There's a real life conspiracy called the "Montauk Project" that happen in New York, that supposedly the CIA was testing on people for mind control. U can Google it. That's where they got the idea to make this show. Even the pic of the real building looks like Hawkins Lab

2023-07-11 21:52:01 +0000 UTCYep the crack in the wall is Eleven opening the gate to the parallel dimension (the upside down). The boys totally understood what the science teacher was explaining when he told them the acrobat and the flea theory. Eleven was changing the compasses directions so the boys wouldn't find out where the gate was because she knew exactly where it was and what was behind it and she was trying to keep them safe. So Lucas was right when he got angry with her and blamed her for making the compasses take them in a loop.

I also caught something for the first time. The building that Elle came from that Lucas was spying on didn't have any windows. The only time I have ever seen buildings like that are top secret research facilities (like DARPA locations).

How could she know her fear was strong enough to open a gate for it? IMO she wasn’t wrong for being afraid to go back, she wasn’t wrong to lead the boys in the wrong direction bc she knows they are no match for it. Every choice she has made was for self preservation & protecting these boys who keep calling her a freak & a weirdo

She did say that it was dangerous. When they asked her if she knew where the gate was she said no... But I felt like she knew, she just didnt want to tell them that she knew where it was... Nancy is a name used from Nightmare On Elm Street, Natalia Dyer(Nancy) just so happens to have the same coloring as Heather Langenkamp (Nancy in the movies). Nothing I've seen confirmed this but it's a bit close for my taste. Rambo was definitely a movie used here. There are also heavily used 80's stars used such as Winona and Matthew Modine (Papa) used in the show. If anyone notices movie nods I may have missed pop it in the comments, without spoiling please. I'm taking this one on an as we watch it together basis, no future events. Also, hurry up there's so much theory I want to chew on and I gotta wait for you to finish, lol. Who else is done watching and wants to chew on theory with me?? It's driving me NUTS, especially with the 5th season being late now.

The portal has much greater magnetic attraction relative to magnetic north, causing the compasses to malfunction and point toward the portal. That was the theory that Dustin came up with. In an effort to keep the group safe, Eleven used her powers to manipulate the compasses, directing the gang away from the portal. Eleven knows the portal to The Upside-down, and whatever lurks inside, is incredibly dangerous.
