Night of the Living Dead

Night of the Living Dead

Comments

A classic, in both the birth of the modern zombie, and a testament to race relations. The first time I watched it a few years ago I was floored. So much respect for director George Romero and the cast and crew πŸ’œ

Kelsey Perez

This was 67, so we're talking 3 years (y'all that's 2020...feels not too far ago, right?) after the Civil Rights Act passed. This is one year before some dog murders MLK. You have a black male lead with a white woman supporting and a white man directing, and the thing isn't preachy. It's a movie. You can actually fade the social commentary if you want and not see it. But the history of it, the era, and the statement at the end of our main character being shot before even given the chance to show he was human... man that's wild for '67 and it's a cult hit to boot, AND it's responsible for the zombie genre.

Potato Jones

Another great reaction. Yea, that ending hit hard

Jah (jakwiq) (Jah Quick)

Hey Asia and BJ. Thought I'd share an anecdote. George Romero the director and the father of the modern day zombies said while filming this movie they were told Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated and he decided to make the main character's death more meaningful as well as make a statement about today's society and how we rush to judge without thinking.

JL Green

Hope ya'll check out "The Blair Witch Project"

Yum

Im glad you got to watching this. Nice to know where it all started.

Dan Gershgol

My first time seeing this. What a treat! I love your reaction videos, Asia and BJ! Keep up the great work.

Cynthia M Farrington

On a shoe string budget Romero created this classic...and started the zombie genre as we know it today. Was ahead of its time for sure. Great reactions from you guys as always...its been a fun Halloween month!!!

tek

My absolute favorite movie quote. "They're coming to get you Barbara"

Alexis Thompson

We have not watched Sons of Anarchy yet.

Asia and BJ

Sorry! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Asia and BJ

I love watching movies with you guys, y'all both a trip lol. I hope y'all react to Scream 3, Jeepers Creepers 2, Alien 3 Assembly Cut and Brandon Lee's The Crow soon. Look forward to watching the next one with y'all. Oh and have y'all watched Sons of Anarchy yet.

Jackson Napier

That’s one brave Brotha smackin’ up and shootin’ white folks in 1968. Go head Ben πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Asia scared the he double L out of me when she sneezed !!!

Core memory unlocked. Back in the 80s maybe I was 5 or 6 years old, my dad showed this to my 2 cousins and myself. They lived the next street over, between that street was about 70 yards of cemetery. So my dad and the 3 of us cut through the cemetery to walk them home and out of nowhere my dad quietly but horrified yells "What in the hell is that!?!" and takes off running back to the house leaving us 3 boys petrified, in the middle of night, in a cemetery, after watching this at 6, 8 and 9 years old. The good old days πŸ˜‚

Darth Brooks

This is a real cemetery that you can go visit today. This scared the crap out of you when this came out . It wasn't the first zombie movie ever made but it was the one that made zombies a part or todays fascination for fear and Romero was the king along with Tom Savini. Savini is a part of zombie movies today. Back in the day you could steer the car without the motor running . Notice how smart the zombies were one broke the window with a rock . Also women weren't fighter now a days yes we would be bashing their heads in and going for the next one. I would be a Carol ( off the Walking Dead )

Lisa Rhodes

"Yo! Hi-de-hi-de-ho! Hello from the other side." -Asia πŸ˜† "They eatin' chitlins..." -BJ πŸ˜‚ Hilarious. Thanks for spending the night with us A&B! And as always... You're the best! πŸ‘

Dustin

George A. Romero began the whole "Zombie" movie industry. Notice the word "Zombie" was never used - it wasn't even a known word yet, other than in Haitian Voodoo, where I think it was spelled "Zombi". Romero also made a massive mistake when he made this movie - he accidentally removed the copyright notice in the credits, putting the movie into the Public Domain, which means he couldn't make any money on it. Without "Night of the Living Dead", there probably wouldn't have been MJ's "Thriller", or even The Walking Dead. Awesome reaction as usual :)

Bryan Sproles

Glad you did the black and white version

Everett (PixelMight) Baker

This is where it all begins as far zombies. To say this is a classic as well an important movie that broke barriers in the evolution of film is an understatement. Should be mandatory that everyone watch this every Halloween. Awesome pick!

Em Gomez

πŸ˜† I have been doing the same thing.... Thinking to myself, "I can't watch this right now, I have to wait and watch this with Asia and BJ!"

Dustin

Me waiting for a new upload, burns through the entire new season of Shoresy last night. All because I couldn't find anything to watch for Halloweekend that I hoped to see y'all react to πŸ˜‚ Here's to hoping for Pet Sematary (original) before the month ends ✌❀ fam!

Darth Brooks

This is such a classic. Great reaction

Richard

Another classic! My dad used to watch this movie a lot when I was younger. I don't remember much so this will be a funwatch later on! πŸŽƒπŸ‘»

Rebecca Karsner

Me: they are gonna be SO surprised at the ending of this movie! Asia: calls the ending 90 seconds before it happens... πŸ˜‚

Kimberly Tyda

Pet Sematary will mess Asia up! Let's do it, lol.

Renee S

Awesome you guys doing this classic!

Yum

The 90's version is way easier to watch since it's in color and there's not as many shadows. I recommend Arachnophobia, Life, and Pet Cemetery before the month ends.

Jesse McAdams

Would love to see more reactions to classic movies. πŸ₯°

Stacey Capito

They're coming for you Barbara! Love this movie. So glad you did the one in B&W. Romero was brilliant. Another filmaker, like Hitchcock, that didn't fold to societal film expectations and norms.

Stacey Capito

Stacey Capito

This is always a good watch. It was fun to see Asia and BJ enjoying it.

Renee S

Tony Todd Is so good in that

Richard

Just like on train to Busan, when she's singing coming out of the tunnel...he should of yelled something, not just peak out window, now we knowπŸ€£πŸ˜±πŸ§ŒπŸ§Ÿβ€β™‚οΈ

Deborah Lewis

Agreed!!!

Kyndu

Hope you guys get to watch the original Dawn of the Dead and also Day of the dead!

David Williams

Can't beat a classic! Thank you both, this is such a good movie. I can't believe its only 3 days left until Halloween and the end of Spooktober. Its flown by.

SilverDoeπŸŽ”

My dad took my brother and me to see this in the late 70s at a student union movie theater. We were in elementary school, and he thought it would be a hoot for us to hang out with the college kids cheering and shouting at the screen. It was all fun and games until the half eaten body showed up on the stairs, and then we were like NOPE! Get us out of here! I love horror movies now, but this film still kinda gives me the creeps.

Mic

Prior to this film, zombies were generally depicted as mindless servants created through voodoo, to do their master's bidding, whatever that may entail, and they were somewhat creepy, but they just sort of stumbled around and more or less faded into the background scenery. But they weren't the terrifying flesh-eating monsters George Romero turned them into in this! He created an entirely new monster with this film, and it was quite shocking and revolutionary for it's time! Thank you guys for doing this, MY ALLTIME FAVORITE HORROR FILM! An interesting side note ~ during the news broadcasts in this film, they are listing local towns where people can find rescue stations. My grandmother lived in western Pennsylvania, relatively close to where this was filmed, and I have been to many of those towns and heard of most of them! As a kid, when I saw that, I was like "HOLY SHIT! THAT'S NOT FAR FROM GRANDMA!!!" LOL I also had the pleasure to meet several of the actors in this film at a Chiller Theater convention. I met Johnny, the brother who gets killed at the beginning, and the zombie who kills him! Both very nice guys!

Michael Wise

Imagine living back then and just being able to see in black and white.

Rich

I LOVE this version, the original. So different, creative, never knew what was going to happen. Brilliant to film in B/W, adds mystery, film noir, and makes you focus. Very Hitchcock-like. You don't need screen after screen of blood and gore in living color to be a scary movie. The ending is so 'effin brilliant, as well. Can't wait to watch your reactions... Asia will laugh and hide behind the blankie at the same time. BJ will laugh and tell her to watch the movie, while announcing everything she's missing. I love you two! Best reaction channel ever! Now I can do laundry and watch at the same time. Multitasking at its best. I hope I don't fold stuff wrong, I hate having to refold!

Rose Dallman

I haven't seen this one either. Looking forward to it.

Brenda Galvez

Classic!!!

Joanie Archetto

you should be ashamed!! (jk hope you like it)

Ekk

Just randomly checked patreon and saw you guys posted this, you guys really are the best. Happy Halloweekend. Also! that 90s remake has the horror legend Tony Todd.

Ekk

No way, just opened app. My Saturday night's got a lot less shit. Love you guys! The 90's remake is decent too. I also recommend the Father Ted spoof episode.

Rich

I should be ashamed that I've never watched this but I really never have watched this lol. Looks like you guys are getting me with a first time watch here that hardly ever happens. Thank you guys so much! Hope everyone enjoys it!
