The Outsiders

The Outsiders

Comments

So fun to watch this one again, I saw it and read the book too sooooo long ago in high school. Asia cracking me up before the rumble, she's gonna call the police and BJ said we're gonna leave you at home LOL!!!

CD

It was mentioned in the newspaper that they were charging Johnny with Manslaughter. Conversation just changed fast to the boys home.

Carolee Barry

Never heard of this. Fun to see so many good actors so young in the same movie.

Dan Gershgol

Your right. I listed that elsewhere. Remember the Slap sequence?

George Bakis

I would add In the Heat of the Night to the Poitier must see list.

Dan Gonya

They really don't need to watch the one with Jaden Smith. 🤣

Dan Gonya

It's amazing how much Diane Lane looked like Mandy Moore back then!

Dan Gonya

Crossing my fingers for "Sons of Anarchy" 🤞 to be on your list of series up for reaction

Jen Hurlburt

Y'all, Flea (bass player Red Hot Chili Peppers) was 20 yrs old when he filmed this 😂

Jen Hurlburt

All I got out of this was….Asia has never seen the Karate kid !!??? Whaaaaaat ?? Come on BJ !!!

Michele G

Great Reaction! Haven’t seen that movie in forever. Now you have to react Karate Kid 1-3, then the remake with Jackie Chan and Jayden Smith

Awilda Luciano

The Outsiders! Loved this way back then....Just realised how old I am, lol! Good one! Emilio Estavez, Matt Dillon, Rob Lowe, Tom Cruise, Ralph Macchio Patrick Swayze?? Damn! What a cast!

ChipmunkFF

You have to do The Cotton Club. That’s another Francis Ford Copala movie like The Outsiders and the Godfather. If you think the Outsiders cast was great The Cotton Club is on steroids. So much young gifted talent that becomes superstars 20 years later.

Leon Jones

Soul Man with C. Thomas Howell is his best movie and very very funny. I think they would really enjoy that film. 🏀

N M

They need to watch Karate Kid first, to have maximum effect

N M

I LOVED Matt Dillon. I always adored The Flamingo Kid.

Pink Martini AZ

What a big surprise to see you react to this classic. All these actors when they were so young! Cutie Patooties! I had such a thing for Matt Dillon and had posters of him on my wall. It seems like the most active one these days is Rob Lowe. Another cutie! My husband and I just saw he’s going to be hosting some new game show in January. I think it’s called the Floor? You think Tom looks young here? You should check out TAPS. It has young Tom Cruise, young Sean Penn and Timothy Hutton.

Pink Martini AZ

Those short “flooded” pants as worn by the Socias were the style in the 1950s, not that 1980s as Asia speculated 😂 And with regard to Ralph Macchio as Johnny in this movie and also being in The Karate Kid, if Asia has never seen The Karate Kid, that must be one of your next films to watch! This is a must see!

N M

OMG I'm so thrilled for this! I'm glad you watched the original and not the newly remastered film which has a different soundtrack that changes the tone of the movie. Thank you for this upload and reaction!

Dana

Dang I haven't watched this movie in years. One of my favorites as a young person.

Andi Szilagyi

How bout them Cowboys!

N M

You guys should watch Cobra Kai as the next tv show.

William Abbott

Omg. Lol. To the point and I agree!!

Kim Cottingham

Your right I forgot that film

George Bakis

I believe Malkovich was in it

George Bakis

BJ: That would be me right there. Asia: They ain't showed me yet! Me:😂😂😂😭😂

Darth Brooks

Just the first one though. Maybe 2.

Dustin

DRUGSTORE COWBOY! 😁

Dustin

I always think of DRUGSTORE COWBOY when I think of Matt Dillon. I freakin' love that movie.

Dustin

The Karate Kid came out a year after this in 1984 and one of the actors in that movie was a big fan of Ralph Macchio. When they started filming, he kept saying “It’s Johnny from The Outsiders” If you guys decide to watch those 3 movies, then you can watch the TV show Cobra Kai which picks up 35 years after the movies.

Tara

Do Rumble Fish. Matt Dillion, same director Francis Ford Coppola, same year, sort of the same story, Instead of greasers, they're rebels. Beautifully shot. Diane Lane, who played Cherry, plays his girlfriend.

Stevie Sandoval

Hey A&B, The Director, Francis Ford Coppola, released a new version of the movie recently called “The Outsiders: the complete novel” which has about 25 more minutes that had been cut from the beginning and the end of this original movie. In that version, The movie opens with Ponyboy coming out of a movie theater and getting jumped by some socs and other scenes where we learn more about Ponyboy and his brothers and their friends before they get to the drive in. There are more scenes of Ponyboy and Johnny at the church and it also showed Cherry, Ponyboy testifying about the stabbing. There’s also a scene near the end with Ponyboy at school and the teacher tells him that he needs to write an essay about a life experience to pass his class which is why we see him starting to write “When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie…” He is basically writing about his experience from when the movie started with him at the movies.

Tara

Everybody who was a big thing in the 80's or 90's just about was in this movie; Ralph Macchio-Karate Kid. . Matt Damon, C.Thomas Howell, Tom Cruise, Patrick Swayze, Emilio Stephan from Breakfast Club. . They're just everywhere! GOOD LAWD!

Wendy Garner

yep I was born in Tulsa. My friend lived down the street from the house used in The Outsiders. We used to always walk in the neighborhood where they were.

Kdeezy Baby

The 80's, C. Thomas Howell looks way younger in this than in Red Dawn. If you havent seen that movie, i recommend it as well. Patrick Swayze is in that film to.

Renaldo

Wow!! Taking me back to 8th grade english class.. Had to read the book and write a paper on it, teacher made us watch the movie afterwards I remember.. It's funny, even at 13 yrs old after reading the book and watchn' this, I remeber I was then fully aware of what "class" of people my friends and family were considered in my childhood town.. Always felt like the only dude missing in this cast was Sean Penn.. Thanks for the video Asia & BJ!!

PastaDon

its time for the karate kid

sean shepard

Tulsa, around 1965

Brina Blue

The Book came out in 1967. The time period is the mid 60s in Tulsa and there are so many clues pointing to this. The movies at the dive-ins are dead on as are the the preppy styles of the Soc's. It didn't make the movie, but in the book, one of the things spoken about at the theater was how the girls liked The Beatles but how Johnny and Ponyboy still liked Elvis because he was tough.

Brina Blue

Great movie, finish Dexter

Justin Freeman

Yes that's the one I like. They did one past 25 years too.

George Bakis

Matt Dillon was the guy half the girls from my generation had a major thing for! He was probably the most well known actor of the group when this first came out. He tended to play the emotional badboys - was pretty typecast for a while. Some of his other 80s films were Rumble Fish, My Bodyguard, The Flamingo Kid.

Kimberly Tyda

And it's Oklahoma

Jennifer

Repo man is a great cult following flim

Lewsifer

I only saw the original one from the 1930s

Lewsifer

Which Mice and Men film do you prefer? Have you seen the older one too?

George Bakis

"Socs"...short for "socialites".

Jennifer

RAISIN IN THE SUN also PATCH OF BLUE both with great SIDNEY POITIER and both have a serious ensemble of actors from Theater and Screen.

George Bakis

Emilio REPO Estevez and Matt MY BODYGUARD Dillon. Too bad some can't relate to films. A wonderful film with lots of atmosphere. Thanks Asia & B.J.

George Bakis

Thanx guys, one of my favorite books/movies that I had to read, also I'll suggest check out my other two favorite books/movies raisin in the sun and of mice and man. Matt Dillon was in a great comedy there's something about Mary. The last thing the story took place in a small town in Oklahoma in the 1950s.

Lewsifer

Wow!!! Thank you so much for doing this movie, directed by the great Francis Ford Coppola only a couple of years after directing Godfather 1 & 2. In fact, his daughter was the little girl asking for a dime from Dallas at the Dairy Queen (her acting was also credited with being a contributing factor in ruining Godfather 3, but now she is a wonderful director in her own right). The writer of the book is also in the movie (the nurse who Dallas gave a hard time to in the hospital). Francis Ford Coppola released his own extended version just a few years ago (on HBO Max app) when school kids requested he include more missing scenes from the book. It's really good. I loved the book and this movie (so many famous actors before they got really famous - Emilio Esteves before Breakfast Club, Tom Cruise before Top Gun, Ralph Machio before Karate Kid, Patrick Swayze before Dirty Dancing and Rob Lowe before St. Elmo's Fire). Thanks for posting. Everyone always knows what you are talking about when you say "stay gold Ponyboy"

Mary Merry Berry

Thanks for another great movie! It's been a while since I've seen this!! I got 3 days off in a row coming up! Gonna have a movie marathon with these last few drops you guys did!! 😁

Rebecca Karsner

Danna
