TK 11 update

Quansheng reached out to me with an update regarding the TK11 and other upcoming developments. Unfortunately, they’ve decided not to move forward with the TK11 "Open" firmware project. Despite previously sending both encrypted and open MCU versions of the TK11 for potential firmware development, they’ve concluded — after discussions with their engineers and the MCU manufacturer — that the chip is too closed and difficult to work with. As a result, they’ve officially cancelled the TK11 open development project. They apologized for the time and effort many of us in the community have already invested.

On a more positive note, they also shared news about future plans. Due to MCU supply chain issues affecting the UV-K5, they are working on a new version of the UV-K5 with a different, more developer-friendly MCU. This new chip is expected to be easier to work with and will also be used in other upcoming Quansheng products. They’re hoping to engage with the community to support third-party firmware development on this new platform, ensuring long-term sustainability.

Stay tuned — while TK11 development is off the table, a new door may be opening with the next-gen UV-K5.
