Better Call Saul S2. E3 and E4

Better Call Saul S2. E3 and E4

Comments

Chuck is a white-collar loon as much as Tuco is on his side of the tracks. Chuck is petty, controlling, conniving, smug. He likes Jimmy in the trenches and no where near his high pastures. You see how angry he was when Jimmy got his degree and then a job? Chuck eeks the worst out of Jimmy and enjoys it by shriveling up in pain in the dark tomb of his house whenever Slip'n Jimmy slides in. I think the writers did a great job of showing just how much Jimmy needed Chuck's validation but he never got it. Jimmy was and always has been in Chuck's shadow, held there by the chains Chuck draped around Jimmy's neck. Chains of guilt and inability. Jimmy lives in humiliation under Chuck's thumb and he hates it and strikes back in various ways, good or bad.

BJ crackin' me up with his old lady commercial face!🤣 Benjamin Franklin wasn't president tho...you probably knew that, I'm just sayin'😁

Dan Gonya

This was great. BJ, speaking of sales jobs, if you want the ultimate salesman high pressure gig, you guys should watch the movie 'Glengarry Glen Ross'. Al Pacino, Ed Harris, Jack Lemon, Kevin Spacey, Jonathan Price, Alan Arkin, and Alec Baldwin! I wouldn't last a day at their gig.

Tuco getting arrested this time is what lead to Tuco meeting Skinny Pete. Remember in Breaking Bad he told Jesse they shared cell together.

1:22:51 Bj , I'm suprised u didn't recognize Krazy-8 talking too Tuco. Krazy-8 is even wearing Tampico Furniture shirt. Showing he was still working for his dad

Josh

My dad has the M-40 bolt action rifle. He has the A-3 model though, not the A-1 like in the scene

Josh

But Jimmy didn’t really “cut corners” with the video. He just didn’t run it by them first. When Kim asked if he had run it by the dude, that’s when it struck him that maybe they would see it differently than he did. Jimmy has always been an “it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission”. The video was by the book, but it bordered on exploitation. But you’re right, he does cut corners a lot. I have a similar mindset of “work smarter, not harder” and society gives major mixed signals when it comes to that philosophy.

man I swear, the BB lore masters are amazing at keeping track of stuff. This is my third time watching the show (Better Call Saul at least) and I would've never picked up on these connections even after watching Asia and BJ watching BB. Amazing people

I like that Nacho initially met Mike while doing business with the idiot in the yellow hummer (did you notice the colors from BB) but he immediately respected Mike enough to approach him to get rid of Tuco. Mike is such a great character. This show starts 6 years before BB and we see Tuco towards the end of BB first season, so is it safe to assume he’s in jail for about 7 years before he goes into business with Walt and Jesse.

When Jimmy was in front of the bosses and he couldn’t understand what he did wrong by airing the commercial, it’s because Jimmy just can’t see it. That’s just not who Jimmy is. Kim, Chuck, Davis and Harry all want Jimmy to to everything by the book and Jimmy honestly doesn’t see anything wrong with cutting corners. He honestly thought the bosses wouldn’t have a problem with the commercial. Just like he didn’t understand why Kim had such a problem with him “falsifying evidence” in the previous episode when Jimmy had that guy make the video with the pies. In Jimmy’s eyes, he hasn’t done anything wrong. Jimmy’s not built to do to everything by the book, he’s built to cut corners.

Tara

Series High Point for sure. And for me.....well....unfortunately, there was only one way to go from there. But you are correct, Season 4 was an absolute killer.

Mantis

Little pig, little pig let me in yo!!! That little toy pig Mike was putting the batteries in for his granddaughter was the same motorized pig he used to hang on the door at Chow’s house. It distracted the guy that Lydia hired to kill Mike. And I’ll huff and I’ll puff and then I’ll sneak in through the back door and do you in. The BB references in this show are awesome yo.

Jesse

Damn right.

Mike not murdering a man isn't about him not wanting to be caught. If you have empathy, you can begin to understand since he actually went through the trouble of looking into weapons and even pitched the new idea to Nacho initially --why? Just for funsies? No, he genuinely intended to murder that man with full confidence he would get away with it; he isn't exactly the type to go in half-cocked. If you can empathize with a human being, you might understand when precisely he stopped and thought and opted to cancel the plot entirely. And why he chose pain, hardship, and half the cash.

The scene with Tuco and Mike was actually carefully crafted going all the way back to Breaking Bad. If you recall, in the first few seasons of BB we don't get introduced to Tuco. Why...? Because he is locked up. The person that was in Tuco's place in that show during the first season (maybe up to the second, I can't remember), is Krazy 8 (The guy that was getting hard mugged by Tuco in the restaurant.) Like stated above, krazy 8 was the guy Walt/Jesse coin flipped to kill in the basement of Jesse's house. The set up here I think was brilliant for several reasons. 1. Tuco and Mike are probably the hardest people ever to grace the BB landscape. One is a hitman, while the other is the definition of crazy. They are also the only two who never met or came across each other in Breaking Bad. 2. The setup: This out the gate shows us as we all already know, how ruthless both men are, but how much more deadly and intelligent Mike is (Though intelligence isn't really a stretch for someone like Tuco.) Mike was pinned to take out Tuco from yards away, and there would of been nothing Tuco could of done about it. We know Mike is capable of this because of his feats in BB already. 3. On first watch, I didn't really pay too much attention to Ignacio (Nacho) Varga's character up until a key moment in a later season being so fixated on understanding Jimmy's character. This was a mistake on my part because his arc is so so significant, just keep a close eye on him because Michael Mando blows it out the park. Side note: If you remember the scene where Mike handed Kaylee (his granddaughter) a kind of windy plush toy, that is the same toy in BB that Mike used to trick the other hitman Lidia sent to kill him. He used it to cover the peephole before getting the drop from behind on the man. Also, the arms dealer is the same dealer from breaking bad.

Clockwork360

Gotta say, I watch this more for Mike than Jimmy. Mike had obviously been a sniper in Vietnam. He's also a man who lives by his own personal code. That's been well established earlier in the series. His code says murdering a man with a sniper rifle outside of war is unacceptable. He did the job in his own way. That's why I like him so much. Jimmy has no code and no moral compass. He lives by the dictates of expediency, and has no self awareness at all. He's just a two bit conman and that's all he'll ever be.

Mr Jackpots

Crazy 8! Walters kill down in Jesses basement with the bike lock.

Bill B.

You have to ask yourself why was Chuck wrapped up in the space blanket after the meeting with Howard and Kim? Was he really just tired from going to the office, or was it because he learned what Jimmy had done with running the commercial? Is he afraid that Jimmy will embarrass him or that he might actually succeed? Hmmmm

Cindy Beach

The guy that was sitting in the restaurant with Nacho and Tuco while Tuco was counting money was Krazy 8 from Breaking Bad. The guy that had the bike lock around his neck in the basement from the first couple episodes haha

Daniel

Davis and Main is a real high end law firm, they don't deal with any type of personal injury tv lawyer vibe. Jimmy is steamrolling them. This case was his, and is upset he ever had to refer it out to the big guys, and he's gonna get his no matter what's in the way. Bum bum bum, bum bum bum-bum.

Robert

Credit where it’s due… this is a really good show, but it is rather slow. I’ve seen other people react to it and it felt even SLOWER while watching them. Your reactions are different. Not once has it felt slow. I think it’s because you guys are so likable and are obviously genuinely interested in the show. Same goes for ALL of your other reactions. 💯

Sivan

Can't wait to watch this later

Davey

Yesssss was hoping we'd get this tonight! My evening just got a lot more enjoyable. Thanks!

Daniel

I did canvassing for a home improvement company in Columbus for a few months as a younger man, and I was LOUSY at that job. Mostly because you needed to convince people to buy stuff they didn't really need for way too much money, and I didn't have it in me to deceive folks. Not cause I'm so great or something- I reckon that's bare minimum decency at best haha but also because I don't have the gift like Jimmy. Not by a damn sight 😆 even though he don't always use that gift for good, he's still good at what he does.

Jake Martin

Yes!!! 👔 💼 ⚖️ 🚗

Awwww shucks. Thought we'd get Dexter tonight.
