Most of the Italian-American mobsters have families that all originated from the same few regions, Calabria, Sicily (they say stuff like "He's a Sigilian'" meaning someone from Sicily) or Napoli, as in the Sopranos themselves, making them Napolidan' (or nobbly dobbly as AJ put it) They are using Sicilian-American pronunciation that you hear sometimes in the Northeast. Cs become Gs, the overall pronunciation is bastardized and the final vowel is dropped: ricotta becomes rigot' ("I made you some rigot' pie"), capicola becomes gabagool, sfogliotella becomes shfuyadel, mozzarella becomes moozadell, etc

2023-05-01 21:32:57 +0000 UTCThe creator/head writer of the show wanted to make a series that was a slower pace than what was on network TV in the 90βs. Thatβs probably why you donβt see everything play out in each episode like youβre expecting. Two things- 1) Janice ainβt the βkinkyβ one! 2) I laughed when Asia mentioned not understanding Tony when he talks so fast because I always watched the show with subtitles on. Lol. In real life James Gandolfini spoke faster than Tony in general, but didnβt have that thick accent.
