Ali would put Bruce Lee down within 4 seconds. Mike Tyson would put him down in 2. Bloke could not fight. It's crazy how people still believe in his God-like abilities.

I really think in this moment he remembers the last thing chuck said to him before he died in the episode prior, "why have regrets when you just keep hurting people", he realizes he shouldnt have regrets because he seemingly will never stop this cycle and he doesnt until he is in prison

They said they were going to call him back in a week originally before he decided to go back in and try them a second time, and then he does the bridge burning thing with them. Maybe so he wouldn't have to ever talk to them again after he had decided he was going to steal the figurine? I dunno... it's a bit of blurry reasoning in that sequence.
