This movie has been a family favorite since it came out! I was only nine years old then, and I didn't understand the weight of the storyline until I was older. It's SO crazy how far technology has come in forty years! With Russia starting a war with Ukraine, World War III may not be far off! It's so scary to think about!!! We, as humans, could very well be the cause of our own extinction!

24:32: I was young and had a lot to learn about computers in 1982. In fact that was the year I touched one for the first time. But watching this now is a real trip. That computer you see at his desk that is blue with red buttons (the IMSAI)? It was ancient (circa 1975) and absolutely obsolete by the time this movie came out. It looked the part, but only if you didn't know any better, which as a pre-teen I did not. 52:30: Seeing Matthew Broderick refer to Ally Sheedy as "Jennifer" makes me wonder what a disaster Back to the Future might have been if Robert Zemeckis had received financing for the movie in 1982 when he first tried. I can totally see these two getting the parts of Marty and Jennifer. And that would have sucked by Broderick just isn't a very good actor. That said, he is let down in this movie by poorly-written dialogue and poor direction. I enjoyed this movie 42 years ago, but I see how mediocre it really was now. 58:40: And I see that Mr Strictland from Back to the Future is in the movie too! How appropriate. 1:50:40: For all the films' faults, that right there was one of the most important movie moments of the entire Cold War. The realization that both the Soviet Union and the United States were both absolutely insane for making enough nuclear weapons to end all life on Earth as such a war could not possibly have a winner and that the living survivors would envy the dead, whose suffering was over. The so-called "Greatest Generation" nearly got us all killed needlessly.

18:40: Yo BJ! A fellow Galaga man! I never would have guessed given our age differences.

Patrick Mondout

Have you seen Ferris Bueller’s Day Off? It’s one of my favorite Matthew Broderick movies along with Lady Hawk.

Cynthia M Farrington

Old school real hacking

Jerry

I grew up in the Cold War. Want to fuck with yourselves and understand how bad it was - watch the TV (early 80s on network) Day After Tomrrow.

Jerry

Please put it up to a vote

Jerry

Matthew Broddrick's greatest film role = GLORY GREATEST CIVIL WAR MOVE = GETTYSBURG. I would love for you to watch them one after another.

Jerry

Sorry this comment was meant “The Count of Monte Cristo”

Awilda Luciano

i can still here " do you want to play a game" every time I hear about war news around the world. Truely an eyeopener.

jason

As a Cold War baby born in the 1980s, I often hope that younger Generations born in the last decade or so understand the significance of nuclear war.

Mike the Ginger

So for some context in the beginning the reason they don’t need to call someone on the phone is because once those orders go to the silos the men down there know it only comes from the president once verified another great movie along this topic is crimson tide with gene Hackman and Denzel Washington great movie

3BeerThunder

Good one!! Every person on the planet is inputting and "teaching" AI now-- it's hard to fathom its abilities, or most importantly, its inclinations!

Quiche

I didn’t know Barry Corbin in that role only because I didn’t follow that show but knew I him from Northern Exposure and The Closer as Kyra Sedgwick‘s dad. And of course Better Call Saul.

Jesse

Asia. I thought you were referring to Jim but it was obviously Melvin. I was tired last night and as Justtired pointed out, no pun intended, he was the voice you thought he was in Polar Express….In 2004, Eddie Deezen supplied voice and motion capture performance for Robert Zemeckis' holiday film The Polar Express, playing the role of the nerdy "Know-It-All". He reprised this role for the subsequent video game. 👍

Jesse

I think she was referring to that nerdy skinny guy with the weird voice. I think he was in a handful of stuff in 70’s & 80’s. Eugene in Grease? And I think he was in 1941 with John Belushi.

I remember I use to fall asleep to the movie all the time as a kid. I never watched this movie for more than 10 minutes. Now that I am grown up and a retired United States Airforce Veteran that actually use to do maintenance calls down in those silos, this movie hits way different. I loved this movie, and it does shows how situations can escalate in a heartbeat and the average Joe does not have a clue what goes on with our government. This was a great what if movie, great reaction again and thank you to whoever requested this.

Pop_Pop_Taq

Close Encounters of the Third Kind started it all in 1977. Spielberg directed it and it’s a classic SiFi thriller

Dan63

Yay!! This movie is more realistic than most people think. The 1979 incident was real (although much different than the movie portrayed), and we almost went extinct because a computer simulation at NORAD was actually mistaken for a real attack and almost resulted in a nuclear exchange. Thanks for doing this reaction!

CALIXYUKON

Any OTH fans in here? If so did you notice the younger Coach Whitey Durham in this? Great reaction as always haven't seen this movie since the early 90s and it holds up well.

Darth Brooks

Great Reaction! Jim Caviezel has some gems out there besides this one including: -The Passion of the Christ directed by Mel Gibson, -Sound of Freedom-true story -Deja Vu-also starring Denzel Washington 😊 keep them coming

Awilda Luciano

Great catch Asia. Malvin is indeed played by Eddie Deezen, the actor who voiced the Know-it-all kid in Polar Express

Justtired

True, you could walk 20 feet anywhere outside and find one of those soda can tabs. Where are those zillions of tabs now? Buried in the earth? Ahhhh the 80’s and the Cold War! We need to make it a theme. Red Dawn, No Way Out, Miracle and soon Rocky IV.

Pink Martini AZ

I have always loved this movie.

Dan Gershgol

Asia. Maury Chaykin is the actor who played the computer system designer Jim Sting in this flick. I couldn’t find any credits on him doing a voice from “Polar Express. “ I did recognize his face from two big movies though. He played Major Fambrough in “ Dances with Wolves.” His character was the alcoholic who sent Kevin Costner to the outermost post before wetting and shooting himself. And he played Sam Tipton in “ My Cousin Vinny.” His character was the first witness who Vinny questioned about grits taking 5 minutes to cook on his stove. Classic characters yo. Sadly he passed in 2010 at age 61.

Jesse

What a lesson.....the question is----have we learned. I hope so...I hope so.

BRENDA

Love this movie yo!!! "The only winning move is not to play” is actually a valuable life lesson. Sometimes no moves are the best moves in anything in life. Anyway, Barry Corbin, best known for the TV series “Northern Exposure,” was General Beringer in this film. He was a lot younger here in War Games (1983), so you may not recognize him from “Better Call Saul.” He played Everett Acker. The stubborn old dude who hired Saul to keep his home. Thanks for this Asia ,BJ and Fam. ☮️💙

Jesse

The software David was using to dial all those phone numbers became known as "War Dialing Software" thanks to this movie.

Bryan Sproles

One of the guys who went down in the elevator in the first minute of the movie was Mr. Blue from Resevoir Dogs. The guy who pulled the gun when having to turn the key.

Jesse McAdams

Oh brilliant choice guys and it's great to see you fine people continuing to do the wide range of movies suggested to you by the patrons. And this is a beauty of a choice.

James Forrest

oh him. Brodrick killed two people in Ireland in 1987 with Baby from dirty Dancing in the car. Head on collision when he crossed the line. He was fined $175 and never once apologized to the family of the two women he killed. Hollywood.

JessicaB

never heard of it, lets go :)

JessicaB

No. Effing. Way. This is not real. This movie meant so much to me and my older brother when we were kids. The only time we weren’t fighting was when this was on the TV. I so cannot wait to watch this!!
