I was fortunate enough to see the Norma Desmond character played by Glenn Close, Betty Buckley in NYC and Elaine Paige in the West End in London. I hope you guys get a chance to see the show some day.

Modern films like “Taxi Driver” and “Joker” (2019) are considered neo-noir, an evolution of the genre. Another must-see noir classic is “Double Indemnity” (1944), directed by Billy Wilder, the same director as “Sunset Boulevard".

The woman in this movie is the legendary actress Gloria Swanson. She was in dozens of silent-films. Silent-film actors emphasized body language and facial expression so that the audience could better understand what an actor was feeling and portraying on screen. This film was a box office smash and earned her a third Academy Award nomination as Best Actress and she also won a Golden Globes for this film. It is reported she earned $50,000 for her role in this movie way back then!! I recall reading that her performance as the delusional silent star Norma Desmond in this film so impressed movie audiences that she said she spent the rest of her life having to remind the public, "I'm not Norma Desmond, I merely played her onscreen!" In her personal life, she was also known for her extravagant lifestyle and antics. She was married and divorced 6 times....wowza! Truly enjoyed watching this classic with you!
