Reminds me of a similar poll from another creator where The Wire lost to Sons of Anarchy. SOA and Ozark are good shows, but The Wire getting a little slept on and disrespected around here. Hopefully you guys will get to it at some point.

I just kept hoping it would get better, but it kept getting worse. It seemed to me that the writers had no idea where they were going with it. I wish I had never watched it. On the other hand, while Ozark isn’t as good as Breaking Bad, few shows are. I’ve already watched it twice. Julia Garner and Laura Linney were amazing.

SOA was also one of the best as was Dexter. but LOST belongs with those shows as top tier shows. Ozark.... not so much. its good but not great

It will keep you on the edge of your seat. ive watched it at least 5 times all the way through. Every episode is good and the acting is top tier People felt the same way about the ending of the sopranos and the rest of the show was still worth watching.

Hopefully nobody takes it personally, and just remember - you can always leave if they're doing something that doesn't interest you, and come back later when they do something that does. Like I didn't care at all about Dexter, but I did care about Sons. I've cancelled and re-subscribed probably 5 times in the past couple years.

The 1st season has won awards. The 2nd season, which is the final season, is current airing on Netflix. Animation is amazing.

I have a feeling The Wire will win because sooooo many people think it’s the best show of all time. I personally couldn’t get through it because it was too heavy and too REAL. Shows like that bring me down. Anyhoo, I did watch Ozark and thought it was a good show with GREAT acting, but it probably doesn’t compare to The Wire. IMHO Ozark is nowhere near as good as Breaking Bad or The Sopranos, but I did enjoy it. That is all. 😊

I don't much care for crime dramas, and can't stand it when they try to sell you a bad guy as a hero, someone to feel sorry for...I have had to pay for every bad decision I have made in my life... no one has felt sorry for me, and I don't expect them to... Dexter is a perfect example of that. Let's make the serial killer the hero of the show... then people wonder what is wrong with our society. Sorry for the rant... my suggestion would be Vikings for what history they managed to include. The rest are the usual cops, politics, sordid situations, deception, the things our culture apparently places a high value on. I have watched at least one or more episode of all but Ozark which although I love the stars, I couldn't do the subject matter.

This was mostly due to the writer strike in 2007-2008 which affected many good shows. Prison Break was also a "super generic normie show" too, lets not get it twisted 😁

I’ve seen both shows within the last year and while maybe the technology in The Wire is dated (it was actually dated when the show originally aired - part of the show was capturing how tech evolved and the bureaucratic failure to keep up), the themes remain true and more relevant than ever. Plus, the first time I saw The Wire was less than 5 years ago so I’m not a part of the nostalgia train. It’s more of a philosophical show rather than an action show so I understand why people aren’t as interested. But that fact coupled with the fact that it is 20+ years old while coming in 2nd says a lot about its staying power.

Ozark is on top now with 23% but all that means is the vast majority of people - 77% voted for something else. I’d take the top two from this one and do one last poll and see if some of the other options aren’t splitting the difference. Although I’m biased because I know Ozark is a second rate Breaking Bad rip off and The Wire is one of the best shows of all time. I could and have talked for hours about that show and what it means. Something to remember with The Wire is that it’s less about the plot and more about the philosophy of what is going on. It’s about what the show is saying about poverty, drug culture, corrupt cops, good cops, bureaucracy, addiction, government, education, journalism, the corruption of it ALL and how all of that is tied together and how it grips our country and it’s people. If you want to see something that hits your heart and makes you think, The Wire does it better than anything else.

It tells the story of both the people who sell drugs and the people who use them. Its a story about policing and police corruption, about bending the law to do whats right and what is the line between those who bend the law and the criminals themselves. Its about political corruption and its ties to both law enforcement and the people law enforcement is attempting to arrest. Its also not the first HBO show, Arliss, OZ, and the Sopranos were all released before The Wire. If you're gonna run your mouth and try and spoil the show in the comments at least know wtf your talking about.

It’s 23 years old, no one gets busted, it’s just ghetto drug dealers talking the entire time until finally some characters are killed and lame Marlo takes over and it just ends. So many better options. It is a crime that True detective, Fargo series, narcos & narcos Mexico is not on here to be done. I will pay you to not do the wire and try one of the others. Seriously the wire sucks bad. People only think it’s good because it’s celebrated ghetto culture and was the 1st HBO series. But it doesn’t hold up the plot never goes anywhere and it just ends. Also, ita one of those shows rhat changes you ans makes you think about the bigger picture Like the walking dead. Shameless I got into late. It's addicted the forst time you watch it. Emmy Rossum is amazing and the backbone of the show till she left. I cannot stomach it anymore, personally. It's hella heavy and dramatic. It has its dark hhumorous moments.

I have ADD and would get so bored that my mind would wander during entire episodes. I didn’t realize it until I read a recap of a specific episode and realized I had zoned out after 5 minutes. I couldn’t believe I had stared at the TV for an hour and was daydreaming the whole time!

Accidently waited too long and forgot too many details (and forgot why I stopped watching in the first place) so I watched it again and AGAIN it was so difficult for me to finish the series but I forced my way through it and the payoff was so disappointing I wish I had never given it a second glance, it did not deserve it. Time I will never get back. Game of Thrones' ending may be a disappointment but at least I wasn't bored.

2024-11-14 00:59:36 +0000 UTCI think people here like to have reactions to stuff they've already seen, and Peaky Blinders originally aired on BBC and came to Netflix on delay, so maybe didn't have as many eyes on it compared to a show like Lost which was shown on network television, or a Netflix original like Ozark (which was getting comparisons to Breaking Bad too, so probably drew in audiences easier). Personally, having seen Peaky Blinders, I'd say it goes toe to toe with The Wire. Though like Ozark, the final season lost some speed on it's fastball due to production delays during Covid. Not as bad of a final season fall-off as Ozark though I'd say.
