I think some other people in the comments are pointing it out, but my read on it was that Chris was abused too -- when Michael first talks to Chris and Snoop, Snoop asks "what he do to you?" and Michael just has this thousand yard stare. Certain things are too painful to even speak, and Chris could see it. He even reassures Michael by calling him Boss -- he doesn't want him carrying that hurt anymore. And that's why Chris kills Bug's daddy so passionately. He is taking a lot of pleasure in putting his normally cold violence towards something like justice. He normally is pure ice, but not for that....because part of him had to understand it. Also, it kind of makes sense of why Chris is so cold blooded. So many stories of serial killers and hit men are about them being abused as kids -- it makes it so that violence is a normal state of affairs. People that abuse kids are also notoriously targeted in prison for that same reason. There's certain lines even criminals don't cross, and I think it's fair to assume that whatever bug's dad did, was crossing that line. And it explains why Michael is so protective of his little brother -- he cannot let that same thing happen to him.
