Kona-tober? Octo-Guardians? Um...

Okay, so I had seriously considered doing Inktober, the yearly challenge to draw something every day for the entire month of October. I had it all planned out. Apparently there was a similar challenge last month called Tokutember where you draw Tokusatsu stuff every day for a month, but the official prompts were REALLY Kamen Rider heavy with, like, practically no Sentai/Ranger stuff, which is obviously what I was there for. So I thought I'd just make up my own Ranger prompts for Inktober, maybe focusing on the monsters to tie it in with Halloween month.

But that got me thinking- wasn't there another sentai inspired thing I should be working on? I don't know, maybe like... my own book that's been laying dormant for over a year now.

Yeah, I've been having a really hard time getting Kona Guardians issue 2 going. Oh, I've been trying, but I just kept hitting wall after wall. The more I tried and the harder I thought about it, the more frustrated and discouraged I seemed to become. I don't know what it is, I have a fairly good idea of what I want to happen this issue, but writing the script was just becoming this insurmountable mountain. 

But then recently I started to think: maybe don't write the script. If getting the words out is what's tripping me up, maybe jump straight to the visuals which I (arguably) have a better grasp on. And so, I decided I'd try doing this in a slightly modified "Marvel Method", where the rough layouts basically ARE the script. And to give me extra motivation and to help keep me on track, tie it into Inktober. And thus, I have Kona-tober. (Except maybe not that. That name sucks. lol) I'm going to try to do a rough layout page every day for the month. (Or, at least, the first 24-ish days, I suppose.) Will it work? I don't know, but I did page one this morning and I'm quite happy with it. This is the most "real" the issue has felt to me so far, so I think I'm at least off to the right start. 

Now, I don't think I'm going to post every page here, but I figured announcing this idea publicly will help with that whole accountability thing. And who knows? I might share some more if any particular page strikes me. But for the time being, I hope you all dig the first official look at Kona Guardians #2!
