The Godfather

The Godfather

Comments

By the way, Now that you guys have sen the Godfather and all of the Sopranos, and Casino, and Goodfellas...It's really time you guys should react the Analyze This.

Dan Gonya

It's funny that BJ should mention Sonny going "Rocky Balboa" on his brother in law cuz Talia Shire, who plays Sonny's sister, also plays Rocky's wife Adrian in Rocky.

Dan Gonya

Check out The Cotton Club (1984) for a glimpse of mob-life during the 1920's and early 1930's. Not only a good gangster story line, but also a history of jazz during the Harlem Renaissance as it pertained to The Cotton Club, the seminal music and dance venue. Richard Gere stars (Pretty Woman, Officer and a Gentleman), Gregory Hines, and Nicholas Cage.

Quiche

The Johnny Fontaine character represents Frank Sinatra; the fame level and the mob connection ❤️ I was 5 when this movie came out and my parents had no one to watch me so they took me to the movies with them to see this; my Mother must have sensed what was happening when the producer wakes up with his prized horse’s head in his bed because she covered my eyes 😂

Jacqueline Separovich

Thank you for reacting to The Godfather. It’s one of my all time favorite movies. Even though I’ve seen numerous times, I still cringe whenever Sonny dies. He was my favorite.

Cyndi

I don't talk about this much because it's kind of a weird chapter in my family's history, but, in my middle/high school years, my lawyer-father was approached by the local mafia family to represent them in a case; he handled it so well that this family kept him on retainer. For the following decade, Dad kept a gun in a drawer in his office (as did his secretary). The relationship brought money into the house - along with a large, well-trained guard dog and a lot of underlying nervousness for everyone, Nothing bad ever actually happened, and when the local "boss" died (just a heartattack, nothing dramatic), the ties were severed permanently. Not surprisingly, I guess, I find this movie and it's immediate sequal (The Godfather part 2) in equal parts fascinating and nerve wracking... in the end, though, they really are well-done movies, and I'm glad you're getting a chance to see them.

Rhonda Turner

Liked Godfather ll as well, both deservedly won best picture Oscars.

Jeffrey Edwards

Three is skippable. Or at least there's no rush to watch it imo. 1 and 2 are based on the original book by mario puzo and it makes sense to watch 2 after 1 while the details are still fresh.. Three was a screenplay written 3 decades later, and Puzo contributed to that, but the material isn't really that closely related.

CS

Great refresher for me. Been awhile since I last saw this one. More familiar with part 2. Must watch that one.

Dan Gershgol

100 percent you need to see G F 2 and 3. In my opinion G.F. 2 is the best one.

Raider Ron

I’m about to enjoy watching now. Already saying the second is the best one of three and I’m so curious how you’ll react to this epic movie. I think people either really love it or really hate it. If you love it, you should check into that series called The Offer. About how this film miraculously got made. It came so close to not getting made.

NatalieVegas1965

Please check out the second movie!!! The story continues not long after the move to Nevada. Love and appreciate you two!

Violet:D _

Yes please watch Godfather part 2 epic movies and yes Michael is way more ruthless than his father but is also the most suited to succeed his father.

Mike West

Y’all should watch the mini series called the offer it’s a show based on the guys making the godfather and them dealing with Joe gallo a mafia boss

3BeerThunder

So glad you did a reaction to this. Classic. Now you’ll catch Godfather references and jokes in other movies now. I always laugh when I see Sonny bite his hand after he sees Connie’s condition because I know a major ass whippin is coming. Best line; leave the gun, take the cannoli.

Pink Martini AZ

This movie and part 2 is one of my favorites of all time. It is definitely top 3 for me. I can’t count how many times I have watched it. It was nice to watch with you guys.

Russ

michael had a lot of experience as a marine in ww2, so he was not inexperienced in killing. He had a cooler head than Sonny and was more suited to be head of the family. Don Corleone said he had full faith in Michael and told his associates to obey Michael.

Gary Morse

I have seen this several times and finally the penny dropped with the Sicilian death of Micheals wife , his protector in Sicily will have been made an offer he couldn’t refuse when Sonny died and Don Corleoni was recovering , Botsenni , who had the Don shot , killed Sonni and had the bomb in the car planted , which was in the case the bodyguard put in the trunk , 30 years that took me and I still may not have it all in place .

mark barratt

This film has three scenes that are dawn near perfect examples of acting, the assassination in the restaurant with how Pacino is acting, Brandos acting in the funeral home when he uncovers Sonny is 🤌 top notch and the Baptism is, in my opinion, one of the best pieces of film in History.

Josh Priddle

Please react to Godfather Part 2! It's a fantastic sequel and is considered one of the best sequels of all time.

Monica W

Fun fact for you two. This movie was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. His sister is the character who played the godfathers daughter Connie. Also Francis is the uncle of actor Nicolas Cage. Francis also directed the movie Bram Stokers Dracula (1992) Also stars Keanu Reeves.🙂

MichelleMyBell

I am getting a message that because of its privacy settings, this video cannot be played here. I am using a browser on my PC. Edit: I figured it out. The video cannot play on Edge, but it plays on Chrome.

Ludwvin Martinez

If you guys didn’t know Michele was Al Pacino 😀. Great movie reaction 🔥

Dmontae Sims

I’m enjoying rewatching this movie with you all. There’s a lot I didn’t get the first time around. Marlon Brando talks as if he has marbles in his cheeks. I remember being horrified by the horse head scene. The comments from you movie buffs has really helped explain a lot, especially the bit about Sinatra. I love the way the movie tells it and doesn’t glorify it. The fact that Don Corleon was targeted because he wouldn’t get involved in the drug trade reminds me of the Sopranos. They mentioned one of the bosses who would not go down that path. Anyway, great reaction from Asia and BJ as always.

Cynthia M Farrington

Can you put The hunger Games in your next poll

Nicole Christie

I never understood why people were so hard on Godfather III. I enjoyed it so much and have seen it more times than the first one. Andy Garcia was absolutely perfect for his role. I always thought it had something to do with Carmella Soprano dissing Godfather III in the first season of Sopranos.

Christina Randall

Great reaction guys. I grew up in Montreal (city in Canada that is always mentioned in The Sopranos) and I've known my fair share of "family members". This movie is probably one of the most accurate representations of the mafia in its prime.

Benjamin

you gotta hafta do the 2nd once you have seen the 1st

Matt

Great reaction again you two. I grew up in Nj and I have seen and lived around that life. One of my best friend's family was in it somehow, I never asked or spoke about it and I just always knew lol. Yall might as well keep on going down those movies now lol.

Pop_Pop_Taq

Godfather 2 is not better or worse than part 1. The first and second parts belong together, in my opinion, and should be considered together. Thanks for watching.

ImOnlyBleeding

I think I saw in a documentary that Coppola had to keep shuffling him back into the casting over 3 times, before he could get the higher-ups to sign off. I want to say it was even 4 times.

Michael King

After you finish the sequels, or at least part 2, you guys should watch ‘Mafia!’. It’s a comedy that spoofs all the mob movies. And I think you’ve seen all the most applicable. Goodfellas and casino. And then the main storyline is a parody of The Godfather movies. Same people who did The Naked Gun, Hot Shots, Airplane!, Scary Movie (some of them), and High School High (which is a parody of all the inner city school movies like Dangerous Minds, Blackboard Jungle, High School Confidential, The Principal, Lean on Me, The Substitute, Stand and Deliver.)

Michael King

Definatly need to see Godfather 2. Its better than the original.

s8150f

Also, I seem to recall reading or hearing that the big shots didn't want Al Pacino to play Michael, but Francis Ford Coppola insisted. It was very early in Pacino's career.

Chryss Guiler

I think this is probably my favorite movie behind the collective Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Michael King

In 1998, the AFI's 100 Greatest American Movies of All Time has the top three in this order: Citizen Kane, Casablanca, The Godfather. In 2007, movies #2 and #3 switched places. The Godfather Part II is #32 in both lists. AFI now ranks movies in genres. Gangster films top three are The Godfather, Goodfellas, The Godfather Part II. https://www.afi.com/afis-10-top-10/

Chryss Guiler

Part 2 has flashbacks to when Don Vito Corleone (born Vito Andolini} was a boy in the town of Corleone, Sicily. It's fascinating to watch as Vito becomes the Godfather. Definitely recommend you watch it. Robert De Niro plays Vito as a young man.

Chryss Guiler

Yes, please do Godfather II :D

Monnisnah

Thank you for starting this awesome trilogy. Love these movies.

Peggi Parente Elshawarby

One of the best films of all time and now like everyone is mentioning, Godfather Part II should be next. Is equally good and some people like it better.

David Cansler

Super hype for Godfather II its just gonna expand on everything yall discussed after this one.

Paul Salvador Estrada

You guys nailed this one, It took me several viewings to catch everything you caught. If you enjoyed Part 1, definitely watch part 2 and 3. You don't have to react to them but I think you'll enjoy them. Everyone is hard on 3 but it does well to wrap the story. Also, once you finish them, go read trivia on IMDB or somewhere, there are a lot of things that you'll go "NO WAY!". For instance: James Caan improvised the part where he throws the FBI photographer's camera to the ground. The actor's frightened reaction is genuine. Caan also came up with the idea of throwing money at the man to make up for breaking his camera. As he put it, "Where I came from, you broke something, you replaced it or repaid the owner."

Jay McLaughlin

Me too!!!!

Monica F Vieyra-Sandgren

Johnny Fontaine with his band leader https://youtube.com/watch?v=OnF2BdX1MdI&feature=shareb

Jerry

There is no Mob. 😜😜😜😜😜😜

Jerry

Loved your reaction to this ❤️. Just an FYI. Paramount+ put out a ten part true story mini series last year about how the Godfather movie got made - that story is crazier than the Godfather and was a lot of fun to watch. I would be fun to see you react to that, maybe after STRANGER THINGS.

Jerry

Someone probably said this but the singer represented Sinatra and that story about his contract is supposed to be true. The movie story is true about him to From here to Eternity.

Mushman

Just So You Know I say Yes To Godfather 2.

Old Drill Sgt.

Some additional thoughts. The rival families hated Sonny with a passion, because he actually was a brutal and bloodthirsty commander in chief while he filled in for his father, certainly no less than Michael, and he was putting quite a serious hurting on the other families during the gang war. That's why his murder was so vicious and very personal. FUN FACT: The massacre of the heads of the other families that Michael carried out at the end of the movie was actually Sonny's idea, but he never got the chance to fulfil it. 2ND FUN FACT: The horse's head that the Hollywood producer found in his bed was REAL. They tried to use a fake one, but couldn't get it to look convincing, so they managed to acquire an actual horse's head from a slaughter house, and the actor in the bed had NO idea! His reaction was genuine. And I think you guys might have suggested the heavyset guy who kept visiting Michael in Sicily with news might have been in on the hit on Michael. He wasn't. His name was Don Tomassino, and he was very devoted to Michael's father from their early days together. The Corleone's enemies had their ways of getting information just like anyone else, and somehow they got to Michael's one bodyguard. The bomb was meant for him.

Michael Wise

Donnie Brasco is another great mob movie starring Al Pacino & Johnny Depp

Andre Anderson

This is from the book written by Mario Puzo. He co wrote the screen play with the director. The characters are base on people from Mario's youth in Hell's kitchen.

Larry Smith

Part 2 yes, part 3 no.

Veronica B

I'd probably watch a movie like this with the english subtitles on.

CS

Yes, please react to Part 2!

Freddie Miles

You have to see Godfather II now. :)

Christina Randall

Great movie and reaction watch the 2nd one for sure

James B.

Classic. One of the greatest movies ever; perhaps only surpassed by Godfather part II. Also, remember to react to GOTTI 1996. My favourite mob movie ever. So many actors you will recognize in it.

Bill William

I've only seen this movie once and I'm looking forward to watching it with you two! :)

Dana

Such a great reaction! It really is one of the best. I think you’ll really enjoy 2 as well. There are so many great stories from the making of this film…for example, the movie producer- they did not tell him there was going to be a real horse head in the bed so his scream and reaction was real!

Mary Merry Berry

Love this movie and the 2nd one! The 3rd one is ok but it does finish up the trilogy.. another great Al Pacino movie is Scarface, would love if y`all checked it out! Another Awesome reaction you guys!

Dee Lawson

Awesome! Love the reaction! :P By the way, Johnny Fontane, the singer who has all the girl over him that you see in the movie is technically based on Frank Sinatra. ;) Can't wait for Part 2!!

Hyperion

Seriously Asia & BJ. You guys are the best at the reaction game...hands down

Davey

Godfather 2 is a must see! A lot of people believe it's better than this one. I can't say, I loved them both. Great reaction you two. Loved it.

Debbie Sarti

Thank you and thank my boss I got off early today! Cannot wait to hop into this after I make dinner, Godfather, Dexter last 2 eps of the season and season start of Stranger Things. Gonna be an awesome night of watching much love to everyone. ✌❤ A&B fam!

Darth Brooks

If you have seen Rocky, Michael's sister is Adrian in Rocky. The actor that played Tom is Robert Duval, and he is in Gone In 60 Seconds, basically a GTA film with Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie & Shy McBride.

Kara Davis

I’ll add one more thing- you’ll notice the word mafia is never used in the movie. That was a deal struck with the mafia, so that they could make the movie. The mafia, particularly the Colombo family, had a major problem with this movie being made and they were holding up the production in NYC. They had to agree to not use that word and to allow mobsters on the set to watch over what was being put in the film.

React2Reactions

Thank you! I think we all probably hope you’ll do Part 2 ASAP, so this one is still fresh in your mind. If you enjoyed seeing how things were in the 40’s, you’re going to love what they show you in Part 2. FYI, these characters and names were fictional, but there are many scenes in both movies that were inspired by real events. An example is Mo Green, who was based on the Jewish mobster Bugsy Siegel. Siegel was the first one to go out and build a major resort in Vegas, bankrolled by the mafia. That hotel did become a money pit for the mob, and they suspected he wasn’t putting it all into the hotel, so they had him hit. Not in a barbers chair, that part was inspired by the killing of early mob boss Albert Anastasia!

React2Reactions

Also, the story Michael told about the band leader and the “offer he couldn’t refuse,” was inspired by Sinatra and Tommy Dorsey, as Frank was getting famous. Dorsey wouldn’t let him out of his contract with the band until a Jersey mobster went and stuck a gun in his mouth.

React2Reactions

Besides Godfather 2 another good mob movie to keep in mind is Irishman (2019) set in the 50’s directed by Martin Scorsese staring Robert De Niro & Joe Pesci

Andre Anderson

Michael having all of the family's enemies wiped out while he has his son baptized is the coldest move ever. Killer Mike had a bar about it "Your life could end like Godfather one, you get the gun while I christen my son"

Grushdeva

THANK YOU GUYS, for doing my all-time favorite movie! This is a masterpiece. I was wondering if/when you guys would recognize James Caan as Sonny, since you had already seen him in Misery and Thief, and it finally dawned on you. lol Yes, Carlo helped set Sonny up by deliberately beating up Connie that last time. Barzini bribed Carlo to do it, since he knew Carlo was on the outs with Sonny and the family. And they knew the route Sonny normally took into the city whenever he went to his sister's, so they had guys waiting to ambush him at the toll. Glad you guys picked up on that. Quite a transformation of Michael's character, huh? And his father's death was the only one that was natural causes in the entire film! The time frame that this movie is taking place in is over a 10 year period, from just after the end of WWII in 1945 to 1955. I could say so much more, but I'll refrain. BRAVO ASIA & BJ! It was an offer you guys couldn't refuse! I probably stand alone in this, but great as Godfather Part 2 is, THIS first one is the greatest film of all-time, in my humble opinion.

Michael Wise

All done with the reaction and i have to say YES you should watch GF2 to me it is the best film ever made. Its everything part 1 is and so much more. I really hope you enjoy these films like i do the acting and directing is amazing. Thank you so much what a great few hours it was watching with you both.

Rio Mendoza

part 2 is amazing, 3 is a stretch lol

Bobby Johnson

Yes

Rio Mendoza

Still my all time favorite movie…after Godfather 2 that is.

Tuoppi66

Excellent Reaction. Part 2 & 3 are even better

Awilda Luciano

GF2 is the best of the 3. It shows the depths that Michael will go keep the family in power.

Dan63

For me it's the GOAT of movies 🎬. Both my Mom and Dad read the book so watching the movie any time it's on was a family tradition, and don't even think about changing the channel because you would not only lose your remote privileges, you might also lose a finger or two for committing such a sacrilegious act. I believe Part 2 was a better, more expansive film, but The Godfather was overall the best with EVERYTHING including casting set design music costumes damn near perfection.

JL Green

Godfather part 1 is great but part 2 is the best!!!! But you do have to watch part 1 to understand part2 Also check out the making of the trilogy. It's amazing how the movie was almost not made...and there is alot of really interesting fact https://youtu.be/kz04-IwSK3Y

Christina Terwilliger

The first time i watched this im not gunna lie, i fell asleep. It's a LONG movie man lol

𝓙𝓸𝓼𝓱𝔂𝓦𝓪𝓷𝓽𝓦𝓲𝓷𝓰𝔂

Good movie. I'll be tuning in soon, can't wait to see what you guys thought

Renee S

These old directors were always fascinated with the mob, and since the mob was fronting most of the money, the movies romanticized mobster life. In between the lines and in reality, they were racist sociopaths who treated their wives like shit, and their mistresses even worse.

GQubed

Classic! Part 2 is even better.

Wayne Polk

Oh man, ive been waiting for this one!

Edgar Gonzalez

Lenny Montana who played Luca Brasi was bodyguard and enforcer for the Columbo family. The story line of Johnny Fontane, godson and singer was rumored to be the story of Frank Sinatra and his connections with the Mafia getting Sinatra the role of Maggio in From Here to Eternity, another classic to watch, no horse head though.

Monica F Vieyra-Sandgren

Very excited for this reaction. Thank you so much for this upload. I really hope you both love this film as much as I do. Thank you again you are the best. OMG im so excited.

Rio Mendoza

Its based on a book by Mario Puzo, there are similarities to real people from the Italian Mob but its a work of fiction

Eric Brown

I predict Asia & BJ are gonna LOVE this!!! Best movie ever!

Michael Wise

Some people say this is perhaps the best movie of all time. They are correct.

Jake Martin

Squeeeeee! Now I don't have to do laundry!!

Rose Dallman

Y’all just be spoiling us

SwO Beatz

I have never seen this movie from start to finish. Maybe this is the time.
