There is a director's cut that shows that while Bud was diffusing the bomb, the aliens were threatening the Earth with super tidal waves because the humans were about to nuke each other.

I love how the aliens saved all of them. After all, Bud saved the aliens world too by sacrificing himself to diffuse the nuke. Asia you are correct, Ed Harris was in Apollo 13 and he was the guy in the moon who controlled the Truman Show too. One of my favorite actors. He’s been in tons of stuff. Thanks for picking this one.

Ok that was my meezer. but yea you should have an account at imdb. the app on your phone. imdb should always be your first stop when looking for info on a movie. but heres some trivia. 1. Real oxygenated fluorocarbon fluid was used in the rat fluid breathing scene. Dr. Johannes Kylstra and Dr. Peter Bennett of Duke University pioneered this technique and consulted on the film, giving detailed instructions on how to prepare the fluid. The only reason for cutting to the actors' faces was to avoid showing the rats defecating from momentary panic as they began breathing the fluid. 2. It is a 1985 Oscar-winning science fiction comedy-drama film in which the residents of a Florida retirement home get a new lease on life when they stumble across an alien "fountain of youth". Directed by Ron Howard. The sequel is good too "Cocoon: The Return".

It took away from the movie imo and looked fake and corny. Also this is the version I grew up watching so maybe that’s another reason why I’m having a hard time liking it. I don’t like change 😂

When the nuke went down to the alien city, the aliens used their water powers to threaten the world with massive tidal waves. When bud saved the aliens they returned the favor and made all the tidal waves go away.
