One per year (so by 18, they would have 7 if not selected yet) and you could get more things you need, like food, goods, etc in exchange for putting your name in more times. So he bartered for a lot of food or other items that brought his entries up to 42

It's amazing but I wouldn't drag out the time between films too much because they are really good at telling the story and putting in details but they don't continue to retell important details over and over like some movies do. . There is very little excess in these movies, meaning if they bothered to put it into the movie, then it's important! So, if you can, watch the next movie while the previous one is still fresh in your mind, it's the best way to enjoy the.

Please don’t wait too long to watch the rest of the series. I haven’t been able to watch your movie picks as my husband of 52+ years died suddenly in February and it is still very raw and it has been a tough road to get to a place where I can watch and enjoy spending time with both of you. I was horrified by the whole concept of the “games”, as we all were, but having kids in that age group nearly wrecked me. You get so drawn into the characters, you feel you are there with them. The movies did a pretty good job of telling the story. So glad you enjoyed it!

The other movies are really really good !! I actually like them more than the first bc they go into a lot of things you may be confused by during the first !

Not sure if anyone else explained but the berries that were in the bowl for Seneca Crane the gamemaker was the poison nightlock berries that Katniss and Peta were going to take to kill themselves at the end of the game. So President Snow was basically telling Seneca to kill himself because he messed up. Thanks again.

I'm a grown ass man, and I still cry every time when Rue gets got. It was even sadder in the book. Those dog monsters were way creepier in the books too because they were genetically modified to have the eyes of all the other fallen tributes and they look like part human, part dog hybrids. Can't wait to see what you guys think of the next one!

You can get a years worth of rations like basic food staples, oil etc for ONE person if someone who is eligible enters their name. So at 12 you are entered once. At 13 twice etc. So at 18, the age Gale is, your name would be entered 7 times. Due to helping to supply his family with tessera (supplies) He got additonal supplies to feed his family each year. So by my math (i'm horrible at math) each year he signed up for 5 tessera, one for each member of his family. Thats why Katniss when saying goodbye to Prim before the games said don't take any extra food from them, it isn't worth putting your name in more times. And yes Peeta did feed Katniss once. It was after he father had died and her mom checked out mentally for awhile. They were starving to death and that bread was the first food Katniss had had in awhile. It gave her the strength to fight and go out and start hunting, something her father had taught her. Hunting was not allowed in the districts and they were actually leaving the district to hunt but that is how Katniss ensured her family would survive. Last thing those dogs were so much more terrifying in the books because they had the eyes of a fallen tribute. At one point Katniss is chased by a hound with Rue's eyes. It is horrying to think about. Haymitch is understandable when you think about it. He won his games and every year he has to train these kids he knows are going to die. No one from 12 would be able to afford to send gifts so he is really wasting his time trying to get anything. Sponsers generally would not like the poor kids. He has lost himself to sorrow and alcohol. You will find out more about what the captial does to the victors in the subsequent movies so I don't want to spoil anything.

Ironically, he "suggested" that the coordinator "resign" by putting him in a locked room with a bowlful of those poisonous berries, the same way the star--crossed lovers would have died had they eaten the berries at the end.

It’s very expensive to send them, and he worked to secure the money from sponsors to send them in. Pannem is a dystopian, authoritarian country that is founded on the land that used to be the United States. President Snow is a tyrant, and rules by fear. The people in the capitol are the very top of the social ladder. Then district 1, then district 2, etc. So district 12 is the lowest, poorest, most neglected district. People are literally starving to death commonly. Starting at age 12, your name is entered once for the reaping. But you can sign up for rations of food from the government in exchange for putting your name in more times. So the kids from the poorest families have a higher chance of being chosen. That’s why Gail had his name in so many times. He has taken food to feed his younger siblings. And Katniss has taken rations in her name, but refuses to allow Prim to do so. Please do the other 3 movies. They are worth it, and get much more into the politics at play.

He has no more choice about being there than Peeta and Katniss do. And he has tremendous ptsd from what he experienced in his own games, but also bc the capitol killed his family and girlfriend to punish him for not playing by their rules. Plus, he has been forced to mentor two kids every year, and watched them die. The movies also fail to convey how strong Peeta is, but also how smart and skilled he is at talking to people. The movies make him look weaker than he does in the books. But still a great series. The second movie of the series is actually my favorite. Hope you do the whole series.

The movies received their fair share of criticism because of the subject matter. Many parents refused to let their young children see these films despite their popularity. I understand the concerns, but I think if you look around at our society today, given starving families, homelessness, gun control, bankruptcy, rebellion against government policies and politicians, bullying, denying resources to those in most need, the haves versus the have-nots and constant war around the globe... I don't think it's too far fetched. I hope you watch the remaining 2 movies in the trilogy. It's a way to understand how things can develop in a society, despite all beliefs to the contrary.
