbler and black eyed peas, or we might just be eating chop suey :)

I'm so glad ya'll enjoyed this movie. I loved it when I watched it in theathers. Watching the scene where Sammy is singing and then showing the influence of the music through past, present, and future was visually so amazing on the big screen.

Rumor is that the movie is loosely based off the life of legendary blues singer, Robert Johnson. He supposedly made a deal with the devil for his talent.

Great reaction! It was awesome to see Buddy Guy and Christone "Kingfish" Ingram come in at the end. Two masters of blues music from different eras. I was always intrigued by the folklore of Robert Johnson selling his soul to the devil at the crossroads and love how he was the inspiration for the character Sammie Moore.

The subtleness in the acting and directing choices is beautiful and real. Example: How Smoke felt Ms. Annie quietly come out the house as he kneeled over their child's grave, then acknowledges her presence by asking "How you been?" This happens later when Mary feels Smoke standing over her shoulder at the bar and she like him, talks to them before facing them. And just like real life, we usually can sense someone approaching us before seeing them.

If I have a complaint at all, it's that they stretched this movie out way too long. It was a simple story about vampires and music set in depression era Mississippi. I don't think it needed to be 2 hours long. Was this like an extended cut or something? Otherwise, very cool movie. When they first dropped that beat in the juke joint...that was awesome!

This movie is ridiculously good 🤦🏽‍♂️ you’ll definitely have to watch it atleast 2 more times 🤣🤣 not kidding! There’s so many things happening at 1 time in this movie in any given scene it’s IMPOSSIBLE to fully grasp everything in 1 or even 2 watches! They threw me off coming in thinking it was a horror film. There’s horror but this is not a horror film. It’s much deeper than that.

Y'all definitely need to watch this a second time because you'll learn something new everytime. Like Smoke has Stack roll his cigarettes for him because he has PTSD from the war, which is why he asked the Klan leader for one. Also, if you remember the guitar Sammie was playing was owned by the twins father who abused Stack when they was younger. My guess is that their fathers spirit still lies within that guitar seeing how it attracted the vampires. Also, each of the characters represents the 7 deadly sins. Smoke represents greed because of his obsession with money, Bo represents pride because he was concerned about getting Grace back home and if he would have waited inside they still would have been alive. Grace represents Wrath because she had a mental breakdown when Rimmick threatened her family which lead to everyone getting killed. Delta Slim represents Gluttony because of his constant drinking which is the last thing he did before he went out. P.S. the brass knuckles that Stack was wearing in the post credit scene was the same brass knuckles that Radio Raheem was wearing in Spike Lee's, 'Do The Right Thing.'

Yea loved the filming but was off by the plot and story and why but after digging into to it to understand I’m a fan. Bc I was like it’s good but ehh learning more is now a wow ok and rewatching helps but knowing. I really think the hype was just yea it’s great and not understanding it. Always love music scenes in movies. Made me remember the scene in black snake moan this gave me that vibe loved the barn and thunderstorm playing. so now I got to watch that again lol
