You guys should also watch The Dirt Bike Kid. It came out two years after this. It also has Peter Billingsley aka Ralphie.

2024-12-30 09:07:28 +0000 UTC60s or 70s? This movie is set in 1940 - back when nobody had televisions and kids were listening to Little Orphan Annie on the radio. By the way, the story that Little Orphan Annie decoder rings yielded secret messages that were Ovaltine commercials is apparently widespread, but not true. I understand that an awful lot of the airtime on that show was devoted to Ovaltine ads, but that the secret messages were basically teasers for what would happen in the next episode. I loved the use of the wolf music from Peter and the Wolf for the scenes with the bully. And for my next Christmas, I want a leg lamp and a pink bunny costume. Loved your reaction as always.

There was a boy in my class who had a BB gun and he honest to God shot his eye out with it! He ended up having to get a glass eye! I’ll never forget it and every Christmas when this movie is played I remember the boy I knew who actually shot his eye out with a BB gun.

I love the way it is narrated by the man about his childhood in Indiana, although I believe it was fictional. He most likely drew on his and others’ experiences.

Then some years ago TNT/TBS played it every year and then not long after, started doing the 24/7 marathons of it on Christmas. So it has become super popular over the years. I died when you said you thought the cars were from the 70’s. The movie was made in the 80’s but The cars and the story took place in the 1940’s. Think Dazed and Confused movie for cars in the 70’s. Hope you and your family had a super nice Christmas! Love what you do. You are so much fun.

2024-12-26 04:09:21 +0000 UTCI always had the hardest time falling asleep on Christmas Eve. I was too excited, especially back when I was like 6 and Santa was still visiting my house. But I was never a peeker or one to shake presents or anything like that. One year my mom hid all the presents in the downstairs bathroom and just told my brother and me that the bathroom was broken, and we never questioned it in the slightest. Meanwhile my younger, girl cousins were figuring out that Santa used the same wrapping paper as her parents did...us boys were dumb. 🤣

2024-12-25 21:38:17 +0000 UTCThis was set in the period of the late 30s and early 40s There were some clues to point this out One, the Wizard of Oz was featured during Higbee's parade and even inside the store (Ralphie being bugged by the witch and the kid saying he likes the tin man) Two, at the movie's start, you can see the outline of Snow White in the background among all the toys and models the kids were drooling over Three, there were only radios for entertainment If you noticed, there was no TV inside the house And of course, there were the vehicles The fire department truck and the police cars were dead giveaways about when this movie was set; no way that there were city vehicles like THOSE in the 60s or 70s lol

Just like Ralphie on Christmas morning! I used to have an ornament of the leg lamp in the crate and when you opened it you would hear the dad say “Fra-Gee-Lay” 😂

Now I know I’m probably gonna get some heat for this, but I am going to recommend that you watch a Christmas Story 2. In spite of what the critics say, I absolutely love that movie also!
