I finally joined the Patreon fam (late to the party per usual)!!! Don't know what took me so long, but glad I pulled up. I'm playing catch up now, and thought I'd start with the movies series. Of course, I had to start with my favorite movie series.
We just moved out of the city and into the burbs and I was unpacking our boxes the other day and found the Lord of the Rings DVDs and I thought about the movie reaction y'all did. It's great to watch the full length reaction to this trilogy and I'm happy I tapped in. Sending love and positive vibes from my fam to yours!

Hey I'm down with you guys doing non-Breaking Bad universe stuff obviously. You gotta please all the people, but you guys GOTTA get to Better Call Saul at some point in the future. That show is so damn good. As I said I get it, it's not all about what I wanna watch, but at some point you guys gotta watch it. So good... I don't feel neglected don't worry. :) Happy to see LOTR also. Be well and keep on keeping on!

I have read the LoTR and I can definitely see where you are coming from. One of my favorite stories is The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but the original writing by Victor Hugo is such a slog. The abridged version is 10x better. And spoiler: The Disney version is nothing like the actual story. So much darker

I didn't read all the comments but most have great information. Some actors that you have seen in other moves. Legolas the elf played by Orlando Bloom, he was bootstraps son, the one they needed the blood to end the curse in Pirates of the Caribbean, Gandalf, played by Ian McKellan is also Magneto in the X Men, Boromir is Sean Bean who is also Ned Stark in GOT, Bilbo Baggins is played by Ian Holm who was the doctor/robot in Alien, remember his head getting knocked off?, he was also the priest in the Fifth Element. Just a few off the top of my head in some of the movies you have watched.

I've read 100's of fantasy fiction book - many longer than LOTR - but I never made it through LOTR as found it a bit tedious. Movies are good though, even if I get annoyed by teh Helmsdeep battle. No castle in history would be designed so badly to allow towers or ladders so easy access. Simple trench or moat fixes that issue. Common trope though in fantasy books/movies/TV.

So the son of Theoden (King of Rohan) was mortally wounded in bed and eventually died (that's where the burial scene came from). Eomer was the one banished for having questioned that whole situation, and that's why Gandalf later left to go find him and his crew, which is why they had all that backup in the end. I could tell you two weren't sure if they were the same guy or not, but they were definitely two different characters.
This is no mere Ranger.

To answer one of your first questions, prior to starting the movie..."The Two Towers" refers to #1. The Tower of Barad-Dûr, which lies in Mordor, and is Sauron's tower. The flaming eye on top is the embodiment of Sauron. Without the ring, he can't regain his bodily form (as Saruman alluded to in the previous movie.)
Tower #2 is the Tower of Orthanc, which is Saruman's tower in Isengard, where he and Gandalf had the wizard fight in the first movie. These towers hold the antagonists of the movie - Saruman creating armies to aid Sauron in attempting to take over Middle-Earth.
A major behind the scene event happens when Aragorn kicks the uruk helmet off the hill at 44:23 - that was his third take, and Peter Jackson was trying to get him to kick it in a certain direction. Viggo Mortensen broke his toe kicking the helmet on that last take, and he used the pain and turned it into a powerful scream and falling to his knees, to feel the loss of Merry and Pippin at that moment. I'm wondering how many others will mention this, but I know I will 😎
Treebeard is an Ent, they manage the trees in the forest. He is voiced by the same actor who plays the Dwarf Gimli, John Rhys-Davies (the same actor who played Sallah in Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark.)
When Gandalf the White reintroduces himself, the audio unit mixed Christopher Lee's voice (Saruman) with Ian McKellen's voice (Gandalf) together to sound somewhat like Saruman, so the audience might think it really was Saruman before the big reveal.
The scene where the tree tries to eat Merry and Pippin is similar to a scene in the book. There's a character in the book, not seen in any of these movies, named Tom Bombadil. His lines of "You should not be waking...eat earth, dig deep..." were given to Treebeard to say. This is one of the extended scenes not in the original theatrical cut.
At 1:23:57, when y'all are talking about the king's son Théodred - He was found on the battlefield by his cousin Éomer (The horsemaster who spoke with Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas), who is brother to Éowyn (the woman Grima Wormtongue was creeping on.) Notice the common "éo" in all of their names (the king is Théoden) - éo actually MEANS "horse" in Old English, which is probably why Rohan is "home of the horse lords," and all their houses and swords have horses on them.
You also see the royal flag at the Golden Hall of Meduseld rip off the pole - that wasn't planned. It was EXTREMELY windy up on that hill - Mount Sunday in New Zealand. The name Meduseld in Old English / Anglo Saxon means "Mead-Hall", and was based on the Mead hall Heorot in the story of Beowulf.
During Théodred's funeral procession, his cousin Éowyn sings in some sort of Old English / Anglo Saxon language. You can hear "On Meduselde" at the end. (Tolkien loved languages, and created all of the languages of Elves and Dwarves in LoTR.)
At 2:13:05, when Saruman's army is revealed, the audio people had recorded a rugby stadium full of people screaming certain phrases. What you hear the armies chanting came from those recordings.
Those kids you see at 2:57:50 are Peter Jackson's kids again. You saw them before at the beginning of the first movie, where they were Hobbit children, and Bilbo was telling them about his adventures with the Trolls.
Speaking of Peter Jackson, you can see his cameo in this movie at 3:04:47. He's one of the soldiers who hurls a spear out of the castle.
The reason they made Frodo get Gollum from the forbidden pool was a plot device of the movie - up to that point, the Smeagol side was winning, but Gollum had to come back eventually. So Faramir made Frodo lie to Gollum so he could be questioned. That turned Gollum evil again, and the bit at the end when Faramir grabbed him and threw him just added on, and made Gollum the dominant personality again.
As Asia said there at the end, "Things are about to get bad." Let's say very big changes are on the way, you'll see it even at the beginning of the last movie. Gandalf was right too: "The battle for Helm's Deep is over...the Battle for Middle Earth is about to begin."
One final reminder to watch the credits for the major actors at the end of the final movie, Return of The King. Annie Lennox sings the song "Into The West", which is absolutely amazing, and the artwork is incredible.
Love following your reaction to these amazing movies, can't wait for the final chapter 😁😁😁
This will be the end of "The Lord of the Rings", but Peter Jackson came back and did a trilogy for the original book (Bilbo's adventures) called "The Hobbit".

How are they so confused by this movie??? They appear to be paying attention, so are they just not understanding the language?! They don't seem to understand who anyone is, how they're related, where they are, where they're going, or what's happening at any given time. I'm genuinely baffled.

2023-03-10 05:27:39 +0000 UTC
Eisendorf. I think that's a few miles south of Isengard. It's a small hamlet dedicated to doing Saruman's laundry. It's the white robes. He needs several changes each day to keep up his image. I'm not going to get into Helm's Folly. It's a silly place.

Theoden talking about no parent should have to bury a child makes me cry every single time I see this movie. Particularly now that I am a parent myself. And then I cry again at Sam’s monologue at the end - especially the bit about wondering how there can be a happy ending when so much bad has happened. Of the three movies, this one really hits me in the feels in a more realistic way than the other two because the problems nagging at the main characters are ones I relate to the most in real life.
And BJ calling the fell beast (dragon) a pterodactyl was just *chef’s kiss.* A+ reaction that was worth the 3.5 hours. Thanks for making my night.

Can’t believe no one has said it so I will…….. when Aragorn kicked the helmet he actually broke his toe..😂😂(funny cuz it’s the piece of trivia that every lotr fan knows about this movie & usually comments on these reactions) but as always loved the journey, you’ll get there with all the names & locations, there’s 3 fully separate storylines in this one that can get a bit overwhelming but it seemed like you guys got the important stuff & the rest is in the comments here! btw - the Elves (Liv Tyler) are leaving the world (Middlearth) that's why they weren't at the battle. They fought sauron once and decided not to do it twice. They feel like the age of Elves is over and that they would be better off in the 'Blessed Realm' which is basically heaven.

''No parent should bury their child.''
That is one of the most hard hitting lines of the series. You can understand why Lord Elrond made Arwen leave to save his child.
I enjoyed your reaction to the first Asia and BJ. Now? This has edged in front! This is how you do a sequel and? I've said it a million times. Sean Astin (Sam) Was robbed of an Oscar. He, if anyone deserved it for his speech at the end alone. Some said this was too soon for you guys, I'm glad I disagreed, you've caught things brilliantly, and its clear you've enjoyed it too! Loved it - absolutely loved it! The Yoda comment creased me!
The battle at Helms deep took three months of nights to finish. So much work was put into it. Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli work off each other so well, they really are warriors, Aragorn was definitely though born to lead.
I'm so pleased to go on this movie journey on here, with you over the last four months-ish. So worth it! You've both come such a long way, and its only just beginning. Don't stress about certain things - it'll all become clearer in the 3rd one.

I think Aragon let Grima go because he saw that he had been manipulated by Saruman just as much as Theoden had been, just not by magic, but words. Aragorn is VERY intuitive, He saw this and pitied him because there is no way to revert the effect like they could with Theoden. Of course a mistake but everyone makes mistake, at least his are born out of sympathy or compassion.

To answer your questions at the end about where everyone is located, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and Gandalf are in Helm's Deep having just won the siege battle. We don't know yet where they're headed to next, but Gandalf does mention essentially that there's going to be a lot more fighting to be done before the story is over. Pippin and Merry are with Treebeard (the ent they were riding) at Isengard, which is Saruman's base of operations that they just destroyed. We also don't know where they could be headed to next, for now they are taking a well deserved break. Frodo, Sam and Gollum/Smeagol are still trying to get into Mordor, which is Sauron's base of operations (and his armies have not been touched yet by our heroes), via some secret passage Gollum knows about. As far as we know, Arwen (the elf lady in the dreams Aragon had) is preparing to leave Middle Earth with most of the elves. Some elves decided to stay behind in Middle Earth and help fight at Helm's Deep but not all of them.
As for your questions about the different Rohan characters, there were 4 major ones. The king is named Theoden, his son Theodred was the one who was wounded at the beginning and died. Theoden also had a niece and a nephew; Eowyn (the blond woman who has a crush on Aragorn) and Eomer, the guy who was banished for "warmongering" while Theoden was still enthralled by Saruman. He is the guy who shows up at the end with all the cavalry to save the king with Gandalf.
