American History X

This movie is always hard to watch, the sound of the teeth on the kerb has haunted me from when i first watched it nearly 30 years ago. It's so sad that a lot of the languange being used is still being used today. BJ said it perfectly, you've got to get rid of the hate.

Alex Lee

1:23:40 I think Derek laughed and tried to hide it, lol 1:31:13 That’s why Cameron told Derek “you don’t have to watch your ass here, hahaha” at the Skinhead party 1:29:40 It’s kind of fate that Derek met this cool guy 1:54:00 I wish Derek pressed harder and told them what he did. Idk if it’s bad writing or just forced, but Derek wasn’t specific

turnt0ff

Good reaction Asia and J. theres 2 more films that are in the same genre. Shot Caller and skin. these films are in the same field of a shock factor

Saints_Madness

I first watched this movie when I was 11 and it just came out. I was traumatized by the curb scene. It’s definitely a classic film that’s still relevant in today’s times.

Amber Yousef

Where is the anger for what happened at the end? Remember the initial scene of the dudes fucking with a kid in the beginning cause he was white. Now we here. Where is the anger in the kid that shot Danny in the end. Where is the other side ending it?

Giovanni Mazzola

Lol Seth is still a singer like from remember the titans...lmao absolutely.

Patrick McGuire

Mein Kampf is the book that Danny did his report on. It’s a book written by Hitler. What’s up guys haven’t been over here for a while. Glad to be here.

Nizate

Love this movie

Paige Moody

Don't care, having an unfortunate life doesn't excuse victimizing other people, armed criminals breaking and stealing your stuff are a threat to your life and there is nothing wrong with ending that threat with deadly force.

GenericStatue

Not every transgression warrants deadly force as a response, armed robbers breaking into and stealing your stuff definitely does though. They didn't respect their own lives.

GenericStatue

Never cheered for him, I just don't feel bad for a fictional criminal getting his shit kicked in by another fictional criminal who's property he was destroying/trying to steal.

GenericStatue

American History X isn’t just a movie; it’s an experience. It challenges you to reflect on your own biases, question the systems around you, and believe in the possibility of redemption, even when it feels out of reach. For me, it’s a reminder that hate is learned, but so is empathy—and that’s where hope lies. Edward Norton’s performance blew me away. He completely transforms into Derek, from the menacing, tattooed neo-Nazi we see in the flashbacks to the remorseful and reflective man trying to make amends in the present. Danny is caught between idolizing his brother’s past and trying to understand his present. Their relationship feels so real—filled with love, frustration, and pain—and it’s heartbreaking to watch how their choices ripple through their lives and everyone around them.

Bridget Lewis

I guess I missed that. I'll have to rewatch the beginning. It's an excellent movie, just jarred me a bit with the strong emotions and violent interactions. Thanks. We didn't have those kinds of confrontations in my high school or community. I grew up in a small rural area. It's interesting to note that the prison population generally segregates themselves by choice. One on one, working in the laundry together, race was not an issue.

Cynthia M Farrington

The boy who shoot Daniel was from the beginning of the movie, remember when the black boys were kicking the white kid in the bathroom - he blew smoke in his face

Bridget Lewis

Such a hard movie to watch every time. What hurts me every day is we as "humans" have the capability to be a loving species.

Lori Mcmyne

I just rewatched it and you are right; they don’t look alike. I just assumed the shooter of Daniel would be someone we had seen before. Are we to assume that he was related to the men in the beginning whom Derek killed because of the car? Why wouldn’t they target Derek instead of Daniel? Is it because Daniel has affiliated himself with the skin heads?

Cynthia M Farrington

Mein Kamf was a book written by Adolf Hitler.

Cynthia M Farrington

@Cynthia They were two different characters. Lamont was the one who Derek worked with in the laundry room of the prison. The one who shot Danny at the end of the movie was the guy that Danny encountered in the beginning of the movie in the same bathroom and Danny blew cigarette smoke in his face. The message being that it's an endless cycle (if continued). Hatred does not cease hatred.

Eamonn Locke

They don't even look simular 😬😬

Josip Buretić

Asia saying "He was still the singer" @ 2:01:47 had me 💀Thank you for inserting some humor into an otherwise dispiriting ending to a great film.

Eamonn Locke

Oh, Cynthia. No, my dear. Those were two very different people who both happen to be black. Maybe it's time to watch the movie.

Charles

Cynthia M Farrington

Derick ( Edward Norton ) still managed to save his brother in the end. Danny was ultimately able let go of the hate in his heart before he was murdered.

KiddFromLA

Birdman is a great movie

Erin Olson

Yes! And that one sucks!

ZealValHarriah

Please add these to your watchlist! lol 1408 (2007) Jamesy boy (2014) Life (1999) La bamba (1987)

Angel Pantoja

Hey my sissy❤️ I did watch this yest... and boy the emotions I felt were indeed hard to control at times!!! Hope you're well Stacey.. love ya sis❤️🫂

Donna Bannister

I was going to suggest that one. Asia said she didn't recognize his name, and I was trying to remember if they'd done any of his movies yet, but I guess not. I would DEFINITELY start with Primal Fear. He killed that part. And it was his big screen debut no less.

Renee S

Thanks Stacey! Just gotta get through this weekend! 🥹🥹

Rebecca Karsner

🫂 Hope everything went smoothly

Stacey Capito

I cut ties with family who express similar views. Spent years fact-checking the BS and trying to change their minds. Never worked. I've been at less violent versions of that dinner table scene. I've had many of those same arguments.

Kimberly Tyda

Hi my lovely sis 💜 Not sure if you've watched this yet, but it is more scary than any horror film for me. I want to see their reaction, but I don't think my heart can get through the whole movie again. I may be waiting for the YT edited version. Much love ❤️

Stacey Capito

With ya in MS Carol, in desoto county myself. Stay safe and warm.

Tony Uthe

First of all there's a wide range of circumstances that would lead somebody to an act of desperation like that. second of all the recourse doesn't ever need to be death. Period.

JessicaB

I'm from Maryland. Ed Norton went to the high school right down the street from us so we love to claim him lol amazing actor ☀️

JessicaB

No, There is definitely something much more wrong with people that think every transgression warrants a death sentence. It shows what little respect you ultimately have for human life. It's pretty disgusting.

Dustin

Edward Norton is from Rounders and Hulk. Please watch his best roll, Primal Fear

Randy Ripley

Asia’s look through the whole movie is like what do you mother fuckers have me watching ? -it’s crazy how the language from the father is verbatim as conversations had today

DP

I showed this movie to Jenn recently, it’s a tough watch but important messaging for sure. Looking forward to watching your reaction!

CALIXYUKON

Hard to tell cuz of hair cut. Terminator 2 my top 3 action flick. Seen soo many times

Kim Cottingham

from the NorthEast, used to waking up to two feet of snow overnight; moved to Cypress, TX for a few years. 1/4 of snow that melts quickly? SHUT IT DOWN!!!! EVERYBODY PANIC! lmao, when we were there, they still had no trucks in Houston that could deliver salt/road mix ya know, for the ice and traction on roads. nope it's just go skating on the highway. Same in North Carolina when we were there in the Western part, little snow, college is shut down for a week!

Neon_ninja

Boy oh boy do I need to tell you about these groups of people called white supremacists and nazis cause you're going to really really hate them if you hate people stealing and destroying other people's property lol. Something about cheering for the guy with a swastika tattoo seems a little odd does it not? The scene is intentionally proactive but Im not sure it's supposed to create sympathy for the Neo-Nazi.

SunsN4

Hi. I loved this Movie . Edward Norton is brillant.

Chris Wein

Nothing is wrong with me, something is wrong with people who want to steal and destroy other people's property.

GenericStatue

I’d never seen this movie before. When I saw what he was about to do, I looked above the frame. Asia’s face said it all.

Julie A

Well, his was obviously related to Nazis!

Julie A

What is wrong with you

DP

Y'all have to check out Primal Fear next another good Edward Norton movie......

Jason Cooper

The curb stomp scene is wild lol of course I don't advocate for racially motivated violence, but on the other hand, i despise car thieves, hard to feel bad for that guy.

GenericStatue

Oh damn you right

GenericStatue

Great reaction you two. I know it was a hard one to watch , but I'm glad you did. It's a great example of how a dangerous Ideology can take hold and spread. Also, "kike" is a derogatory name for Jewish person. I love you guys Keep the movies coming.

Renee B

Oh man.. I watched this one once many many years ago and couldn't watch again due to the intensity. But definitely a must watch - similar to Schindler's List. Difficult but one everyone should see, for sure. Okay, okay... lets do this =)

Bonnie Smith

Easily one of the most powerful films I've ever seen, and something I think a lot of Americans should watch. Every talking point about immigrants and minorities Derek used before he went to prison, is still being used today, and even scarier is how mainstream that rhetoric has become in our political system and media landscape. And Norton was an Oscar nominee for best Actor in a leading role, not sure who he lost to, but this is probably his best performance

Cameron

Wow. 😔mind blown. BJ you’re right. Such a powerful film. Wow. How do people go so wrong. We’re all made in God’s image. The real cancer in the world is hate. And speaking of that, I was really feeling it for Edward Norton’s character, Derek! Man! He was a piece of work!! But then to watch as he was slowly letting go of a lifetime of hate, it was so powerful. And then, the ending—so, so sad. ☹️I’m really glad I got to watch this with y’all. I’d never heard of this movie. Take care. Night, fam!

Carol Rocha

You should see the dude that played Seth nowadays! He's all ripped and into physical fitness. Great reaction as always! ✌️

Brad Beach

Good movie with great performances. Shows how little has changed in American society. I think him being sexually assaulted was too much though.

Karim

You too Donna!! 😁

Rebecca Karsner

This is a movie you can’t forget in many ways. In my opinion, everyone should watch this. It’s crazy how some of that stuff he’s saying could be said in 2025. Crazy how the world changes but at the same time doesn’t. I’m waiting for my kids to get old enough to watch it.

Michele G

Another Edward Norton film that is really worth a watch is Primal Fear. His performance is really fantastic and the movie has a great cast - Richard Gere, Alfre Woodard, Laura Linney (Wendy from Ozark), and Frances McDormand (from Fargo).

Kimberly Tyda

This movie is such a stressful, exhausting watch - I can feel my blood pressure raising in many of the scenes. I've always had mixed feelings about how the movie handled the difficult subject matter. I find the redemption arc in this story to be somewhat problematic. I don't think people with this mindset change to this degree (or this fast) very often. And I don't like that Derek was essentially turned into the film's hero through that redemption arc.

Kimberly Tyda

Wow, that was intense. Glad I finally gave this movie a chance. Thanx guys😊

Awilda Luciano

Yes, getting awful cold here in Mississippi, with rain/ice/sleet/snow. Ugh. But you said it. Got the milk and bread. And hopefully staying put. I was just watching a weather person in Plano, TX. Not sure where that is in relation to yall. But it was a good amount of slush which I’m sure is freezing over and over. Be careful -everyone!

Carol Rocha

They’ve done “A Time to Kill”. I’m not sure where this movie falls on that spectrum, bc I know nothing about it. It’s always been a hard watch as well. I would like to see them react to Schindler’s List. I haven’t seen it on the channel. One at a time tho. I think the Fam will be able to handle this one, and I know that Asia & BJ will. Here goes.

Carol Rocha

Also the sister Jennifer Lien from Star Trek Voyager

Oscar Ortega

Thank you, I was about to say the same thing

Todd Williamson

You guys always have balls for posting films like these. Films like these are important and I’m still waiting on the same director to shoot African History Y. Anyways great choice.

Jay Rivera

Never clicked on something so fast. Happy you are doing this. A fave.

Dan Gershgol

talk about a depressing movie....yikes

Gavin Reid

Not all swastikas are related to Nazis. They were used all over the ancient world by different peoples and cultures. Hitler inverted it and used it for his own propaganda.

ZealValHarriah

Oh man .. this one

pkleo73

This movie was from 98, and Derek is espousing rhetoric that applies today. It's interesting how over time, the message of this movie can change your perspective on things.

Dan Gonya

Oh yeah this is a classic...... One of best character development story in a move I've seen.....

Jason Cooper

Murdering someone pisses me off.

PIG

Swastikas piss me off, seriously.

Dan Gonya

Here we go. This movie is really intense with the subject matter so it's going to be a crazy reaction to watch. I hope all is well with everyone in the A&B fam from coast to coast, 2025 said hold my beer and we're just over a week in. Take care everyone stay safe and have a great day✌❤ fam!

Darth Brooks

Oh snap! Reactions are gonna be great. This is definitely one of the favorites.

Melissa Perez

I'm all good ty 😊 glad to hear you're ok. Thanks for heads up on this movie.. and have a great day!!!

Donna Bannister

Thanks Donna 😁

Rebecca Karsner

This has so far not been a bad winter here in the Chicagoland area.. just bitter cold lol. Hope you're doing well Donna! And just a forewarning.. this film is very tough and there a few hard scenes in this BUT I think it's message is very strong.

Rebecca Karsner

Pray for you I shall Rebecca🤗 hope you're well!!!🥰

Donna Bannister

Hey fam!! Glad to see y'all are doin ok with ya crazy snowy icyyy weather🥶 I haven't seen this movie, but look forward to watching after work. Stay safe & warm❤️❤️

Donna Bannister

Mr. Avery Brooks is well known for Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Spencer For Hire but Asia and BJ I highly recommend checking out his television series A Man Called Hawk which features his best work. It can be found on the Tubi streaming app.

JL Green

This movie is hard to watch

Amber

I remember not ever realizing that was Edward Norton the first time I saw this. He was so transformed.

PIG

Ooooh boy

PIG

I've waited almost a year and a half for you to get to this film. I'm about to see your reaction to it, and even though this movie is really intense , I'm really excited to watch this with you guys!

Dan Gonya

Absolute legends. Love you guys!

ZealValHarriah

Very powerful film it will be awesome to watch with you guys. I hope everyone has a great time watching it. Thanks for the upload

Rio Mendoza

Did you recognize the younger brother as John Connor from Terminator 2

Kim Cottingham

Keep safe in the weather. Between snowy weather and fires in the west, the world seems it's going nuts. Where I live, snow is not an unusual thing in Dec, Jan and Feb, however the last couple of winters have been ironically pretty snow-less for us, while everyone else gets dumped on :)

Renee S

Good movie...I was rooting for " the fast and the furious", but this is also good.

Edgar Gonzalez

I've never been able to look at a curb the same way.

Rebecca Karsner

Haven't watched this in a while. This movie is heavy! Will be watching tonight after work! Everybody pray for me to get through these inventories! 😭 lol

Rebecca Karsner

Oh damn guys. Going heavy today. This movie is incredible with the Acting and hard subject matter. I can’t wait to see y’all‘s reaction during THE brutal scene.
