The Truman Show

The Truman Show

Comments

I actually thought the same as BJ at the end, that the man in charge was going to say he’s Truman’s father or related to him some way

Elle E.

I’m late to the party, but yes.

Justtired

Yeah your reaction is normal - they intentionally are making it so that we don't really quite understand precisely what the issue is at first, but only that something is off. So the viewer is kinda seeing the world unravel at a similar pace as Truman is as more and more clues appear.

coburnsven

Your guys reaction when he hit the wall was priceless 🤣

Matthew Stewart

Both the American AND Swedish versions. They're both great.

I love this movie, so glad you guys did too! It blew people away when it first came out. It has some hilarious lighthearted moments, but it freaked me out as a kid! All throughout his childhood and early adulthood, all this weird shit happens(people crashing the set, weird people rushing others away, not remembering family vacations) but he doesn't even realize, because it's all he's ever known. We have to think that he never gets access to 'real' news, modern music, tv. His whole life is curated and controlled, and everyone knows it but him. The creator doesn't care about Truman, he only values the show, and everyone around him does what he says without question. When it finally becomes too much, and Truman can't unsee, he gets relentless in trying to discover the truth even though it's scary. Many people have likened him to someone who grew up in a cult and, over time figured out the truth.

It’s the ultimate Reality TV. This movie became a real life Mental Diagnosis for the super paranoid/delusional that thinks the whole world’s watching or out to get them and they’re actually part of a staged TV show, and reality’s something different than what they experience out in the world. As per Wikipedia, the Truman Delusion: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truman_Show_delusion

This movie hits way different as an adult ! This came out when I was in high school and it was good but as I got older, the movie is different to me. In my adult years I see it as a phenomenal movie !! The acting, the story, the morals, it’s so good !!

Michele G

Wow ! You’re right ! It does fit ! I was going to copy and paste but it’s so long ! But that is pretty cool ! I love reading about Easter eggs. Bc in so bad at finding them 😂 all these reaction channels finding out so much about the movies I love !

Michele G

I love when that happens !! I didn’t get it either and I found Truman show AND sons of Anarchy!! My lucky day too !

Michele G

I believe his adopted dad truly loved him as a son and his mom was in it for the fame. That huge portrait of herself over the fireplace 🙄. His dad came back to try to tell him, so to me it shows he really loved him. So In your sequel I would loved some flashbacks of his adopted dad being in his life in the real world.

Michele G

Thank you! 😊

NEXT Jim Carey Reaction: FUN WITH DICK AND JANE 🙏❤️

Add The Number 23 to the Jim Carrey list. It's a must see and the opposite side of his acting spectrum and usually slept on. Also BJ mentions Mr. Rogers several times, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood starring Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers is an amazing movie.

What Truman saw in their wedding photo was her crossing her fingers behind her back. So…. She was getting married but she didn’t mean it. Doesn’t love him because she’s an actress and the wedding doesn’t count for her. The next day when she was rushing off for her fake surgery he said, “I’ll cross my fingers for you.” She sort of freezes and looks at him.

Pink Martini AZ

Welcome back Julie!

Pink Martini AZ

Her crossing her fingers in the wedding picture means that the vows they just took she didn’t mean them because she crossed her fingers.

Jenny Seigel

Gotta watch 2011 version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

David Croft-Ogawa

So glad you two had this one on your list and watched it. You seem to enjoy his movies and this one is amazing

Jenny Seigel

You too!!

Julie A

Hey Julie A!! We've missed you too!! Hope you're having a wonderful week.

Asia and BJ

"Stairway to Heaven" You called it Asia!

Kyndu

I’ve missed y’all so much! Just watched this and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (the other night). I can’t wait to watch your reaction to Ferris Bueller. I hope you liked it! xx

Julie A

Hi Rowan! Miss you!!!

Julie A

The set is not on the moon 😂 but great movie/reaction! A sequal to this has so much untapped potential. His first 30 years were on set, the could show current day Jim & a flash back of how the next 30 years went.. did he find love? Did he have kids? Did he meet his real parents? Did he have trouble adapting to “real” life? Depression? Did he confront the corporation who adopted him? Was there another/new season of a different person after Truman? It could go so many different directions & current day Jim Carrey would be perfect as it’s 30 years later in real life.. Trumanshow 2 would be an absolute banger!

Isvvx

It has to be a simulation at this point!! Lol.. things are getting stranger out there everyday!!

Rebecca Karsner

This was such a great film to revisit! I absolutely love this movie. The concept is fascinating and the execution of it was amazing. Jim Carrey is so great at being the funny man and the serious man. Also really loved his "wife" played by Laura Linney, she was hilarious in this! You guys have seen her in The Exercism of Emily Rose.. she was the lawyer defending the Priest. I also completely forgot about Paul Giamatti being in this! That man is an amazing actor. Him and Jim Carrey are in another great movie called Man on the Moon that I hope you guys check out someday! It's based on a true story as well!! And yes Asia he found the stairway to heaven! 🤣 Lol how do you think he became Bruce Almighty?? Lol 😁 😛 Anyways glad you guys reacted to this and really seemed to enjoy it!! Happy Friday everyone!! 😊

Rebecca Karsner

I used to live in the town next to where they shot this movie. This town is called Seaside, Florida. We were just there in December and it still looks the same. That’s not a movie set, that’s exactly what the town looks like 365. I remember the headlines in the Destin Log that said Hollywood comes to Seaside Florida! Everyone in our tiny town was hoping to get a look at the Hollywood folks.

Head Trauma Heather

This is my favorite Jim Carrey movie. Yeah his comedies are gold but this one was special. Ahead of it's time in so many ways while still being creepy af. Asia, girl, I said the EXACT same thing about the stairs when I watched it...I also answered back when the creator first spoke: "God?" It's one of those rare gems you come across that's going to stand the test of time. I'm happy you guys watched it.

Rowan

This movie scared the shit out of me when I was younger. I was paranoid that i was being watched too lol

Jeff

I love this movie. The Majestic is another great Jim Carrey movie.

Dan Gershgol

The "Stairway to Heaven" comment had me rolling too, not only BJ 😂

MrSlowFloww

The funny thing about this movie and that it came out in 1998 and it is so relavent to today's world. Celebrity babies on born on camera and the life they live is all they know and orchestrated by a director or producer for reality TV. I love this movie for so many different reasons. I'm glad I was able to watch this with ya'll. Great reaction!

Sean G

The concept is based on a few common ideas that some TV shows and Movies pull from. The Truman show and the Matrix are two of the obvious ones. That "what if" ...

SwO Beatz

Nowadays The Truman Show feels like a documentary. The game is definitely rigged lol

Richard

Yo I didn't get the notification! Man I'm glad I randomly opened the app this is a great movie, diving in now✌❤ fam enjoy!

Darth Brooks

Second post - seen this a bunch of times but for the first time noticed the sail on the end of the boat had the number 139 on it. I have always loved Psalm 139 from the Bible and just looked it up again…. Read Psalm 139 and tell me that at least the first part is not directly how this movie is. That cannot be an accident.

Bill Bliss

This movie is amazing and perfect to watch a reaction video to. Seen it a bunch of times and was really watching Asia and BJ as they unraveled the mystery! Awesome!

Bill Bliss

The light that fell was a star in the sky.

Brett

Myrill was crossing her fingers in their wedding photo, being that she's just an actress, so it's like she faked her vows for tv

Dan Gonya

I used to watch this all the time

Nicole

Excited to watch this with you guys!! It's been awhile since I've seen it!!

Rebecca Karsner

This is a movie everyone should see at least once! It’s so good especially for the time it came out. One of Jim Carey’s best roles

Rawgers

Love this movie, can’t wait to watch with you guys!!

Russ D

Well, Alrighty Then!!! This movie is Smokin!!! Seriously yo. This is the one movie that came along where Jim Carrey wasn’t his over the top usual self and it worked brilliantly. I thought he was great in it, as well as Laura Linney, Paul Giamatti, Ed Harris and the rest of the cast. What a very cool creative concept about reality TV. Thanks. Funyuns and snacks locked and loaded. ☮️💙🍿

Jesse

Great pick!
