2024-12-12 03:12:00 +0000 UTCLehane (who wrote this novel) is one of the best fiction writers of our time. He also wrote Mystic River (my favorite novel of all time). I have debated this ending with so many people. It's what makes this film and story so great. For me, it's Patrick sticking around and babysitting at the end. He is willing to give his entire self to his moral decision. He will stick around and try to make the "right" thing right. Even if it means losing the love of his life. He didn't just send the kid back to the bad mom because it's what's right. He stuck around and gave up everything to stand behind his decision. Lehane is a genuis and he makes us question right and wrong while telling incredibly entertaining stories. So glad y'all watched this and your conversation after the film was wonderful.

But given the situation the girl was in, it’s only a matter of time until she’s left alone to die, or gets cooked again in a car, or left someplace where her mom has passed out with her drug dealers and they do God knows what to her…..,smh. Sad, sad, sad. But we know CPS’s record for doing the best thing for the child is not too good. After all the things came out about the mother and drug deals, etc., there should have been more of an investigation where the mother was concerned and she should’ve had to prove she was caring for the child. Didn’t even have a babysitter and just LEFT. She wasn’t a stable person, much less a stable mother. But. SMH. It’s strange…even tho we’re mothers…that we could feel confounded in this instance. 🤦🏻♀️ The level of neglect and abuse was so horrible; it’s hard for me to feel deep empathy for her. As Asia says, yall don’t come for me. lol. Just thinking out loud. I know right is right & wrong is wrong, BJ. This just hits different bc I’ve seen the tremendous level of abuse to girls/women and often at the hands of family. SMH. God bless all the dear children. ❤️

2024-12-01 21:01:36 +0000 UTCThat was a tough movie to watch, I'd never seen it before. It really hit close to my heart and soul. I had one daughter who was murdered when she was 4. I barely got through to the end of this. As for the movie, the guy who basically stole Amanda had his own reasons for stealing her and I TOTALLY understand that. But I can't go steal a little girl from a bad mother and pretend that it's ok. It seems like he did the right thing and can give her a better life. But who knows how it would have worked out in the long run. It was a huge twist that he set that whole plan in place.

"Gone Baby, Gone." because depending on how you see the ending, you can say that Cheese was wrong, because she did NOT die, or you COULD say that he was spot on! when he said "..//And if that child's only hope is YOU?! Well then she's Gone Baby, Gone!..//" because he either fails and doesn't find her, then she's technically "Gone" from her (selfish) mom and (loving) aunt and uncle, OR he succeeds and returns her to her (selfish) mom with no more (loving) aunt and uncle.. in anyway Casey sure did his thing with his acting and his brother Ben sure did his thing with his writing and directing. other good movies directed by Ben: The Town and Argo

It stars Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams. Was wondering if you'd notice Lionel played by Titus Welliver. He was Jimmy O'Phelan in Sons of Anarchy.

The mom Helene did a fantastic job - you believe she is that person - what is so weird is that she went on to be play a dorky, sweet person on The Office. If you want to see another great film directed by Ben Affleck (he won an Oscar for it) see Argo - it's an INCREDIBLE true story that took place during the Iran Hostage Crisis. Also, BJ you were right, the guy with the scar did die last year - an amazing actor - he was one of my favorites in Boardwalk Empire.

Another good choice would be The Town, which also stars Ben and Jeremy Remmer, also fantastic acting in that one too.
